The ampere ’s blowing in the wind

Nottingham's international airport is looking to theskies for a fresh way to power the site from nexty e a r. East Midlands Airport will become the firstUK Airport to use wind turbines to generate 10%of its energ y. The four proposed wind turbines area step towards making airport site operationscarbon neutral by 2012. It's hoped the turbines,

each over 31 metres high, will be up and ru n n i n gby spring next year. The move follows other ecom e a s u res by the airport, such as increasing thep ro p o rtion of its energy that comes fro mrenewable sources to 20%.

Brief encounter?

The spotlight could shine onto the next ShaneMeadows, with the launch of a 24-hour filmchallenge in Nottingham. Nottingham-basedBritFilms TV and national cinema chain Cineworld

have thrown down the challenge for budding film-makers to c reate a three-minute film in just 24h o u r s . The films can be about anything and willhave to feature a prop provided on the day ine v e ry scene, to ensure no filming has been donein advance. The challenge will start at midday onSunday November 3rd, with registration essentialto take part, and shortlisted films will be scre e n e dat Nottingham's Cineworld at the Corn e rh o u s e .Winning films will also be shown on BBC BigS c reens around the country. Club crashes onto Nottingham scene

G a t e c r a s h e r, one of the most re v e red andcelebrated clubbing brands in the UK, is to openits Gatecrasher Loves Nottingham club after a£1.5m refit of the Elite Buildings venue on QueenS t reet. The new-look club launches onSeptember 15th, with three levels, three clubsand eight bars to explore and a lavish design that

makes the most of the original features of theGrade Two listed building but introduces moderntwists. It joins Gatecrashers in Leeds andS h e ffield and opens ahead of an expansion of theGatecrasher empire into other cities around thec o u n t ry. Hehas had a limited number printed in diff e re n tcolours and featuring the names of diff e rent part sof the city - and already they are proving popular.Paul is donating 10% of profits made from the£8.99 t-shirts to Mothers Against Crime and HyaLevel, groups which provide activities andmentoring for young people and look after families who have been affected by crime.

The show saw 11 people cut out anexistence on a rubbish dump - a far cry from the3 0 - y e a r-old's swish city apartment. But it hasmade Jermaine think more about enviro n m e n t a lissues, so not entirely a waste of time.
