BAKER CHAPl'ER NEWS

The Prexy, Masao Kigawa , wasnit there at the last Baker Chapter meeting . May 8, Friday night. Neither vas the Vicepresident , Alan Ta1llura . So , while waiting patiently for a presiding officer to appear-= Bakarites took to their favorite inioor past - time. Yes you guessed , so I donit have to elaborate ! Is Baker Chapter going to the Dogs? No officers to lead them.

Since the time was racing rapidly toward 8:00 PM, ' exprexy, Dick Oguro. decided to con-vrene the meeting. He p:trmit ted one last hand before breaking up the two gams that had started.

Since there was no minutes to be read nor Prexy's reports to be submitted, the meeting-the business portion, that i8, ended rapidly e~ough.

Approved were: 1) Appropriation for the coming picnic in July at Kazuo Yamane' 8 Ewe. Beach House. And 2) The -family night affair for the 25th of May.

Due to the lack of fish expected around August , the contemplated, FISHING DERBY, may not c ale off thi s ye ar.

Lots of questions regarding .3aker's job at the coming Luau were thrown at Liaison Chief, Gonsei Nakamura-some pointed questions. But as usual, be received all the Kokua at the end. Even those of you who were not at the meeting! We do need all the kokua we can get!

I rai sed at the beginning whether Baker was ePi.ng to the. LogSj approximately 30 members V'Jere present even without the edded inducements that we some-times have. A few long-timeD,O see fellas present were: Sakae Takahashi and Jessie Hirata. -The latter still solicitiDg business, so that he can make his first MILLION. You can't take it with you, Jess!

For the short time that we have been in eXistencc, since September of last year, the OJ nSGnsus of opinion is that we are doing okay .

----000-----If awards could be given,

I'd like to suGGest one for r'Rookie" fmnager of the year. Alrl, my choice would be by pre-, ference, Hajime Kodama, youthful first year captain for our mill Bruce:::- 14" softball team!

He y:i,loted the Bakeri tes to the 1st round championship--5 wins and no losses.

However, combinations of Circumstances, (call it alibiS, if you so desire) prevented him from piloting his team to the 2nd round honors and the league championship itself which has eluded Baker Chapter nigh five years?

But it takes at least 3 years for any new manager to whip up a team to championship cali bre • Perhaps you can d 0 it in two, Haj i! Nothing like trying, boy!

Certainly missed Jimmy Kawashima for the championship g~e!

CHANGE OF JOBS: It has been re ported that Uki Wozumi, one of our good bowlers as well as a good softballer is now a mail~ m~ with Uncle Sam-~at the Honolulu Post Office.

But of a sad note--seems he is destined for the night shift--meaning that he will be lost for bowling for some time to come. But, good luck to you in your new job! Family comes first--you gotta eat!
