In 2012 NME celebrated its 60 th anniversary by releasing a set of 8 collector’s edition issues with some of the biggest music stars on the front including Liam and Noel Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys, Paul Weller, The Killers, Manic Street Preachers, Patti Smith and Sid Viscous.

This is one of the most famous NME covers. Due to the high fame of Britpop in 1995 Blur and Oasis were battling it out at the top of the charts an in August NME had a main feature on the two bands to big up the hype.

Oasis have appeared on the most NME cover having appeared on the cover 55 times. Noel has also has been on the cover 15 times on his own and Liam appearing 11 times.

NME have had none musicians on the front cover before. Most recently The Inbetweeners cast (13/10/10), Simon Cowell (26/12/09), and the Little Britain cast (5/11/05)

Since 1974 at the end of every year NME would vote on what they think the best album and track of the year is. Winners of these include Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The Stone Roses.
