Using the 0.3mm depth cutter (828-022),place a horizontal facial depth cut fromproximal line angle to proximal line angle.Make this depth cut at the junction of thecervical and middle one-third of the facialsurface of the tooth.*

Using the 0.5mm depth cutter (828-026),place two additional horizontal depth cutsfrom proximal line angle to proximal lineangle. Make one depth cut in the middle ofthe facial surface and the other depth cut2mm to 3mm from the incisal edge.* * 1

Paralleling the entire gingival margin, prepare a definitive chamfer finish linewith the 850-014 medium grit diamondbur in enamel.

Continue the definitive chamfer finish linewith the 850-014 diamond bur from thepapilla tip toward the incisal edge on boththe mesial and distal proximal surfaces. This definitive proximal chamfer finish lineshould be placed just labial (0.2mm) to thecontact zone, and then directed lingually inthe area of the incisal embrasure.

The facial depth cuts are removed withthe 850-014 diamond bur, and the longaxis of the diamond bur is rolled intothe proximal chamfer area to eliminateany sharp line angles.

If incisal coverage with porcelain or resin isplanned the incisal table may be reduced withthe 828-030 depth cutter. The angle of the faceof the depth cutter is slightly downwardtoward the facial (from horizontal) to providesome occlusal resistance to shear forces. Thiscut creates a definite finish line at the junctionof the incisal and lingual surfaces.

The facial and incisal preparationscreate a sharp line angle at the junctionof these two surfaces. This sharp angleshould be rounded off with the 8392-016fine diamond bur (30 micron grit) or the850-014 diamond bur to reduce stressconcentration in the veneer restoration.

Once gross finishing of the cementedveneer has been accomplished withhand instruments, discs, and strips, finefinishing of any porcelain excess at themargin is initiated with the ET6EFdiamond bur (15 micron grit). The buris used at moderate speed with a watercoolant utilizing a light touch.

    * For severely stained teeth, use the 0.5mm depth cutter (828-026) to make this depth cut.* * For severely stained teeth, use the 0.7mm depth cutter (828-030) to make this depth cut.

To renew the porcelain glaze, the ET6UF 30fluted carbide bur is utilized at high speed, dry with a feather touch.2 The porcelain glazeis further enhanced with Truluster porcelainpolishing paste: order no. 203-9300.

Remove any gross resin cement excess or porcelainexcess with the football shaped 8368-023 fine diamond bur(30 micron grit) along the linguo-incisal margin. Smooththis area further with the 368EF-023 (15 micron grit)diamond bur. Renew the glaze with the ET6UF-30 flutedcarbide bur and Truluster porcelain polishing paste.

The appearance of the mandibularanterior teeth prior to porcelainveneering for matching the color of themaxillary porcelain veneers. The toothpreparation presented applies to Class Iocclusions without destructiveparafunctional habit patterns.

At the junction of the incisal one-thirdand the middle one-third of the toothcrown, place horizontal depth cuts withthe 0.3mm depth cutter (828-022) fromthe mesial proximal line angle to thedistal proximal line angle.

Cutting parallel to the existing facialsurface, use the 855-014 medium gritdiamond bur to remove a uniform0.3mm of the facial surface, from theincisal edge to the bottom of the0.3mm depth cut.

If the tooth makes contact in centricclosure, this cut will eliminate toothcontact. This facial cut is combinedwith the incisal cut in Step #7 toprovide incisal space for the porcelain.

Create initial incisal clearance, asdescribed in Step #3 for all mandibularanterior teeth.

Using the 0.3mm depth cutter (828-022),place two incisal depth cuts from thelinguo-incisal line angle to the facio-incisalline angle. These two depth cuts are placedinto the incisal table approximately onethird of the incisal distance from eachproximal wall.

An incisal view of the mandibular anteriorteeth reveals incisal clearance of 1mm orslightly more for all teeth, as verified by ameasuring device. In a normal occlusion, this should meet the requirements forresistance to fracture in an etchedporcelain system.

Using the 0.3mm depth cutter (828-022)place a horizontal facial depth cut frommesial proximal line angle to distalproximal line angle, midway betweenthe reduced incisal edge and thecemento-enamel junction. Make thiscut for all mandibular anterior teeth.

Beginning slightly incisal to thecemento-enamel junction (to remainin enamel), use the 850-014 diamondbur to prepare a moderate chamferfinish line that produces a smooth arcto the mesial and distal papilla tip.

These depth cuts are now removedwith the flat end of the 828-022 depthcutter on a 30 to 45 angle toward thefacial. The angle will result in theremoval of more tooth structure in thefacial portion of the incisal table, which is the zone of centric contact.

The result of the facial cut (Step #3)and the incisal cut (Step #7) shouldproduce a clearance at the facio-incisalline angle of from 0.75mm to 1.0mm. If more clearance is desirable, reducethe incisal table further, from lingual to facial, with the 828-022 at a 30 to 45 angle.

Repeat the angled reduction of theincisal table for the remainingmandibular anterior teeth, until thedesired clearance is obtained for allteeth. From 1mm to 1.25mm at thefacio-incisal line angle is usuallyacceptable. Avoid excessive incisalreduction to prevent extensiveexposure of the dentin of the tooth.

Extend the chamfer finish line with the850-014 diamond bur directly towardthe prepared incisal edge. Be sure toremain slightly facial to the proximalcontacts to simplify reading the finishline and removing resin cement duringveneer placement.

Using the 850-014 diamond bur, carefully remove the 0.3mm depth cutand delicately merge the facialreduction with the proximal chamferfinish lines. Proceed to prepare theremaining mandibular anterior teethas outlined in Steps #12-14.
