Position Opening: Research Project Coordinator The New Jersey Sustainable State Institute (NJSSI) seeks a fulltime Researcher and Project Coordinator. The position implements and oversees sustainability projects in partnership with external clients, coordinates the activities of the project team, and conducts data collection, analysis, and research to assist with the creation of reports, presentations, and other research deliverables. The position will also be responsible as a point of contact with stakeholders and participants for projects and will participate in meetings with community stakeholders. The position will work in a team environment with both professional staff and graduate students . Excellent interpersonal and project management skills are necessary. The position will have numerous projects and must be able to multitask and prioritze tasks to meet deadlines. The position requires a bachelors in public policy, urban studies, planning, economics, environmental studies, or a related field. Experience in social science, planning, and/or public policy research is also required. A masters degree, and professional experience with sustainble development, public policy, and evaluation research is preferred. About The New Jersey Sustainable State Institute Located at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, NJSSI is a mission oriented research and planning organization (A Think and Do Tank) that works with government, public interest groups, business leaders, scientists, and citizens from all walks of life, to answer the question: ʺWhere are we, and where do we need to be, in order to preserve our quality of life and achieve sustainable development?ʺ Being a missiondriven organization, NJSSI initiates projects based on how well they will serve the purpose of developing models and best practices that will lead to sustainable development. At the local level, NJSSI is working with a number of communities to develop new models and implement sustainable community plans. With each community we are creating comprehensive strategic plans for sustainable development that set goals for the future, use indicators to track progress, and develop action plans that have roles for local government, citizens, businesses, schools, and civic organizations. Each plan is created as part of a public dialogue that incorporates local desires for the future, and an understanding of the impact every community has on regional and global sustainability issues such as urban sprawl and global warming. We look for projects that can be examples for others, or help us develop and test best practices. 

At the state and national levels, NJSSI convenes public dialogues to understand and bring political consensus on the levels of performance that must be achieved to be on a sustainable course, sets quantitative targets for sustainable development, and develops best practices for advancing new polices and planning models.  

Compensation and Benefits The salary range is $43,149 ‐ $64,789 depending on experience. The position includes a full benefits package including comprehensive health care, paid vacation, and a retirement plan.
