Each student from kindergarten through 8 grade will receive three new books, and our high school students take home ACT prep guides. National Volunteer Week:Gratitude Groove!

 

 Horizons for Youth is proud to have the best volunteers in Chicago!This National Volunteer Week, we thank our mentors, tutors, andYoung Professionals Board members--all of whom generouslydedicate their time and effort year-round to change the lives of ourstudents. As a small token of our appreciation, we celebrated these incredibleindividuals at our April Monthly Enrichment Outing: GratitudeGroove! A professional DJ got the crowd on its feet asour volunteers, students, and families enjoyed an evening ofdancing, games, food, and laughter. Thank you again to all of ourwonderful volunteers! National Volunteer Week is the perfect time to get started if you oranyone you know is interested in volunteering in any capacity atHorizons for Youth! To get involved, email our volunteer coordinatorBrian Broccolo today! [email protected]____________________________________________________

WATCH! Horizons for Youth Takes Over

'Shoot the Puck'! It seems that wherever you look, Horizons for Youth students aretaking part in something cool! A recent example being theimmensely popular "Shoot the Puck" contest at a ChicagoBlackhawks game.  Horizons for Youth 6th-grade student Ezekiel fulfilled the dreams ofcountless Chicagoans when he took to the United Center ice inbetween periods of the April 2nd Hawks game. Apparently he is agood luck charm, as the Hawks clinched a spot in the Stanley CupPlayoffs later that night! Ezekiel was joined by Horizons for Youth Special Events CoordinatorHaley Verbeke, who had the chance to share some words about theorganization. See for yourself by watching the video below! 

 The final college applications have been sent, and Horizons forYouth's class of high school seniors are still working hard to preparethemselves to take the next step in their academic careers. Here's an update on the accomplishments to date of our Class of2015: - Received   to schools including Illinois, Indiana,36 acceptancesMarquette, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Butler, Bradley,Missouri, Augustana, Illinois State, Dominican, and Western Illinois,among others - Awarded  , with more$141,742 in total scholarships per yearforthcoming.  Our High School Program's March Outing was a perfect example ofthe years of hard work it takes to prepare our students for successin college and beyond. On March 21st, our high school students took part in our annualProfessional Development Workshop, a 5-hour training seminar thatincluded detailed, step-by-stupid instructions on the following: 

Resume writingCreating compelling cover lettersJob interviews: Do's and Dont'sThe importance of networkingProper communication practices: written vs verbalDressing for successMonitoring social media activityPursuing internships & summer employment opportunities

 Ultimately, success is the result of much more than simply gainingadmittance to college. Fortunately, because of specialized traininglike our Professional Development Workshop, our students arewell-positioned to experience success in all aspects of their personaland professional lives._______________________________________________________
