Greetings Nobles, Open House on July 24th was a huge success with over four hundred people attending and over one hundred thousand dollars in pledges plus a busy month of August. My son, Noble Chad Thomas, was married on August 2ndand Lady Brenda and I have a new daughter-in-law and Anah has a new Lady Suzanne. We are so blessed to have Suz in both our families, she’s no stranger to Anah events we just have another Mrs. Thomas the Thomas boys have to answer too. At this writing Lady Brenda and I have just returned from Mazol Shriners Summer Ceremonial in Rocky Harbor, Newfoundland. I highly recommend for everyone to put this on your bucket list, a trip to Newfoundland, Canada, truly beautiful country and the friendliest people to welcome you anywhere you went. Membership’s Smart Team Family Farm day (we missed because we were in Newfoundland), Waldo County Divan Visitation, Bob Smith picnic, Stated Meeting, Schoodic Shrine Divan Visitation, Indy Car’s Super Supper and Bektash Shriners Visitation in New Hampshire are what kept Lady Brenda and I busy in August. It’s now September and depending on when you receive your Anahgram Labor Day is just around the corner or just went by you. Kids are back in school and the summer has flown by. Anah should be doing business at 1404 Broadway by this reading. Noble Appreciation Night is September 12th with a Cornerstone Ceremony to officially dedicate the
building to kick start the evening, for more details see the ad in this issue. The Northeast Shrine Field days are September 17-20 hosted by Kora Shriners in Lewiston, Anah should be there in full force as it’s the closest it will be other than being the host I expect a huge turnout of Anah Units for the parade. Where has the time gone, it seems like yesterday that I was elected and installed your Potentate and now we only have four months left to go, time does fly when you’re having fun so remember “We never have so much fun.... Doing so much good”. If you can read this, thank a teacher.
Yours in Faith,
Jesse Thomas, Potentate

Where did the summer go? It seems impossible that September is here already. I mentioned it last month in my article, but don’t forget to purchase your tickets and attend Noble Appreciation Night, Sept. 12, at our new temple. It will be a special evening with a cornerstone laying at 5:30 pm, and hopefully we will have in attendance an Imperial Officer to assist
Illustrious Jesse. Also remember Northeast Shrine Association Field Days in Lewiston Sept. 17-20, with the parade on Saturday the 19th at 2 pm. If you aren’t staying overnight, it is only one and a half hours away from Bangor, so you can drive down for the day and enjoy all the festivities, and be home by evening. The Divan traveled to Meddybumps for the Schoodic Shrine Club Divan Visitation and famous fish fry on Saturday, August 22. It is always enjoyable to see our Nobles and Ladies, who live in the Calais area. They do so much for Anah by supporting and selling tickets to Anah’s Circus and helping sell the Potentate’s Calendar. The tip of our Fez to these Nobles and Ladies for a job well done. Remember to enjoy each others’ company to its fullest, and appreciate this Great State of Maine. What a grand time of the year!

On August 8 th, the Coast Guard cutter, Wilbert Terry, was called into action to patrol the waters off Winter Harbor for the annual races and parade. Racing boats in attendance were Captain Carroll Chandler, Lt. Waylon Merchant, Secretary Scott Johnson, Past Captain Bill Sinford, Scott Edgerly, and Yours Truly manning the cutter. Everything went well until Noble Sinford’s boat broke down. He was headed toward the shoals when I cut my big engine in. I managed to get a tow line on and towed him to safety. The crowd was amazed and cheered us on. With any luck, we’ll be invited back next year. While we were all sitting back loading up, we had a visitor from one heck of a photographer. For any more information, you have to ask Captain Chandler. I just had to walk away. By the way, Santa Claus was with us again. I have no idea where he hides the eight reindeer and the red-nosed one. And once again I had to back off and let him sail back to the north so not to cause a scene with the kids. PS: I hope to get on his Christmas list this year. Special thanks to past member, Keith Robbins, for letting me use his mooring for the evening. It’s nice to have friends in close places. Noble Runtz is on the mend after a short illness. We also wish Anita DeMeyer and Waylon Merchant good luck on their recoveries. Birthday celebrators are Scott Forbes and Phil Mondale. Honeymooners are Mike and Nancy Madore. Noble Mike, what do you think you will be doing-watching TV? Oops! Time to go; the phone is ringing. Must be Noble Runtz calling to see if I got back to the port of Trenton safely.

Hello everyone from all of us on ANAH’s S.M.A R.T. Team, I wanted to give you an update of what we have been doing this year. We just had our first event which was the Family Farm Day at Dan & Lanci Costain and Ron & Carol Green’s Farm in Plymouth. It was a great event!! We had 50-60 folks there and the kids and adults had a really good time Dan & Lanci and the Greens went above and beyond to provide a very fun time for all with everything from farmer Ron’s hayride to many, many fun games for the kids. Thank you very much for the Costains and the Greens!!! The next event we had planned was a tailgate party in Sept., but we have decide to put this off until the day of the Super

Noble Ron Bilancia, ReporterHello Fellow Academicians and Ladies ! Very unfortunately, Andy Mays tells me that that there has been some spreading of his cancer, and he really appreciates us keeping him in our thoughts and prayers to help stop it. It’s a tough one. By the time of this writing he will have started chemotherapy. If anyone would like to contact Andy or send him cards and letters, he is at: Andy Mays PO Box 1176 Southwest Harbor, ME 04679 ph. 244-7868 or 664-3861 email is [email protected]. Paul Connelly was released from Maine Veterans Home on Aug 1st. He has been attending physical therapy and went to Boston in August for a kidney treatment. We wish Paul the best as he contends with his medical issues. Donnie Copeland had an active summer between his home lodge of Island Falls #206 and Woodstock Lodge over across the border. In Island Falls the lodge held its annual SummerFest breakfast, and, according to Donnie, “upped the cholesterol level of the town”. The next day Donnie and Gin went over to Woodstock for “Ole Home Days” where Donnie rode with the caboose unit. After the parade PM Mike Brown “presented a wonderful soup-and- sandwich lunch with cake and ice-cream for dessert. Donnie further reports that on August 15th the Past Masters unit presented a Third Degree in Island Falls, and they held a Widows and Ladies night featuring steak and lobster. Keep up the great participation Donnie. J The annual picnic will be Sat. Sept. 12th
Bowl next Feb. We will send out more details later in the year. Our next event will be a “Trunk or Treat” party at the new building on Oct. 30th. This is going to be a fun party where the kids get to trick or treat at several booths all in one building. Please look forward to the info on that on the website and in the Oct. Anahgram. We are also selling bundles of dry, split camp wood for $5.00 per bundle at a few locations. The money we raise will be used to support the events we are planning and also candidates next year. You can buy this at my house 350 Hampden Rd. in Carmel, at Sawyers Dairy in Newport, Ryan Otis’ convenience store in Belfast and at Spaulding Radiator on outer Hammond in Bangor. Don’t forget the mission of the S.M.A.R.T Team is to get families more involved in Anah.

The September 1st meeting will be at Pat’s Pizza. If you don’t get your Anahgram soon enough, you should get a call from the Calling Post. Remember, this is not a reminder from a telemarketer. For the local news that was omitted from the August Anahgram, here goes. Nobel Alan Fernald has been vacationing in Massachusetts. Heard Noble Tom was down one motor on his new boat. Must be conserving gas. My new boat is lost somewhere between Florida and Maine; I have yet to figure out which port it was being delivered to. Got to check, it might have been delivered to Runtz’s shipyard in Jonesport. At the beginning of the Shrine parade in Ellsworth, Noble Steve Fernald was caught with his father’s Potentate fez. His father, Noble John Fernald, was caught with his sons’ Lobster Boat fez on. PS You didn’t think your reporter would notice, did you? The Hancock County Shrine Club would like to especially thank Nobles Tom Fernald and Bud Morrison for the
starting at about noon at Bud and Lorna Young’s, 662 Bald Mtn. Rd. in Dedham. Take the Upper Dedham Rd. right next to Dorsey Furniture in Holden. Go left at the end of that road onto Bald Mtn. Rd. You’ll see the Dedham fire station. Go about three miles. You’ll see their mailbox and house/property. Red barn and gardens. Can’t miss it. Great spot. If you get lost and have a cell phone, call them at 843-6671. It is potluck. BURGERS AND HOT DOGS ARE PROVIDED. People can bring salads of any kind, desserts, or casseroles. You can also bring soft or hard beverages. We also have lobsters. They are optional. If you want lobsters, please let me know how many by email or phone ASAP. Bud gets everyone a good price at just $5 each payable to Bud on the day of the picnic. We have a real nice time. No business meeting. Just getting together and enjoying good food and company. Ladies, kids, and other guests are more than welcome. Come one come all. The next business meeting is the last Wed. of October at 6:30 at Dysart’s on outer Broadway in Bangor across from Gifford’s Ice Cream. Have a great September everyone. And remember, never hesitate to contact me at 989-2617 or at [email protected] with any questions, concerns, news, jokes, gossip, nonsense, or just plain outright lies that you would like to generously share with our Nobles, Ladies, and Anah Shrinedom in general.

great job they did on the insert for the Shrine Ceremonial in the Bangor Daily. Birthday celebrations a little late: Louise Sealey, Pat Gross, Claire Grindal, John Mott, Glenna Ellis, Cindy Walls, Howard Heath, Joseph Jordan, Julie Grindle, Gloria Gomm, Becky Lane, and Scott Edgerly. Honeymooners (also a little late) are Bruce and Lois Clark of Florida (wonder what you’re doing this fine August day), Perley and Karen Merrick, Nelson and Claire Grindal, Wilbert and Joan Terry, and David and Sandra Neal. Current local news: Your local reporter along with his Lady visited the Airline Diner in Amherst for breakfast recently. The cook looked out the window and saw me walking across the parking lot, and before I sat down, she poured me an extra-large mug of coffee. Off to one side sat Nobel Herbert Jordan, one of the honorary members of the Go-Cart Unit. He’s still puzzled and really doesn’t know who I am. But when I left, his Lady remembered me from the past as she checked me out. Not everyone can forget a Lobster Boat member. It must be the way I talk. Heard that Noble Bill Fernald was at the end of a tow line somewhere off the coast of Swans Island. Past Potentate Geddes Simpson and his Lady, Carole (with an e) are on a honeymoon trip to Montreal. Past Potentate John Fernald was asking if anyone has any spare geese to send them to his yard. He is running out of fertilizer. Caught Danny DeWitt out riding with three lovely ladies on the camp road. PS. He knows he can run but he can’t hide from me. Those celebrating birthdays are Mrs. Chuckles, William Abbott, Jeni Weaver, Elaine Jones, Leland Lowell, Eugene Churchill, Michael Billings, Chris Urquhart, Scott Ford, Cecil Fernald, Wendy McKim, Joyce Wasson, Donna Mallory, Clint Richardson, Carl Gomm, and Debbie Dufour. Honeymooners are Sam and Agnes Carr, Eugene and Gladys Kelley, Aaron and Angie Grindel, Mike and Nancy Madore, and Steve and Julie Mosley. Remember, the next event coming is Northeast Field Days in Lewiston. Let’s get out and support our Potentate Jesse Thomas and his Lady Brenda.

We returned from a trip to Jamaica just in time to attend the open house at the new Shrine center on July 24th. And what a facility the new center is! A vast improvement starting with the parking lot and continuing inside with lots of room for all kinds of happenings! I had taken Lady Lorraine to Jamaica as a surprise to celebrate her birthday. Also took the kids and their spouses along to surprise her at the airport in Montego Bay. Great trip! Ate too much food, drank too much rum and spent too much money, but it was sure worth it. I even came back with a new hairdo. Lots of braids. Noble David Weaver, who I though was my buddy, asked if I’d gotten my hair done there. I said you don’t think I had it done here do you? His kind remark was “ I don’t know why you had it done there!” Some people just have no appreciation! I will admit that I did get a few strange looks though. Something about those rum punches made it look a whole lot better in Jamaica. The annual summer get together will be next week as I write this in August. We are going to the historic Victorian Mansion in Dexter for our luncheon. Stories from that trip to follow. Birthdays begin this month with mine followed by three ladies, Carroll Fernald, Pam Tracy and Anne Grant. Noble Bud Morrison finishes up the month. Happy days to us all! Three couples celebrate another year of wedded bliss this month. Bob and Jean Fernald, Sam and Agnes Carr and Yogi and Doris Seymour. Congratulations to all of you and to anyone else celebrating that special day! Be sure to attend the NSA field days being hosted by Kora in Lewiston September 17-20. Should be a fun time and a chance to get your top (on your car) down one more time before they get put away for this season. Several members of our unit family still need our prayers for on going serious medical issues. Please remember them. Prayer does work! Guess that wraps it up for September. Remember, it’s all about the kids! Reporting for the convertibles, Gaylord E. Sundt

Ken Hanscom Jr. Reporter Well this is September, just look at all the hunters that are starting to target practice, won’t be long before bird season opens. If we get enough drivers we will be at Northeast this month, if only for the day. After that we will put the trucks to bed for their long winter nap. Seems like the summer gets shorter every year. A special note about “PAULS PIGS”. They are doing great and the vet said there was no reason they should not live to be at least twenty. Hope I can still chew when he has the barbecue. Birthdays this month are Craig Bussell, Charles Ryder and the ELDERLY Dale Blake. That Dale is just like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going and going. Anniversary wish’s this month go to Ronald and Evelyn Dow, and Scot and Betty Averill. I hope that wrestler was back at Springfield Fair this year. If you have anything that you would like to have me put in the Anahgram, be it children, grand children, pups, pigs, or cats, contact me at home at 794-6675, cell, 794-2222, or [email protected]. Can’t you just see the lights coming on in those Lodges that have been dark all summer. Lets all find a young or old man, and introduce him to Masonry. Until next time, SEE YA!

Here we are right in the middle of Summer and loving every minute of it. You have to keep in mind that I’m writing this the 5th of August. The lawn has finally slowed down and the garden is doing well. Not much going in Shrinedom for me at this time of year. I think God created Maine Summers as a reward to us who stayed in Maine and battled the Winter elements.. I really truly thank Him for that. Leni and I, Mike and Nancy and new Shriner Dwayne Smith and his wife Kim went to the open house at our new Temple and everyone was equally impressed. Mike and I had been through the building before the renovations had begun so we could notice the changes. Getting this big building ready for occupancy is a huge project undertaken by very few Nobles. I want to express my sincere appreciation and a big tip of the Fez to Brad and Steve and everyone else who found time to help out. I’m just sorry I was unable to help . I hope you all have your reservations for the Northeast. It should be a good time. It’s always nice to renew old friendships. The Shrine clubs will be starting up again soon so get ready to get active again. That’s it for this month. Take good care of one another and be safe.

our newest apprentice. The Bar Harbor Parade was treated to several of our brave and intrepid clowns; brave because they dared to get through the traffic jams. Yah-Hoo (Gerald Leighton) put in an ever rarer appearance. That’s what happens when one flees to Florida every autumn. With him were Clipper (Dana Crockett), Stitches (Jeff Adams) and Pop-Fizz (Troy Devoe) who just made it at the step-off due to not taking into account the huge volume of traffic from away. For those of us with long memories, we can recall Jappo (Mike Samiya), the unit’s official “Blast From The Past,” who came out of retirement in honor of the day. The event also saw a first for Clipper who, for the first time in twenty-two years, forgot his gloves! Fou (Martin Perfit) soloed at the July Fourth Home Depot Children’s Workshop and stayed around for the Customer Appreciation Day Hot Dog Roast. Then it was off to Eastport with several of our clowns and their ladies. The roster of zanies for this parade included Bobo (Donny Young), Gizmo (Lorne Noiles) 22 The Anahgram

It astounds me how quickly summer passes. “Like sands through an hourglass.” Though it is only the beginning of August, there are already subtle hints of the changing season. The most notable being the end of our parade season. We Wheelers ended our summer travels by convoying through Lincoln on July 18th and my home town of Bucksport on July 25th. Evidently, we Wheelers will now remain parked and idle until Sept. 19th when we join all our fellow units at the N.E. Field Days in Lewiston. Noble Walter Kennedy and Lady Claire will celebrate another anniversary this month. September birthdays will be enjoyed by Ladies Brittany Shute, Sara Robshaw, and Jenn Lauritsen while Nobles Ralph Robshaw, Kevin Megno, Erik Lauritsen, and Ted Russell will probably forget theirs. We Wheelers are saddened by the lose of Daniel Sampson, who passed away suddenly at home on the first of August. Lady Tammy, our hearts are with you and your family at this sad time. Daniel’s Masonic family will be there for you. You need only ask. Teddy TaTa Reporting

and Diggah (Scott Knight). Also present to assist in creating chaos, confusion, bedlam and general merriment were Doodle and Budgee who slipped across the border from Luxor Temple in New Brunswick. The group managed to be photographed with Senator Susan Collins. Then it was on to Jonesport for Bobo and Gizmo where they connected with Boss Clown Piggy (Tom Vanchieri) and Tag Along (Jeff Clark), our new clown who managed to survive Bar Harbor earlier in the day. Having worked up quite an appetite from all that parading, our heroes paid a visit to Runtz & Ora Farnsworth where they were treated to an array of fresh seafood and, if that wasn’t enough, Ora prepared fresh doughboys for those were still hungry. Saturday, July 11 saw a group of Anah’s best make their way to East Corinth for the parade and Home Days event. Those who braved the heat were Fou (Martin Perfit), Dumpster (Dennis Dyer), Tin Cup (Tom Boone ), Pooch (Pat Kelley), Bobo (Donny Young), Coota (Arthur Watson), Tag Along (Jeff Clark), and Boss Clown Piggy (Tom Vanchieri) who is doing quite well as he convalesces from back surgery. TOO LATE TO REPORT WITH JUNE ACTIVITIES: Jappo (Mike) & Josie Samiya hosted an Old Clowns & Widows Gathering at their home on June 27. The large turn was composed of Bobo (Donny & Janice Young, Bum Bum (Allan) & Rosalie Quinn, TC/TrashCan (Bill) & Tina Taylor, Chuckles (Charlie) & Cheryl Grindle, Tater (Gary) & Cyndie Dorman, Jabo (Jim) & Donna Boober, Goog (Bruce) & Colly Johnson, Bay-Cakes (Kenny) & Patty Gilbert, Yaho (MW Gerald) & Norma Leighton, Dandy Don (Don) & Joyce Nelson, Papa Bear (Richard) & Marge Strang, Slaphot (Dale) & Theresa Hatch, Ducky (Dick) & Debbie La Ferte, Rolo (George) Snedden, Woodie (Ken) Wood, Papa the Clown (Glenn) Sprague, and Dizzy (Brian) Dean. Six widows attended as well: Shirley Hatch (Hoopie Scoopy), Mary Cookson (Cookie), Marilyn Baller (Bummer), Janice Campbell (Boots), Mary Chamberlain (Gen-O), and rounding off our special ladies, Betty Snively (Feste). The Guilford River Fest was held on JULY 25 with the support of (or disruption by) a large contingent of Anah Shrine Clowns including Fou (Martin Perfit), Bo-Bo (Donny Young), Diggah (Scott Knight), Boss Clown Piggy (Tom Vanchieri), Tin Cup (Tom Boone), Dumpster (Dennis Dyer), Coota (Steve Watson), Bay Cakes (Kenny Gibert), Sluggah (Curtis Haynes), Gizmo (Lorne Noiles), Pop Fizz (Troy Devoe) and Tag Along (Jeff Clark) who is our new and remarkably smooth whiteface.
A special thanks to Gismo and Lady Jody for hosting (or is “putting with”) a barbecue and camp out for clowns and other Shriners at their home. Chapin Park Block Party ended the month for the very busy clown unit. This marathon of Balloon twisting resulted in sore hands for DIv-It (Duane Young), Petals (Steve Watson), Scooter (Scott Boucher), Pop Fizz (Troy Devoe), and 0ur very active neophyte, rookie and new guy Tag Along (Jeff Clark). September Birthdays: Fou (Martin Perfit), Sweet-P (Kevin Kirkbride), Div-It (Duane Young). Randi Littlefield, Kim Mushrow & Kathy Denis. Anniversaries: Patches & Heather Mott, Coota & Phyllis Watson, Koko & Kim Mushrow, Gizmo & Jody Noiles. And we all know what follows that. Seems like we just got rid of Old Man Winter. Always work on Membership. Membership is our Lifeline, we need new members to continue on in our endeavors to work for the Children.
Noble Fred Patterson, Reporter Greetings Ladies and Nobles. With the summer of 2015 winding down and the leaves changing soon , I guess that means we are back in the thick of Shrine and Masonic meetings before we all know it. It seems that we will be in our new temple very soon as there are only a few items to tidy up and the big move should be soon, and may be before this print. That is a very exciting thing for Anah and I am looking forward to seeing it in use by all.The Second Section annual summer party was held on August 8 at Noble Krayton andCarol Allen’s camps on Green Lake. We had approximately 20 members and their ladies attend. Director Beals did a great job cooking the chicken and burgers and Noble Krayton cooked the French fries. Noble Tom Dunn arrived in style with his float plane and even gave rides to some in attendance. The Sixth annual Second Section Noble of the Year night is right around the corner. Tickets are still available from Second Section members or at the Recorder’s office. Tickets are only $15.00 per person for an evening of dinner, silent auction and dancing. The recipient for 2015 is Noble Doug Sukeforth and the party will be held on October 3 at the Shrine temple. Silent Auction items are still needed, contact Noble Jerry Hayes for information
or what is needed for items. Participation of as many unit members and ladies is needed to make this event a success, come on out and help out. The 2015 rendition of the Feztival of Trees is in the final planning stages and with the new building it is assured to be bigger and better than the previous two years. The options in the main room are almost endless and I believe they are looking for around 85 trees this year. We are still working out the details on the Gingerbread Cafe’ but I think it will all work out great. Make sure that if you want to submit a tree for the Feztival that you fill out the form on the Anah web site and get it into the Recorders office soon. Our September meeting is scheduled for the 4th at the new Shrine temple on Broadway . Any new Nobles wishing to join The Second Section should plan on attending our September meeting and get your application in to be voted on. We start our meetings at 6:30 PM so you should plan on being there around 5:45 or so to get everything taken care of before we start our meeting. September birthday wishes go out to Ladies Suzette Harford, Bernice Currier, Vicki Jordan, Gail Nason, Jeanette Tardiff, Gail Wallace, Sherry Wardwell and Nobles Big Ed Nason, Bill Harris, and Harland Williamson. September wedding anniversaries go out to Vicki & Gary Jordan and Irene & Sherwell Littlefield Until next time, have a safe month.

SCHOODIC SHRINE CLUB
Noble David G. Beckett, Reporter Greetings from Schoodic Shrine Club: Had a great Shrine Club meeting at Eastern Lodge No. 7, Eastport, on Wednesday, July 22nd. We had 16 Nobles and Blue Lodge guests in attendance. It was a beautiful day and the steaks were done to perfection. If you missed this meeting, you missed a great evening. It is hard to believe we are into September and fall is almost here. Most Blue Lodges are coming out of their summer recess and are gearing up for Inspections and Schools of Instruction. Plan to support these Blue Lodges, it’s where Shriners come from. Our September meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, at Lewy’s Island Lodge No. 138, Princeton .We will meet at 5:30 pm. Remember, this is a Ladies’ Night. This is the night of the marvelous mystery meal, so don’t miss it. Plan to attend and bring a friend and a lady. As we look ahead to October, we will be meeting with the Charlotte County Shrine Club in St. Stephen, NB, on Tuesday, October 27th, at the Masonic Hall, on their Main St. The meeting will begin with a social hour at 5 pm Eastern Time. Noble Warren Orcutt, Sr., Reporter As I write this article I realize that summer is slipping away very quickly. Fall is fast approaching and the leaves will soon be turning color. It is a beautiful time of the year but we all know what is to follow in a few months. Enjoy the good weather while we have it. Hopefully we will have a nice warm fall. Our August 7th meeting was a ladies night and was held at the Degenhart Campground in Jonesport. I was unable to attend so have no report on the meeting. I do know that they were making the plans for the Annual Bob Smith Picnic on August 17th. We are hoping for another beautiful day in Down East Maine for this event. The Northeast Shrine Field Days in
Springfield MA is now a thing of the past and was held August 21-23. I am sure a good time was had by all who attended. Noble Appreciation Night will be held at the Anah Temple on September 13th. Happy Birthday wishes for September go out to Barry Hanscom, Donnie Wright, Bill Sternbergh, Phil Mondville, Leni Weaver, Napoleon Beal, Nancy Chapman, Vernon Scott, Skip Pennell, James Cox, Cecil Fernald, and Sandy Alley. September Anniversary wishes go to Past Potentate Guy and Nancy Chapman, Walter & Claire Kennedy, Mike & Dawn Gooch, Dick & Margaret Gardner, Napoleon & Bernadette Beal, Tom & Bobbie Foss, Vernon & Gail Scott, Mike & Nancy Bailey, William & Ruth Smith, and George & Sheila Alley. Until next month I wish all a great September and good health.
Membership Committee
By Noble Doug Dulac Hello everyone from the membership committee. I wanted to update you all a little bit on membership. First of all let me tell you we had a very successful Hospital Support Night event on Sat. August 2nd. This is something the membership comm. put on to raise awareness of what we really do as Shriners which is support the hospitals. We had a fantastic meal put on by the Second Section, who did it free of charge by the way, a silent auction,3 patients from the hospitals that spoke and some great entertainment by the Skyliners band. Because it was our first time doing this and being in the middle of the summer I was a little nervous about what kind of turnout we would get. I am very pleased to say that we had over 120 in attendance! The deal was that every penny of profit we made would be split between the Boston and Springfield hospitals. We actually will be sending them $1062.00 each! I have spoken with Jesse Thomas our Chief Rabban and it looks like we will do this again next year hopefully on May 16th. In addition to that the membership comm. is meeting once a month and will be starting phone calls to all those nobles
who are behind in dues next month. This seems to help a lot with our retention. I am personally reaching out to all the candidates from 2011,2012,2013 and 2014 each month through a calling post message. I think this keeps them in the loop and informed. Please help us by telling the Shrine story as often as possible. We need to start gearing up for next year’s class, so keep thinking about someone who would make a good Mason and Shriner.

After the June ceremonial here in Ellsworth, the NASCARS welcomed aboard four new members, David, Ted, Greg, and Andy. Welcome new members. The ceremonial was well attended, and a great performance was made. Thank you members who attended. At the circus, nobles spun over 3800 cotton candies to a nearly sell out crowd. great job to those who attended. A NASCAR camping weekend was held at Timberland Acres in Trenton on July 24 and 25. Breakfast was served by the unit on Saturday morning, Soon after, a rubber duck race was held, with Captain Lee Klug winning in the final race. He graciously donated his winnings towards the fundraiser fund for the hospitals. A great attendance by unit members. Parades to date are the Special Olympics in Orono on June 5th, the Ceremonial on June 20th with outstanding attendance on both. Also to date, parades in Bar Harbor on July 4th, Rockland at the Lobster festival on August 1st, and Winter Harbor on August 8th with 8 attending each of these. would like to have seen more, but good job to those who attended. The annual camping fundraiser at Katahdin Shadows in Medway will be held on August 21st through August 23rd. Last year, by generous donation, we raised over 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS!! Wow! Such a great amount for the hospitals. With a great effort by many, perhaps we could do better, and raise even more for the hospitals. Maybe? As a reminder, on October 16th and 17th, there will be a hospital screening. Not sure of the location at this time. Happy anniversaries go to Kenny and Deb Worden, Bryon and Susan Saunders, Ed and Pat Coolidge, Will and Christine Blaisdell, Vinny and Linda MacIntyre, and Matt and Melissa Foster. I’M BACK!!! Greetings Nobles and Ladies, I’m back at the reporter’s desk again, and here’s what’s been going on. The month of August we paraded at Rockland, Brownville, and Hampden. At the August meeting, we tabled the secretary’s report until September, and the treasurer’s report was read and accepted. We sold some “Shrine is Good” and Potentate’s T-shirts at the open house of the new building and I’m proud to report that the sales of that night ($530) was donated to the new building fund. Thank you to all who supported us and bought shirts that night! We also pledged a donation to the new building over 5 years, so lets get out and do some parades to help keep this new building up and running. Newest members Will Houston is taking over Bob the Builder until he can get a Tigger outfit, and John Storen is taking over Sponge Bob Square Pants for the time being. Welcome aboard, brethren! There is an idea for a raffle that we can do as a unit, and Mickey Mouse will bring the details to the September meeting. We will
be going over some of the shirt inventory next meeting to see what we need to get rid of and what is still selling, if you want any input, please be there. Once I get my list updated for birthdays and anniversaries, I will start adding them into the report, so please get them to me. Our next monthly meeting will be Monday, September 14th, at the NEW building! Hope to see you all there. Remember, only 70 days until “Huntin’ camp 2015!”
told their love story. On a cheerier note, Sandi has had great reports each time she has been back to Boston and is doing well. Prayers and well wishes to this family for all they have been through this last 18 months. It will be wonderful to have Robert and Sandi at our Shrine functions again. Our August 6th meeting was a ladies night and was held at the Degenhart Campground in Jonesport. I was unable to attend due to harvest season and since I have had no reports sent on what transpired at the meeting, there is no news to report from the August meeting. I do know that they were making the plans for the Annual Bob Smith Picnic on August 16th and this event will be over by the time you read this article. They were also to discuss the upcoming Feztival of Trees and Washington County’s theme. Noble Appreciation Night will be held at the Anah Temple on September 12th. This will be the first official function at our new facility and I hope to see many of you there. Noble John Farrington, Reporter Hello Nobles, I do hope that I am submitting this in time to be published in the September Issue of the Anahgram. My sincere congratulations to anyone that had anything to do with the purchase of the building on Outer Broadway. What a very nice place it is for Anah Shrine to call home. Donna and I attended the open house and I therefore extended a huge thank you Potentate Jesse and his “crew” for such a wonderful reception. To the membership of NPSC and all Shriners, the nominating committee has been busy this summer. The committee has a full slate of officers to present for election at the September meeting. Richard Elwell, Burt Weed 1 and I will stay in our respective positions if so elected. Tony Bowers is being placed in nomination as Vice President. In addition to the four principle officers the following list of Nobles will be placed in nomination as Directors of NPSC. They are: Jerry Anthony, Sheldon Cole, Jamie Graham, Wallace Harvey, Robert Libby, Ronald McComb, Ken Perkins, Dale Porter, Derward Shedd, and Paul Thornton. A Director’s meeting will take place at the home of Richard Elwell on September 24 at 6:30 p.m. Directions will be forthcoming. question is: Where did the term “Read the Riot Act” come from? “The Wizard of Chew” After a very enjoyable parade in Lincoln... On the bus sat the crew and after a Camel’s Milk or two Mighty Ritchie decided to take a chew. Then he noticed a young lad with cone hat and He said, I’ve got have that Asked if he would sell the hat. The young lad said he couldn’t do thatRitchie said, I’ve got to have that hat. The lad would not let it go for a fee Instead would let Ritchie have it for free Ritchie loves that hat a bunch. But on his head he looks like a dunce. Mighty Ritchie did what he had to do and will forever be known as “The Wizard of Chew” The time has come to close the “Blotter” for this month and to remember “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS”.

The Feztivalof Trees
Bob Pullen, Reporter By the time you read this we will have had restarted our monthly meetings. We are now meeting at the new facility on outer Broadway. I am looking forward to presenting an event worthy of this new building and what I hope to be a new chapter for Anah Shriners. We have either the luxury or the daunting task of transforming this building into a winter wonderland. Sometimes an artist needs “Devine” intervention to create a masterpiece from a blank canvas and we are faced with that task this year. I am truly blessed to have the committee I have. They are very diverse and talented so I know your expectations will be met or exceeded again this year. With ample parking, a building that just exudes the Shrine spirit along with the beautiful grounds, all being overseen by our Silent Messenger we seem to have an abundance of pluses in our columns already. I can’t stress enough that this is “YOUR” Feztival and we would love to hear your ideas, not to say all ideas will be implemented this year but in order to keep this event growing we need to continually bring the awe factor to our visitors. We will be meeting, as I have previously stated in other columns, on the second Monday of the month, at 6 PM. so drop by, even if it is to just see what it takes to put on an event of this magnitude. I also can not stress enough that many hands make for light work. It is so rewarding to hear the praise from the patrons, letting us know they will be back next year with additional people. We are only three months away from the Feztival so the clock is ticking. The final push has begun and I know we won’t disappoint you. Until next month be safe, hug your loved ones, and think Christmas thoughts.
of the summer, bask in that warm sunshine and think of us with almost nothing to do. We do want to thank all who took part in the June Festivities. WE are also looking forward to getting into our new home at 1404 Broadway. What a great looking place to call home. Every one was spot on on that call. Since in is expensive, we wont waste any more of it , ju st hope to see you next time This is the cub reporter signing off....

Kara’s StoryBy Ethel Dow, parent of SHC – Boston patient
In recogniton of National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness Month, we share the following reflect I was 34 weeks pregnant when doctors told me there was a possibility my baby would be born with both cleft lip and palate. This news came as huge shock. The condition does not run on either side of the family and my older daughter was not born with either cleft lip or palate. A few weeks later, beautiful Kara was born and the doctors’ concerns were confirmed. Kara’s father and I found Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston through an acquaintance in our town whose children had seen Dr. Lewis. I made an appointment, had a consultation and left our first visit feeling completely comfortable placing my daughter’s care in his hands. That was just the beginning of Kara’s journey. We have been going to the Boston Shriners Hospital since Kara was six weeks old. Today she is a happy, healthy nine-year-old. We have a great love for all the staff, ALL the nurses in the clinic and on the recovery floor, and Susie the medical photographer. The nurses who have cared for Kara take care of her like she is their own daughter. As a mom, I cannot thank them enough. Kara’s journey at Shriners has also brought new friends. She became best of friends with one of her “roommates,” keeping in touch often. Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston is a special place, not just because of the great care Kara has received, but because of the tremendous support we have all received.
