Planning Process Identify Concerns: Our school district has 44.4% of the student body who are receiving free or reduced lunch. Having this in our district brings concern for helping those who are less fortunate and may not receive healthy meals every day. Some ideas to raise money for support of No Kid Hungry-Share Our Strength are to collect pop tabs and cans or host a chili supper before a basketball game.

Page 3: No Kid Hungry

SET A GOAL: We will collect 100 lbs. of cans and tabs in one week to cash in for a donation to No Kid Hungry to end childhood hunger.

FORM A PLAN:Who:The Delphos Jefferson Middle/High School students and the community. What: FCCLA members will create posters, write announcements and articles for the Delphos Herald to request the school and community collection of cans and tabs for one week.

Page 4: No Kid Hungry

Where: The Delphos Jefferson Middle/High School cafeteria and the Delphos businesses.

When: January 13-17, 2014

Why: We feel kids that are starving should have an equal chance at a reliable food source. We will cash in pop tabs and cans for money to end the childhood hunger.

Page 5: No Kid Hungry

How: We will create signs for school, a picture and article for the Delphos Herald to inform the community, and visit area businesses to ask them to collect for one week. Announcements will be made daily. Cans and tabs will be collected and weighed daily to announce the leaders. A picture and article will be sent to the Delphos Herald after the cans and tabs are cashed in at Kohart Recycling in Delphos. Thank you cards will be written to businesses who collected for us. The money will be deposited to the school treasurer and a check will be sent to No Kid Hungry-Share Our Strength.

ACT: Signs displayed, announcements given daily, and businesses were contacted and collections were made. Since the grade competition started slow due to weather and delays, we extended the contest to January 24. Cans and tabs cashed in, money deposited. Check will be sent when processed by treasurer.

Page 7: No Kid Hungry

FOLLOW-UP: We collected 129.2 lbs. at school. The 8th grade won and will receive a cookie and juice next week as a prize. The community and businesses collected 161.9 lbs. If we were to do this again, we would collect all year and cash in every quarter of the school year. We would also hang statistics around the school and businesses for more awareness. School delays and cancellations made it difficult to complete all the hunger awareness activities we had hoped to accomplish.

Our community has been hit hard economically by loss of businesses, increased water and utility expenses therefore creating great burdens for families. With 44.4% of our students being on free or reduced lunches in our district, we want to find a way to stop hunger and contribute to

No Kid Hungry without asking for money.
