Level switches, based on the conductivity principle, can beapplied to liquids with conductivity higher than 10 µS/cm. Fordetecting the level, probes are immersed into the tank. Theseprobes (and the conductive tank wall) serve as contacts of anelectric circuit. Instruments can be equipped with maximum 4 probes and an additional reference probe for cases of non-conductive tank wall. Their length should be in accordancewith the level to be detected. The liquid in the tank changes theelectrical conductivity between the tank wall (or the referenceprobe) and probes. The established connection will beconverted to an output signal. If the tank wall is conductive itcan be used as a reference probe, otherwise a separatereference probe must be used.
