Class Groupings 2017
This is the time of year when schools are busy starting to plan for the following school year. I will be working
with teachers over the coming weeks to look at the most appropriate grade structures and sizes for our
anticipated enrolments and predicted staffing budget for 2017.
When students are allocated to classes, teachers will take into consideration a number of factors including
academic progress, strengths and needs, social and emotional factors, prior teachers, siblings and class
groupings. All decisions will be made with the best possible interests of each student. Whilst I will not fulfil
direct request for parents wanting particular teachers, I will be asking that if you have any educational, social
or emotional considerations that you would like considered when placing students in a class group, that you
please complete the reply slip on the back page of this newsletter and return it to the school office by Friday
25th November.
Tennis
I wish to thank Chris Millidonis for providing a fantastic Tennis program to students from P-6 throughout the
past few weeks. Funding through the Sporting Schools initiative made it possible to book Chris for 27
sessions (3 sessions for each class). Chris did an amazing job in teaching the skills through a variety of
engaging games and activities. The school also has some new Tennis “Hot Shots” equipment, also purchased
through the Sporting Schools grant, that will enable classes to continue to deliver more tennis activities
throughout their PE programs at different times of the year.
Thank You.

Step back in time with 1/2A
This term we have been learning about the past. We have compared old and new
technology, learnt about entertainment and communications in the ‘olden days’ and
cooked some yummy old fashioned food! Last Friday we went to Coal Creek His-
torical Park and had a great day experiencing bush cooking, school in 1901 and
a trip to the General Store.
The produce from the General
Store was a hit!
My favourite part of the excursion to
Coal Creek was the general store
which was also called a lolly shop. I
also have another favourite part
which is when we with Mrs Phillips
climbed up the steep hill and we did
bush cooking. First we washed our
then we made scones but I didn't like
them. I also had another favourite
part which was when we had to put
our bags on the train because the
train looked like a Harry Potter
train.. By Caine

Friday was the greatest day of my
life. The bank was my favourite but
it might not have been yours.
The old books might be fun. I would
like to live in the olden days. I liked
looking in the mines. It was lots of
fun at Coal Creek. I would like to go
to Coal Creek again. By Lachie
On the cool, amazing. Exciting awe-
some Friday we wnet to Coal Creek.
When we got there we put white sun-
screen on. We first went to the wood-
en train carriages then we went to an
old lady who was making soft wool
into hard wool. We spilt up into two
groups and I went to the shop and
bought a wooden train whistle. We
went to the first house that was built
there and made scones. I did not like
them… By Mitchell
On Friday we had the best excursion ever. We went to Coal Creek. It was
awesome!
Firstly we got on the gigantic bus. On the way we saw lots of hills. By
the way, I sat next to Amy. It was a long drive to Coal Creek.
When we got there we put our bags on the old train then we went fore a
little walk. After our walk we went to school. Mr Dickens taught us how
they wrote in the olden days. It was hard.
At the general store we were allowed to buy stuff. I bought a big lollypop,
a little loolypop and a jar of loolies. The jar of lollys was calles tiny tots.
After we went to the general storewe wnt to bush cooking. At bush cook-
ing we made damper scones. They were scrumptious. Do you want to
know how to make damper scones? It’s just water and flour.
I think all excursions should be as that amazing excursion. I loved it!

The Coal Mine was
really interesting. We
could feel the cold air
coming from it!

On Monday the 9th of November, 24
students from Drouin South Primary School
entered in the T20 Blast School Cup at Buln
Buln. We entered a girls team and two boys
teams who represented our school with
pride and dignity on the day.
The girls team demonstrated excellent
manners, respect and inclusiveness for the
entire day and Belinda King was incredibly
impressed with the attitude of this team.
The player we borrowed from another team
was made to feel most welcome at all times.
The girls won one match, lost two and drew
one match. Similar comments were made by
Glenys Pentland who supervised one of the
boy’s team. William Comber and Jackson Williames did an excellent job with
organising this team on the day, making sure all was in order! They were
competitive in all four matches, breaking through for a well-deserved win
against Drouin in a close contest.
The Drouin South A team were victorious in all of their three scheduled
matches and more importantly displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout
the day. One particular moment really stands out in my mind when two Drouin
South students offered to field for the opposition without any prompting. In
the final we came up against the rampaging Longwarry who had also been on the
favourable side of three one sided matches.
Christopher Diston (Drouin South captain) won the toss and sent Longwarry in to bat. We were very
measly in the field and backed up by some very tidy bowling, restricted Longwarry to 111. Drouin
South never really looked in danger with the bat and coasted over the line with 180 runs.
All three teams can be proud of their efforts on the day and the manner in which they conducted
themselves. A big thank you to Belinda King (transport and scorer), Jenny Eacott (transport) Glenys
Pentland (scorer) and Marisa Brown
(photographer, running errands and support).
Drouin South A have progressed to the Regional
level and will compete at Traralgon West
Sporting Complex next Tuesday (15th of Novem-
ber).
