I. Introduction
Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences is a State‐wide University as declared by the
Presidential Order, 1974. The admissions to the course shall be regulated as per AP
Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission) Order, 1974 as issued in G.O.P.No. 646,
dated 10‐7‐1979 of Education (W) Department, Government of A.P. and as amended from
time to time.
II. Notification Applications are invited from eligible candidates of Andhra Pradesh for admission
into the B.Sc.(Nursing) course for the year 2013.
III. Number of seats, duration of course and entry qualification required:

Should have secured not less than 45% of marks on the average in the subjects of Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry and English taken together and qualify in EAMCET‐2013 to apply. EAMCET ranking will be considered for admission.
5 Seats are reserved for regular in‐service candidates working in NIMS.
IV. AGE The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years completed on or before 31st
December, 2013 and should not be more than 25 years as on 31st December, 2013 . Upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years in the case of SC & ST Candidates.
V. Statutory Reservations for SCs, STs, & BCs a) Rule of reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward class
candidates i.e. 15%, 6% and 29% (BC‐A 7%, BC‐B 10%, BC‐C 1%, BC‐D 7%, BC‐E
4%) respectively will be followed by taking the total number of seats.
b) There shall be 3% reservation for differently‐abled (Physically Handicapped‐PH)
with locomotor diasability of 50% to 70% confined to lower limbs. The
candidates shall be selected on horizontal basis among general and reserved

categories. In case of temporarily disabled persons, the PH certificate should be
issued within 3 months prior to presenting her application for seeking admission
by claiming the benefit of reservation, by the Medical Board Vide G.O.Ms.No.109
Women’s Development Child Welfare and Labour Department dated 15‐06‐1992.
The Medical Board constituted by the NIMS will examine these candidates and
scrutinize their claim for reservation under PH for confirmation of eligibility.
c) BC‐E reservation: There shall be 4% reservation under BC‐E as per memo
No.19392/A2/2007 dated 29‐11‐2007. The BC‐E certificate based on
G.O.Ms.No.23, Backward Classes Welfare (C2), dated 7th July, 2007 should be
obtained from Mandal Revenue Officer/Tahsildar on or after 7th July, 2007.
Admission under BC‐E category is subject to condition of further orders issued
either by the Government of Andhra Pradesh or Hon’ble High Court of Andhra
Pradesh.
NOTE:
i. The seats reserved for scheduled Tribes shall be made available to Scheduled
Castes and Vice‐versa, if qualified candidates are not available in the
category.
If qualified candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled
Tribes
Communities are not available the left over seats reserved for them shall
be treated as un‐reserved seats and shall be filled by the qualified
candidates of General Pool.
ii. If qualified candidates belonging to backward class of a particular group are
not available, the leftover seats shall be adjusted for the candidates of
next group.
If qualified candidates belonging to backward classes are not available to
fill up the seats reserved for them, the left over seats shall be treated as
unreserved and shall be filled up with qualified candidates of General
pool.
iii. If qualified candidates belonging to differently abled (physically handicapped)
are not available, the leftover seat/seats shall be treated as unreserved
and shall be filled up with qualified candidates of General pool.
VI. Local Area Reservations

1. The local area reservations are made as per the procedure described in the annexure
IV of the GOP No.646 dated 10th July, 1979 and may be seen at website:
www.nims.edu.in. The following allocations are accordingly made for the three
regions of State of Andhra Pradesh.
a. Andhra University (AU) : 42%
b. Osmania University (OU) : 36% and
c. Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) : 22%
2. The definition of local and non‐local status and a detailed description of
local/non local candidates in relation to a university area may be seen in
Annexure III of the prospectus.

VII. Application Procedure:
1. Application form is available at www.nims.edu.in
2. A candidate must submit hard copy of the application form.
3. The Application Form may be downloaded and filled appropriately. Please note that
all the columns in the application form require to be filled in. Incomplete application
forms are liable to be rejected.
4. The filled in application form will have to be printed, signed, attest a latest passport
size photograph and sent to Associate Dean, Aptitude Testing, 2nd floor, Old OPD
Block, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad 500 082 on or before 5.00
PM of 16‐07‐2013 along a) all the documents mentioned in the annexure I and b) a
demand draft/NIMS cash receipt (see para 5 below).
5. Enclose demand draft for Rs.700/‐ (Rupees seven hundred only) drawn in favour of
the Director, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences or NIMS cash receipt dated
between 27‐06‐2013to 16‐07‐2013 will have to be submitted simultaneously along
with the filled‐in application. The candidate must write his/her name and the course
applied for on the back side of the Bank Draft/NIMS cash receipt. Application fee is
non‐refundable even if the application is summarily rejected.

6. The filled in applications received after the prescribed date and time shall not be
considered. The Institute will not be responsible for non‐receipt of applications or
delay in postal transit.
7. An acknowledgement along with Registration Number will be sent to the respective
candidate by Email after the Application is processed.
8. The applications of in‐service candidates should be forwarded by the appointing
authority. The in‐service candidates are required to submit Service Certificate and
No Objection Certificate in original from the Appointing Authority at the time of
submission of application.
VIII. Method of Selection:
1. Among the applications received, the applicants will be ranked based on the Rank
obtained in EAMCET‐2013. In case of a tie, percentage of marks obtained in Zoology,
Botany, Chemistry and Physics in the Intermediate or its equivalent examination
shall be taken into account in the serial order of the subjects mentioned to decide
the relative ranking. On further tie, age shall be taken into consideration, the
candidate elder in age being given priority.
2. The in‐service candidates should have a minimum of five years regular service.
3. The merit list of the eligible candidates will be displayed at NIMS website: www.nims.edu.in and notice board on the dates notified in prospectus. No individual correspondence will be made in this regard.
4. The counselling letters will be sent to the candidates through their e‐mail or will be
issued in person.
5. The selection shall be based on the merit taking into consideration the Rank
obtained in EAMCET‐2013. The statutory reservation rules and GOP No. 646 dated
10th July, 1979 for local area reservations will be followed during counselling.
Candidates have to report for counselling in person with a counselling fee of
Rs.25,000/‐ (Rupees twenty five thousand only). No request for postponing the
date of counselling or request to appear at an earlier date shall be entertained. In
case, a candidate fails to report for counselling at the date and time specified, she
forfeits the right to admission and the seat shall be offered to the next candidate in
the merit list. The candidates recommended for provisional admission are
required to pay an amount of Rs.25, 000/‐ (Rupees twenty five thousand only)
towards counselling fee immediately. This amount will be adjusted against the
admission fee to be paid along with the balance of fee to be collected at the time of
admission. The counselling fee will be refunded only for those categories of
candidates for whom tuition fee is waived. In case the candidate does not, for any

reason, report for admission before the specified date, the counselling fee will be
forfeited.
6. The candidates belongs to SC/ST whose parents/guardian income is less than
Rs.1,00,000/‐ (Rupees one lakh only) per annum are not required to pay non‐
refundable (tuition) fee at the time of admission. However, the candidate is required
to submit an undertaking/bond (non‐judicial stamped paper of Rs.100/‐) as per
format prescribed at Annexure V that they shall pay the prescribed fee for their
respective courses before completion of each year (I/II/III and IV years), if they fails
to get sanction of scholarship from the respective government departments. The fee
towards other heads amounting to Rs.6,300/‐ (Rupees six thousand and three
hundred only) except tuition fee shall be paid at the time of counselling. It is
mandatory to submit “either of parents/guardian” income certificate in original for
academic year 2013 issued by not below the rank of Tahsildar/Mandal Revenue
Officer at the time of counselling.
7. For in‐service candidates who are pursuing studies and who cannot deposit the
original certificates at the time of admission have to bring Xerox copies of the
original certificates duly attested by the controlling authorities of the institution.
They shall also produce a certificate from the institution that they have no objection
to the candidate’s admission to the B.Sc. (Nursing) course and in the event of
selection of the candidate to the course she shall be relieved immediately. Failure to
submit the above certificates shall render the candidate ineligible for admission.
IX. Admission: 1. All those candidates who are selected for admission have to pay the fee as specified
below and submit the original certificates on the date and time specified. Failure to submit the required certificates or pay the fee shall render the candidate forfeit the seat and such seat shall be allotted to the next candidate in the merit list.

3. Total fee to be paid during the subsequent years at the beginning of classes i.e.2nd
year, 3rdyear and 4th year is Rs.34,800/‐ each year. Hostellers are required to pay Rs.5,000/‐ per year as hostel fee (excluding mess charges).
i. The fee once paid is not refundable under any circumstance.
ii. All the in‐service candidates, who are selected for admission, are also required to pay the above fee.
4. In all matters relating to selections and admissions, the decision of the Institute shall be final and binding on the candidates and selection cannot be questioned after admissions are closed.
5. All the candidates joining the course shall execute a bond in the prescribed form on a
non‐judicial stamped paper of Rs.100/‐ value along with two sureties not below the
rank of Gazetted Officer to ensure completion of the prescribed period of course or
in default to pay the bond amount and shall also have to refund the amount if any
received as stipend up to that date to NIMS. The format of the bond to be executed
may be seen in Annexure II. The candidates who resign the course under this
clause shall not be considered for any other course on the basis of merit during the
same academic year. The course imparted prior to resignation shall not be counted
for any other purposes. In the case of in‐service candidates they have to execute
a bond to satisfy the study leave rules of NIMS.
6. The original certificates submitted by the candidates shall not be returned to the
candidates till they complete their course of study and appear for the final
examination or on fulfilling condition (5) above.
7. The selection of each student will be subject to medical fitness. The medical fitness will be decided by the Medical Board appointed by the Institute. The decision of the Medical Board shall be final.
8. All candidates who are employees in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Central
Government under takings, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities
and other similar quasi‐public Institutions should submit their applications along
with No Objection Certificate from the appointing authority. The selected
candidates should submit relieving order along with original certificates at the
time of admission.
9. No individual correspondence will be made for selection/admission. Candidates are
requested to follow the instructions/information stated in prospectus and at
website: www.nims.edu.in as per the scheduled programme mentioned in
prospectus.

X After Admission
1. The student shall maintain strict discipline during the period of study/training
programme in terms of conduct rules of the NIMS. Violation of the conduct rules will
result in the cancellation of the admission of the candidate apart from invoking the
terms and conditions of the bond. The candidate shall not resort to any strikes
during period of their study in dereliction of their duties or air their views criticizing
the policies of the institute either before the print or electronic media or anywhere.
2. All students shall adhere to the institutional rules and violation of rules will be viewed seriously.
3. The selected candidates shall join the course by the date prescribed. In case the selected candidate does not report by the date, the next candidate in the order of merit will be selected in her place. No extension of time will be entertained.
4. The admission stands closed by the date announced and the courses shall commence from the notified date. Due to unforeseen reasons if a seat falls vacant within the period of closure of admissions, the candidate next in order of merit as per rules will be considered for admission.
5. Institute reserves the right to change the schedule after due notification.
6. The candidate shall not register for any other Degree / Diploma and continue the studies, unless specifically permitted by the Institute.
7. All selected candidates must maintain a logbook recording their day to day academic activities, which are to be submitted to the Dean, through proper channel once in six months.
8. The institute shall fix duties and responsibilities of students from time to time. They will be required to pursue such works as may be needed in the legitimate interest of patient care in the hospital.
9. The course is a full time course. The candidate shall be a full time student. No student is allowed to do any private practice or consultation. “all the candidates joining the course shall work as ‘full time students’ during the period of training and shall attend not less than 80% (eighty percent) of the imparted training during each academic year including assignments, assessed full time responsibilities and participation in all facets of the educational process.
10. Candidates found to be ineligible at any stage of the course will not be permitted to appear in the final examination. In an unlikely event of any ineligible candidate appearing and/or being successful in the examination, the results of such a candidate shall be cancelled and/or deemed to be cancelled.

11. Resultant vacancies shall be filled by the candidates belonging to the same
category as those who vacated the corresponding seat.
12. Institute is not responsible for any unforeseen events preventing the candidate from reaching for counselling and the candidate will be considered absent under such circumstances.
13. Any attempt on the part of the candidate to influence directly or indirectly by any means will be treated as disqualification.
XI Closure of admission The admissions stand closed by the prescribed date and the courses shall commence
from the notified date. Due to unforeseen reasons if a seat falls vacant within the
period of closure of admissions as per INC rules, the candidate next in order of merit as
per rules will be considered for admission i.e. on or before 30‐09‐2013.
XII. Uniform
Student Nurses shall wear white uniform while on duty as prescribed by the Institute.
XIII. Stipend
1. The selected candidates will be paid stipend as per the following rates (the rates of stipend shall however be as prescribed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time):
1st year Rs.1,500/‐ per month 2nd year Rs.1,700/‐ per month 3rd year Rs.1,900/‐ per month 4th year Rs.2,200/‐ per month
2. Candidates sponsored by the Government of A.P. will not be paid stipend. 3. The candidates must complete the final examination within a period of 8 years from the date of admission to the course, failing which the candidate will be required to re‐register for course after getting herself selected for the course. XIV Boarding & Lodging
Hostel accommodation will be provided by the institute on payment as detailed in clause IX (3). Day scholars are not allowed for any nursing programme. Only one or two students on the discretion of Principal will be allowed.

XV. Vacation and Leave 1. All students are eligible for 6 ‐ 8 weeks of vacation including preparatory holidays and they are also eligible for public holidays. The candidates are eligible for sick leave for 14 days as recommended by the Medical Officer of the Institute. 2. The candidates shall undergo extra training for the period covered by the absence and continue the training until the next examination. 3. Candidates availing Maternity Leave, shall undergo extra training to the extent of period covered by the absence before they are permitted to take the examination. 4. If a candidate is absent for more than 30 days without sanction of leave, she shall be treated as deemed to have discontinued and the bond amount shall be recovered. XVI. Discontinuation of the course
Candidates are permitted to discontinue the course under the following
condition without any penalty.
i) Illness certified by the Medical Board of the institute.
XVII Examinations:
i) The candidates will have to appear for such examinations as are prescribed
by the institute from time to time.
ii) The candidate to appear for final year examination is required to clear all the
previous examinations.
XVIII. Termination of training and dismissal
A candidate admitted to the course shall be liable for dismissal at any time before
the completion of the course on account of negligence, failure to complete the
prescribed studies and duties, insubordination, misconduct or any other offences
amounting to moral turpitude on the part of the candidate which in the opinion of
the Head of the institute makes it undesirable to continue the candidate in the
institute.
XIX. Powers of Dean:
Notwithstanding anything contained in these rules, the Dean NIMS may at any time
before completion of the course either on his own motion or on the application of

any person after due and proper enquiry and after giving the person two weeks’ time
from the date of receipt of the show cause notice to submit a written explanation
and on personal hearing, order the cancellation of admission to the course, if in his
opinion such candidate had furnished incorrect particulars / false information in the
application or in the documents attached thereto or in the statement made either
before the authority in‐charge of admission or the Dean or any other manner.
Against any such order of the Dean, the appeal shall lie with the Director, Nizam’s
Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.
XX. These rules are subject to change in accordance with the decisions of the Institute taken from time to time.
Note: Anti Ragging Act ‐ Ragging is prohibited in the Educational Institutions in the State of Andhra Pradesh vide Act.No.26 of 1997, dated 21‐08‐1997. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel her from the Institution.

(Non judicial Stamped paper Rs.100/‐) Let it be known to all that I _____________________________ D/o___________ R/o_______________________________________________________________ Hereafter called the student of B.Sc.(Nursing) course in NIMS and (1) Sri__________________________ S/o________________________________ R/o_________________________________________________________________ (2) Sri___________________________ S/o________________________________ R/o_________________________________________________________________ Hereinafter called the sureties bind ourselves to the NIMS, Hyderabad hereinafter, called the Director, NIMS for an amount of Rs.25, 000/‐ (Rupees Twenty five thousand only) or for which payment we bind ourselves and each of us, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally, on this day of 2013 NOW THIS BOND OF SECURITY WITNSSES AS FOLLOWING THAT: 1. The student and surety have agreed jointly and severally to refund by repayment of the entire amount if any received by the student from the NIMS during the period of Nursing course in the case if the student desires to leave the NIMS without completing the four year course and thereby wasting a seat in the course depriving another qualified and deserving student. 2. The student and sureties have also agreed to pay an amount of Rs. 25,000/‐ in addition to amounts if any received in case of discontinuation of study of the nursing course. 3. It is open to the NIMS to seek to realise the amount thus falls due under any of the terms referred to herein either from the student or from the sureties. Accordingly to this discretion as expediency and continuance warrants and the student or surety shall not request the NIMS to proceed against any one of them before claiming against the other. It is also agreed to be open to the NIMS to realise the amount from both of them subject to the limit indicated in terms of this bond. 4. In case of any delay in repayment of the amounts if any received or other consolidated amount if any, it is open to the NIMS to recover the same with interest @ 18% p.a. after expiry of two months from the day the amount has fallen due.
Now this bond has been executed with the condition if the said student discharges her obligations under this bond the above written bond shall stand discharged or otherwise it shall have full force for taking action against the persons executing the bond.

Annexure – III DEFINITION OF LOCAL / NON‐LOCAL STATUS
1. A Candidate shall be regarded as a local candidate in relation to a local area (AU/OU/SVU) 1.1. If he/she has studied in an Educational Institution or Educational Institutions
in such local area for a period of not less than four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or first appeared in the relevant qualifying examination as the case may be.
1.2. Where, during the whole or any part of the four consecutive academic years
in which he/she appeared, or first appeared in the relevant qualifying examination, he/she has not studied in any educational institutions, if he/she resided in that local area for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date of commencement of the relevant qualifying examination in which he/she appeared, or first appeared, as the case may be.
2. A candidate who is not regarded as local candidate under clause (1.1) above in
relation to any local area shall 2.1. If he/she studied in the educational institutions in the state for a period of
not less than seven academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination as the case may be, be regarded as a local candidate in relation to.
i. Such local area where he/she studied for the maximum period out of period of seven years.
OR ii. Where the period of his/her study in two or more local areas is equal, such local area where he/she studied last in such equal periods.
2.2. If during the whole or any part of the seven consecutive academic years
ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or first appeared for the
relevant qualifying examination, he/she has not studied in the educational
institutions, in any local area, but has resided in the state during the whole of the
said period of seven years, be regarded as a local candidate in relation to.
i. Such local area where he/she has resided for the maximum period out of the said period of seven years.
OR ii. Where the period of his/her residence in two or more local areas is equal such

local area where he/she had resided last in such periods.
Note: Local area in respect of Andhra Pradesh (A.U area) includes Nagarjuna University area In respect of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU area), it includes Sri Krishnadevaraya University area, in respect of Osmania University (OU area), it includes Kakatiya University area. 3. Candidates coming under any of the categories given below and not satisfying the conditions mentioned in 1 or 2 above are treated as Non‐Local to all the three University areas specified above.
a. Candidates who have resided in the State* for a total period of 10 years excluding the periods of study outside the State; or either of whose parents have resided in the State for a total period of ten years excluding periods of employment outside the State;

b. Candidates who are children of parents who are in the employment of this State or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities and other similar quasi‐Public Institutions within the State**;

b. Candidates who are spouses of those employment of this State or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities and educational institutions recognized by the Government a University or other competent authority and similar other quasi‐Government institutions within the State**;

ten (10) years issued by MRO/Tahsildar as per format prescribed in GOP 646 dated 10th July, 1979. (Applicable for those who have not studied in any institution during the whole or any part of seven consecutive academic years in Andhra Pradesh immediately preceding the qualifying examination).
5. Social Status Certificate in the prescribed format as applicable. (Candidates belongs BC‐E category and claiming against reservation seat, please note that the certificate issued by the MRO/Tahsildar should be dated on or after 7th July, 2007.)

Child Welfare and Labour Department dated 15‐06‐1992. The Medical Board
constituted by the NIMS will examine these candidates and scrutinize their claim
for reservation under PH for confirmation of eligibility.

2. It is open to the NIMS to seek to realise the amount thus falls due under any of the
terms referred to herein either from the student or from the sureties. Accordingly to
this discretion as expediency and continuance warrants and the student or surety
shall not request the NIMS to proceed against any one of them before claiming
against the other. It is also agreed to be open to the NIMS to realize the amount
from both of them subject to the limit indicated in terms of this bond.

3. In case of any delay in repayment of the amounts if any received or other
consolidated amount if any, it is open to the NIMS to recover the same with interest
@ 18% p.a. after expiry of two months from the day the amount has fallen due.
