BUNNINGS BBQ AND CAKE STALL The annual Bunnings BBQ and Cake stall was held on Saturday 7th September, and despite the wind and rain the day was a great success. As always the BBQ was conducted in great spirits, and the sausages & drinks provided valuable nutrition to the hordes of Bunnings patrons, tradies, Dads on lunch duty, and hungover punters who needed a pick me up. Our cake stall was a sight to behold. So many wonderful, yummy creations to indulge in. Thank you to everyone who volunteered or donated goods, with a particularly big thank you to:

Lisa Curran for helping to organise the BBQ. The Curran’s family business All West Bin Hire for kindly donating all of the condiments. Baker’s Delight Altona for generously donating all of the bread.

The net profit made was $1,797.20 (BBQ) and $895 (Cake Stall), which will go towards purchasing further resources for the kids, although our suggestion would be for a Ted Whitten-style brass statue of our outgoing principal for his amazing service to our school! Special mention also goes to one of our Grade 1’s, Miles Derham, who’s personality & upselling skills helped to make this our most successful BBQ yet.

Thanks again & congratulations to all involved for making it a great day. Jarrod and Katrina (P & F) STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: On Thursday the 12th of September, 10 of our school leaders attended a Grade Six Leadership Conference at Our Lady's in Sunshine. The theme of the conference was "Fly high and let your leadership soar". Children were able to hear from guest speaker former homicide detective, Charlie Bezzina; author and western suburbs native, Alice Pung; as well as motivational speaker Mike Rolls, all of who spoke of respect, reputation, resilience and perseverance. In the afternoon, the Year 6 students from Our Lady's had organised a Leadership Expo where they demonstrated how leaders acted as active citizens and how a democratic process was used to create, manage and organise all of the things required to develop and run a leadership conference like this one. Our students were highly engaged and inspired by those speaking and were able to give the following feedback upon return: “I thought the day was really fun and I learnt a lot from it. A key message from today was not everything in life goes to plan.” Keiana C “It was good that they didn’t get celebrities but people that had interesting things to share but were not that well known because smaller people can rise up to do great things and that’s what they all talked about.” Jesse S “Charlie Bezzina told us a lesson in life is “If it’s to be, it’s up to me” which means to me that if something is going to happen, good or bad, I am going to be the one to sort it out or it is because of me that it happens.” Isabella Mi “Charlie Bezzina taught me that if you respect others and show respect, then you will gain respect and others will show you respect.” Zed D “The 3 keywords that stuck out to me from what Charlie Bezzina spoke to us about were reputation, team-work and experience and the main word from Mike Rolls speech was resilience.” Ava D “Charlie Bezzina’s speech to us was all about building our reputation and how that followed us through our lives. Mike Rolls spoke to us all about resilience.” Eliza P “I thought all of the 3 guest speakers were really inspiring and we learnt something from each of them. A quote I took down from Alice Pung was “Keep your head down, study hard and be successful.” Isabella Me

“I was inspired by how many stories all of the speakers knew and by the motivation they gave us, in Charlie Bezzina’s words “Take every opportunity that comes to you.” Summer L “Mike Rolls was the most inspirational speaker I heard, especially to all people who have a disability. We heard from Alice Pung who told us how difficult it was for her growing up in the ’80s as an Asian in Braybrook and how she loves to fight racism. Charlie Bezzina had a story that we all enjoyed, he loves to show respect and be respected. His favourite word of his speech was reputation.” Caitlyn G “Today was educational as well as inspirational, the different personalities they chose to speak on the day made the experience better, it was humorous while being a good presentation and as I said I think educational while being inspirational really sums up the day.” Thomas P

EDUCATION IN FAITH

Social Justice Week We just wanted to

thank all the students,

parents, families &

friends as well as staff

who attended our Year

5/6 Social Justice

stalls on: Tuesday 10th

Sept,

Wednesday 11th Sept

They were a great success and would not have been

so without the support of the families of our senior

students especially, along with the organisation and

talents of our Year 5 and 6 students. At first count, we had raised $2,365.75 for the St

Vincent de Paul Society who we are confident will

use it to benefit those most in need of our care and

concern in the local community.

On behalf of Noah & Grace Social Justice Leaders

This weekend’s Gospel

Luke 15: 1–32
