B· . E it enacted by the Governor of Trinidad and rrobago with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council

thereof as follows :-It shall be lawful for the Registrar-General as Registrar

of Marriages to file and preserve in his office duplicate state-ments of the marriages the particulars whereof are set forth in Schedules I and II hereto, notwithstanding that such dupli-cate statements were not prepared in accordance with and transmitted at the time prescribed by Section 24 of the Ordinance No. 11-1863, intituled "An Ordinance to amend the law with regard to the solemnization and registration of ma1'l'iages," and such duplicate statements shall be deemed and taken to be good a,nd valid to all intents and purposes

as if they had been prepared in manner and form and trans-mitted to the Registrar of Marriages at the time prescribed by the said Section.

STATEMENT OF OBJEOTS AND REASONS.

The Parish Priest of Mayaro, Fl'. Dulmnton, not knowing the law, omitted to comply with the pJ'oyisions of 0eetioll 24: of OrdinancE' 11 of 1863, which enacts that after eyur}' mal'l'iag(' the officiating minister shall furthwith transmit to the Hegistrar a duplicat,·, sigIlJ·tl hy hims,·lf and by tIl(' parties to the malTingr. 0[' the eutry in tIl(' regist,;]'.

Copies of the entries of tIll; llllll'l'iages rell·bratec1 by Fl'. Du hanton haye now been sent up, hut they arc not Bigm·d hy the parties as provided by Sectiull 24- and were not f()l·wartl,·(] at the propcr time. Undcr these circllmstances tlHl Registrar-General finds hilIlS(;]f u11able to register these marriages without an thority.

The object of this Bill therefore is to nuthorize the Hegistral'-General to file these ilTeguhlr dnplicate copies in the samp ll1anner as he would have done had they heen properly pr('J)al'E'(] and tran8111ittrtl.
