The following items supplement, change, delete or add to the Construction Documents as though repeated in full therein. All general conditions, special conditions, etc., as originally specified shall apply to these items.
ITEM NO. 1 DRAWINGS
1) General Clarification:a. Partition Types 4 and 6 are intended to address the repair/finishing of walls
affected by the demolition of wall tile. The design intent is to remove existing bathroom wall tile as noted on plans. At CMU walls, tile will be removed, and the block prepared to receive a laminated layer of GWB, or where noted, GWB on furring channels, (this typically occurs on walls where we are providing power) At stud walls, the wall tile and substrate shall be removed, and new GWB installed on existing studs. The drawings reflect these conditions as we believe they occur, but due to the uncertainties of existing construction, some of these conditions may need to be determined and coordinated in the field during construction.
2) The following drawings have been revised to better clarify the previous statement:a. AD102b. AD104c. A102d. A104e. A501
3) A406: DOOR AND FINISH SCHEDULES - VCT and Rubber Cove base have been noted as “by owner”.

ITEM NO. 2 QUESTIONS FROM BIDDERS
1) What type of Water and Drain lines are acceptable. Right now just a general spec appears to say Cast Iron and Copper. Just want to confirm this is what is speced on this job?
a. Response: Please refer to specifications
2) The fire alarm plans do not show locations available for fire alarm booster panels. Booster panels contain the control equipment (amplifiers, power supplies and required batteries) to provide power for strobes, speakers, optical smoke detectors and air sampling detectors. Please clarify available locations for this equipment. As a minimum, there will most likely be four of these cabinets needed, two on each floor. For load distribution purposes they should be located at each end or side of the building. Based on equipment layout, the end of the building is preferred.
a. Response: Locations for booster panels have not yet been determined. They will be coordinated with the university and finalized during the shop drawing phase.
3) Will the fire alarm equipment be supplied with power from an emergency generator circuit?
a. Response: There is no emergency generator serving Randall Hall.
4) Based on our previous experience with military mass notification projects, can an acoustical consultant be omitted from the requirements in the fire alarm specification. On previous projects we were held to a criteria of 0.7 (point seven) utilizing the STI scale. This project requires just 0.5 (point five) Additionally, it should be noted the responsibility of an acceptable system is on the fire alarm/emergency voice system supplier by specification.
a. Response: The acoustician's evaluation is needed as part of the shop drawing submittal.
5) Please clarify item 4 of section H Projected Beam Smoke Detection AND Item 7 of section I Aspirating Type Smoke Detection. Nuisance alarms have been defined by some as alarms caused by no fault of the device or the installer. Is it the intent that we provide a factory trained technician at no charge for issues caused by others?
a. Response: Nuisance tripping needs to be investigated by the contractor by any means necessary during the warranty period. This may include a factory technician's visit where the cause of the nuisance tripping cannot be determined expediently by the contractor's staff. Trouble conditions due to lack of maintenance (i.e. replacement of sampling air filters) or detector beam blockages are not considered nuisance tripping.
6) May the duct smoke detectors be removed from the project. This request is based on the appearance all areas serviced by the air handling units have 100% coverage by area smoke detection. Under this request, we are not asking for the removal of the requirement to shut down all air handling units upon the activation of any building fire alarm.
a. Response: The duct smoke detectors may not be removed per the ruling of the NC SCO.

7) I am inquiring if we can use the Viega ProPress method for joining the copper tubing in lieu of soldered joints. We have used this in dozens of projects as well as on the UNCW campus with 100% success and zero leaks. It simply has become a better method than the old school method of soldering and the several mitigating factors that affect it.
a. Response: Yes, this is acceptable.
8) I do not see where the bid date and time are mentioned, however, in the prebid it was stated Nov 8th at 2:00 is that correct?
a. Response: Page NTB 1: First Paragraph. “Sealed proposals will be received by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in Wilmington, North Carolina, Project Management Department, in the Facilities Administration Building, Conference Room #2, up to 2:00 PM on Wednesday November 8, 2017.”
9) The plans say Carpet tile by Owner but does not state that the VCT and rubber base are by Owner.
a. Response: Carpet, VCT, and rubber wall base are all by owner.
10) Ceramic tile by GC? a. Response: Yes.
11) It was mentioned in the prebid but do not see anywhere that it states bonds required?
a. Response: This is a formal project. A bid deposit/bond is required as well as Payment and Performance Bonds.
