NM6153 - Principles and Practice of Infection Prevention Faculty of Health and Social Care and Control 20 credits Level 6 Module Aims: To enable the practitioner to evaluate his/her own and others’ contributions to the principles and practice of infection prevention and control, to ensure that people who use health and social care services receive safe and effective care. To enable the practitioner to take a critical and analytical perspective when assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care, therapeutic intervention and service responses to meeting the needs of the person with infection prevention and control issues, and of their family. Module Outcomes (summary) Critically evaluate the inter-professional strategies for the prevention, detection, control and management of infection in the clinical and working environment. Critically apply a wide range of evidence-based practice from anatomy, physiology, patho-physiology, aetiology, microbiology, epidemiology, pharmacology, immunology and pathology in the management of infection prevention and control. Analyse the different mode of transmission of pathogenic micro-organisms, and its implication in the prevention and control of infection. Critically examine the roles and responsibilities of the infection control teams, the Care Quality Commission, and their link to local, national and international agencies in the prevention, monitoring, surveillance, control and management of infection prevention and control issues. Critically analyse health promotion and structured education strategies in the prevention and control of infection. Critically reflect on local, national and international policies, trends, and drivers that may influence and shape the infection prevention and control agenda.
