NITV Spirit Initiative - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the initiative about?
The NITV Spirit initiative - it used to be called the “NITV Spirit Award”- has evolved into a practical work
placement with NITV. It is offered for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person that is
working within the film and television industry from remote or regional areas in Australia.
You travel to Sydney and work with NITV staff in different areas being mentored with practical
experience in broadcasting.
What will I be doing?
You will spend time rotating with different NITV departments and learn relevant skills
in the below areas:
• Commissions
• NITV News department
• Promos/editing team
• Internal productions, which has some live OB opportunities
• Online/Digital team
• Living Black Radio (SBS) tbc
Do I need to work away from my home?
Yes, you will be based in Sydney for up to 3 weeks. As part of the initiative you will travel to Melbourne
with the Commissions team to attend the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) and
possibly other additional travel if the opportunity arises.
How will the initiative be covered?
All travel and accommodation will be covered by NITV, including any travel and accommodation outside
Sydney. NITV will pay you a stipend for being away from your normal activities as well as travel
allowance.
How do I apply and when do the applications open and close?
Applications open 1 August, 2016 and close 31 August, 2016. Announcements to be made at the Remote
Indigenous Media Festival, Yirrkala (Sept, 2016)
You will need to complete the application form. We need to know who you are, where you are from and
how to contact you. You need to be working or associated with an Indigenous Remote Media hub, the
