Polar Satellites

• Provide high-resolution imagery and soundings of the earth’s atmosphere and surface (land, sea, and ice)

• Complement in situ, land-based remote sensors, and geosynchronous satellite data

• Most substantial current contribution is to global numerical weather prediction
