NOMINATION CRITERIA & SUBMISSION FORMS


Dear Members and Friends,

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida and Title Sponsor, Walt Disney World Resort proudly present the 2015 Eagle Awards honoring successful African American businesses and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of African American businesses in Central Florida. The event will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The African American Chamber has been serving Central Florida as an advocate for the advancement of African American businesses since 1945. The Chamber is extremely proud of its history and its members’ contributions to the community. We hope your organization will join us in honoring area businesses and organizations committed to the advancement of African American businesses by submitting a nomination for this upcoming recognition ceremony.

Once the attached nomination forms are completed and returned to the Chamber, we will assess your nominee’s level of commitment to the African American business community in Central Florida. We will determine the Business Recognition and Eagle Award winners upon reviewing all entries.

We look forward to sharing your success story with the community during the Eagle Award ceremony on Saturday, January 17, 2015.

The Corporate Recognition Award goes to the organization that demonstrates the highest commitment to business and social responsibility. Each year, the Chamber bestows the honor upon an organization or corporation that has made exceptional contributions and connections to the African American small business community throughout Central Florida. The ideal corporation has been instrumental in growing African American small- businesses by providing sound professional advice, performing duties beyond normal practices, and positively influence businesses on a mentorship or contractual basis. The winner will demonstrate its voluntary actions above ordinary compliance measures and impressive record of accomplishments, such as promoting ethical business, a commitment to sustainability, and involvement with local communities.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:• Be a member in good standing with the African American Chamber of Commerce• Demonstrate efforts to advance the African American business community• Demonstrate a commitment to Supplier Diversity• Demonstrate accomplishments in advising African American business groups within the overall

business community• Demonstrate commitment and innovation for increasing business opportunities through

mentoring, facilitating enhanced finance options, etc.• Demonstrate commitment to the advancement of African American business community interests• Demonstrate commitment to business corporate citizenship by creating innovative opportunities

for African Americans• Foster diversity in the workplace with programs that maximize the potential of all employees• Have an office location in Central Florida

The Eagle Award is reserved for the company that demonstrates the highest excellencein business.

2015 EAGLE AWARD

The focus of the award is on financial performance and future objectives, the competitive advantage of the business, and examples of specific strategies that have driven business growth. This award recognizes and honors an African American business that has made notable, long-term contributions to economic development, their industry and community. Individuals are chosen based on their contributions or success in business.

A selection committee will review and evaluate the nominations and select a winner based on the presentation of information with the following criteria:

• Be a member in good standing with the African American Chamber of Commerce• Business headquarters are in the Central Florida area• Have been in business a minimum of five (5) years• Exhibits revenue and/or employee growth• A solid financial base• Be an independent, for-profit corporation, partnership or proprietorship• Evidence of community service contributions or involvement• Must not have filed Chapter 7 or 11, bankruptcy, or been subject to any civil or criminal investigations

within the last three years• Provide success stories and testimonial

2015 EMERGING BUSINESS AWARD

This award honors outstanding businesses and executives who have made a significant contribution to the Central Florida business community. The goal of the award is to recognize a business in operation less than five years that has demonstrated excellence in business practices and growth from its start-up, as well as continued financial stability, improvement, and customer service. The award is given annually to a business that has made exceptional contributions to the community and demonstrated significant growth and innovation in their field. This award is a highly respected acknowledgement of African American business accomplishment.

An independent committee will review and evaluate the nominations and select a winner based on the following criteria:

• Be a member in good standing with the African American Chamber of Commerce• Staying power: a substantiated history as an established business• Job creation - a benchmark to judge the business’s impact• Jobs your company provides (minimum wage, middle management, professional/technical, skilled, etc.)• Net wealth creation: An indication of continued growth• Describe what portion of your sales revenue is derived from local, state, regional, national or

international markets• Innovation: illustrations of the business’s creativity and imagination• Response to adversity: Situations in which your business has overcome adversity• Community contribution: List any community service activities in which your company is involved

2015 ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is for an individual who has been instrumental in the success of a business. It will take into consideration the overall performance of the business over the last three years, what the entrepreneur believes makes them different, and their vision for the future of the business.

Nominations are judged using the following criteria:• Be a member in good standing with the African American Chamber of Commerce • Successful business start-up• Business growth• Community involvement

The selection committee will consider factors such as the positive changes that have occurred through access to training and services, as well as any significant problems or barriers the nominee had to overcome in their steps towards economic independence.
