Power on Your IP40Connect the power adapter to the power port on the rear panel of the IP40, and then plug in the power adapter to a power source.The PWR LED on the front panel will light up, indicating that the IP40 is now powered on.

Connecting to Your NetworkConnect one end of a straight-through cable (not included with the IP40) to the WAN port on the rear panel of the IP40, and the other end to your cable or DSL modem. Ensure that your DSL or cable modem is powered on.The WAN LED on the front panel of your device will light up, indicating proper connection to your modem.Connect one end of the crossover cable provided with your IP40 to the IP40 LAN port, and the other end of the cable to your computer. Refer to the Nokia IP40 User Guide on the CDROM for information on using the DMZ, Console and AUX portsIf you are connecting to a hub or a switch, use a straight-through cable.The LAN LED will light up, indicating that the computer has connected. Refer to the User Guide on the CDROM for more information.The examples below illustrate the proper cabling with and without the hub or switch.

Configuring Your ComputerBefore continuing, ensure that your computer is configured correctly by following the steps below.

NoteRefer to the User Guide on the CDROM for configuring from other operating systems.

Windows 98/Me Users:Open the Control Panel from Start > Settings > Control Panel.Double click the Network icon to open the Network window.Double click on TCP/IP to open the TCP/IP properties window.Click the Gateway tab and remove any installed gateways.Click the DNS configuration tab and click Disable DNS radio button.Click the IP Address tab, and click obtain an IP address automatically radio button.

Windows 2000/XP Users:Open the Control Panel from Start > Settings > Control Panel (Start > Control Panel from Windows XP).Double click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon (Network Connections icon in Windows XP).Right click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu.In the Local Area Connection Properties window, double click TCP/IP and click Properties. Select Obtain an IP address automatically in the TCP/IP properties window, and click Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Click OK to close the Properties window, and click OK again to apply settings.Close any additional windows that are open, and Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer. Restart your DSL or cable modem.

Getting Started with the Nokia IP40Once the STAT LED turns green, launch your web browser, and type http://my.firewall in the address bar. The initial login screen appears.

NoteRefer to the Troubleshooting section at the end of this document if you are unable to access the GUI portal.

The IP40 ships without a password defined. Set up the administrator password and press OK.The Setup Wizard pops up automatically. Use the wizard to configure the IP40 for Internet connection. If you wish to to use the wizard later, click Cancel.Choose your Internet connection method from one of the following: Direct LAN, Cable Modem, PPTP or PPPoE dialer. See your administrator or service provider for completing the WAN details.

After you have successfully connected to the Internet, the Setup Wizard prompts you to configure the device time.Click Next from the Registration page to register at the Nokia support site. Registration is required to take advantage of Nokia support and services.If your IP40 is centrally managed:

Ensure that the ‘I wish to connect to a Service Center’ checkbox is checked, and enter the management server’s IP address and click Next. Enter the Gateway ID and Registration Key as defined in the central management server and click Next. The services to which you have subscribed becomes available on your IP40.

If your IP40 is not centrally managed, ensure that the ‘I wish to connect to a Service Center’ checkbox is not checked, and click Next.The Welcome screen appears displaying the license installed on the IP40.The initial setup is complete. Refer to the User Guide for more information.

TroubleshootingIf you are unable to access the IP40 GUI portal or connect to the Internet, ensure or do the following:

Ensure that the STAT LED is green and the appropriate link LED is lit.Release and renew the IP address by restarting your computer or running the Refresh IP tool located in the tools folder on the CDROM If your browser is configured to use a proxy server, ensure http://my.firewall is included in the browser’s exception list or remove the proxy setting from your browser.Uninstall the PPPoE client on your computer since the IP40 performs the PPPoE negotiation for your computer.
