We donʼt NEED any cuts to Calderdale and Huddersfield A&E departments. Calderdale A&E is doing fine by its patients. The Emergency Care Intensive Support Team has just reported positively on Calderdale and Huddersfield A&E departments.

We donʼt WANT to travel extra miles for accident and emergency care, when lives are at risk and transport costs are sky high.

This isnʼt just about closing Calderdale A&E.

THE PROPOSALS ARE ABOUT NHS CUTS AND DISMANTLING HOSPITAL SERVICES IN CALDERDALE AND GREATER HUDDERSFIELD

Hospital services across the board will be reduced. Patients will have to pick up the slack, in a new model of community health and social care services that will “support” people “to take maximum responsibility for their own care and wellbeing”. (The quotes are from an official letter in answer to questions we have raised. Do the officials think we donʼt already take responsibility? Or are their words code for “people will have to put up with cuts to primary health and social care?”)

These community based services would be run by the areaʼs two NHS trusts and Locala (a company that provides community health care in Kirklees), together with GPs and social care and voluntary organisations.

STEALTH NHS PRIVATISATION LEADS TO SECRECY & LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY

This plan has been cooked up by three local NHS organisations that operate as businesses and take decisions without any democratic control and accountability.

STEALTH NHS PRIVATISATION LEADS TO SECRECY & LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY

As businesses in the rapidly-privatising NHS, Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), Locala (a spin off from NHS Kirklees Primary Care Trust) and South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (the mental health trust) havenʼt had to tell our MPs what plans they were hatching - not even when Linda Riordan MP called a debate in the House of Commons and asked for information from the Secretary of State for Health.

The public and our local Councillors still havenʼt seen the Report thatʼs the basis for the proposals. Councillors have only heard an outline presentation of the Strategic Outline Case. This document contains full information about the plans for reducing our hospital services and replacing them with community services. They havenʼt seen that either.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS WHY WE SAY,

NO A&E CUTS IN CALDERDALE AND HUDDERSFIELD

What can you do now to stop the cuts?
