Planning for a meaningful summer?

It might seem far away, but the summer vacation is actually just around the cor-

ner. Do you have any plans for the summer yet? We strongly suggest that you do

something meaningful with your summer break, not simply sit around the house

watching TV or go out with friends. How you spend your summer can influence your admission to college. While summer activities will not compensate for medi-ocre grades and poor test scores, careful planning can tip the scales in your fa-

vor.

Some very useful things to do during summer could be:

Take a SAT preparation course Volunteer and do service

Read some inspiring books If you are travelling, take the opportunity to visit art galleries, museums, etc. Join a pre-college program such as Summer Discovery with five campuses in

the US and Cambridge in England, or Summer Study at Penn State and Sum-

mer Study in Paris (Follow the links below for more information).

 You should ask yourself:

What kind of summer experiences do I want? Do I want an educational environment, or a social one, or a combination? Do I want to get a taste of college life? In what country do I want to be? How much money is available?

Use the links on the following page to explore some great summer experiences.

IB World Student Conferences (IB WSC)

Join the excitement of the IB World Student Conferences (IB WSC) in 2013! All four IB university hosts are eagerly anticipating the arrival of hundreds of IB Students on campus come June, July, and August! This communication is to answer your questions :

 Why should students attend?

Attendance at an IB World Student Conference can support students in many stages of their IB ca-reer :

Ease transition to the Diploma Programme (DP) or IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC). For stu-dents entering the IB for the first time, or for those continuing to DP from the Middle Years Pro-gramme, the IB WSC can be an excellent opportunity to gain familiarity with the pace and approachof the DP. It is also an opportunity for new students to gain momentum and confidence about theirupcoming year of study

Gain hours in Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Project. Students work in global action teams to ad- vance their CAS and to collaboratively expand the scope and effectiveness of their projects.

Meet IB peers worldwide. Gain experience in thinking globally and working with peers from placesculturally, linguistically, and geographically different from their own communities. It's an early ex-perience of expansion for most teens.

 Who is eligible to attend?

Students currently in their first year of the DP, or those planning to enter the DP during 2013 areeligible to attend any IB WSC.For more about individual conference themes and general conference information, visit www.ibo.org/wsc
