Fellow Nomads
October was our first visit to one of our favourite venues, St Francis Bay Golf Club. The course was in great condition as usual and my thanks go to the Club and their staff for the welcome and the use of their facilities. Many thanks to Arthur Baggott who represented the Club and who is also a past Nomad. He did not have a great day on the course, despite his local knowledge but did enjoy the outing and may be convinced to join up again. Thanks also to Junior Vice Captain Ian O'Conner who filled in as Captain to play with the host member as I was playing my GPKO on the day. We had a bit of a sad send-off for the caterers at St Francis Bay Golf Club who will sever their ties with the Club next month. I would like to wish them every success in their future endeavours – thanks for all the lovely meals over many years and the take-away pies, which proved to be very popular. To one of the most efficient bar ladies around, well done Lillian on keeping the Nomads hydrated as usual

Doing Good:Nomads Eastern Cape have shown their support for the Walmer Country Club Development Chapter by donating windbreakers and offering financial aid of R 30,000 until 2016.At the launch of the sponsorship were the Nomads National Chairman, Greg Clack (left), SA Golf Development Board, Chief Executive, Grant Hepburn (centre) and the Nomads EC Captain, Stuart McIver. The programme for 24 Walmer Township children was started at the beginning of this year and is funded in its entirety by the EPGU. Our Fines Master
Many Nomads used this game to complete the first round of the GPKO with a few really close games and one that saw the players venturing down the 10th in a play-off. Well done to National Chairman Greg and Vice Captain Nick on wrapping up their game on the first extra hole and not having to venture to the furthest point of the golf course. Dennis Jones and I played against Past Captain Ken Russell and Burt Botha, who managed to triumph by one single point. Good luck to them going forward as we compete for the Plate Event.
The scores were pretty good on the day, despite some tricky pin positions. Congratulations to the winners, remember that qualification for Gold Cup has been extended to the March 2015 game. The ladies were brilliant on the day with only Jeanne, Shaakira and Chrystelle present and managed to get the prize sheet ready in good time. We managed to start the prize-giving at a decent time which was appreciated by all so that they could venture home at a decent hour. We still need to hasten to the showers after the game so that we can begin even earlier as this has been identified as a deterrent to staying for prize-giving by several Nomads.
I was honoured to hand over a 20 year tie to our equipment Officer, Orion Meyer, well done Orion on this achievement and we look forward to seeing you at Nomads for many more years. I took great pleasure in handing over a 100 game badge to our very own National Chairman, Greg Clack. Congratulations Greg and we look forward to your 200 game badge. Furthermore, there were two inductions on the day, Sponsor Member Danie Gerber from UTI and Full Member, Donovan Oosthuizen. Welcome to Nomads gentlemen and I wish you many years of happy golfing and camaraderie in the years to come.
We look forward to seeing you all at The St Francis Links on 16 November where we will have a shotgun-start, as is customary at this venue. A bus has been arranged to take and fetch you to the venue so please support this and have some fun with your fellow Nomads, there will be some refreshments for those that may be a tad thirsty!!
Good Golfing
Stuart

Greg Clack - 100 games
Hi Fellow Nomads. The charity year is going well and
we raised about R30k from the AMT golf day, so
once again a very special thank you for all those that
attended and sponsored. It is much appreciated.
Aurora have already made a few purchases. A gazebo which they
will use at golf days to raise further funds for their charity. They
used it at the calamari classic golf day and were given a spot for
free.
They have also purchased a printer, which was also used at the golf
day. They set up a photo booth and then got the golfers to go in and
dress up. They the charged each of the golfers R20 for the photo.
They managed to raise R7000 from this, so it was indeed a privilege
to have been able to assist them with further fund raising.
They also needed to purchase a projector which will be used to
train the staff.
As far as Superbru winnings are concerned, I have completed all
the calculations and whisky will be winging its way to the lucky
winners shortly.
Last month's monthly game was
at St. Francis where Greg and
I played our round one Gary
Player competition against
Bruce Watson and Brian
Desfountain, and what a game
it was. We had to give them 19,
and had only pegged back 4 by
the end of the first 9. We
were staring our first ever
opening round loss down the

barrel. It came down to the last and we needed 2 more points to
halve and go down extra holes. Bruce carve his in the bushes right
for his second effectively putting him out. Brian had played 2 and
was only up where our drives were. We had our chance. BUT….the
National chairman decided to shank his second into the bushes
right, dropped out, chipped to the left hand side of the green and
couldn't hole out to make a point. Now it was down to Brian and
myself. Brian put his third just short to the left of the green. I
over clubbed but was on the back edge of the green with the pin at
the front. Brian chipped to about 7 ft. I putted down to about the
same distance. He had to miss, which he duly did to make a black
out, and I needed to sink to go to extra holes. Fortunately, it snuck
in the side door for 2 points. Then on the extra hole, the par 3,
Bruce dunched his chip into the bunker, which was good enough to
see us through. It was nail biting stuff and mentally
exhausting…..now
we are going all
the way.
Until next month -
Nick

Fellow Nomads,
I had the pleasure of playing with Arthur Baggott
whom was the Club's representative on the day.
We, however, had the financial misfortune of playing against Ian
Macaulay (G.P. partner) and Dave Pearson. Arthur and I didn't
acquit ourselves very well on the day, which was later also
confirmed by us being awarded the worst playing pair award at
prize-giving !
Notwithstanding this we had a good time out on the course which
presented all with a fair to challenging golfing experience. The
course was in great shape overall with the greens a little slow due
to recent reconditioning.
The ladies must again be congratulated in finalising the results in
record time. This assisted us in getting the prize-giving started
nice and early and ensured it was executed effectively.
Thanks must also go to the enthusiastic members of the “Worst
Playing Fourball” who dis-assembled the Altar in record time.
‘Till next time,
Ian
