Much of the credit for this goes to many of you reading this column. The number of people from our church involved in making Christmas so meaningful at Ox Hill is amazing — the writers of our annual devotional book, participants in the worship services, the choirs (both voice and bell), all the activities’ participants, carolers and those who support all these activities in various ways. It is truly an all-church effort and you rose to the occasion. I would be remiss if I failed to mention the office staff (Dawn, Anne, Kim and Helen) and their heroic efforts in supporting almost all the activities along with dedicated, competent leadership from Paul, Garrett and Wilson. We are truly blessed with an outstanding ministry team. My appreciation and gratitude goes out to each one of them. Did I say things are starting to return to normal? Anything but….! Ox Hill seems like the weather – constantly changing! If you haven’t heard, Alberta and Bob Aikin relocated away from our community just before Christmas. For several months, Alberta ministered to many of us as Pastoral Assistant for Congregational Care and Spiritual Enrichment. We are all going to miss her. As if that were not enough, Dawn Groves, my assistant (and the assistant to almost every member of Ox Hill!), has announced that she is moving soon. While she will be commuting for a while, her place will too quickly become vacant and will need to be filled. This New Year is shaping up to be like every New Year – challenging. But as much as things change, there is one constant you can always count on – God’s presence, grace and love. Whatever comes, however it comes, whatever the challenges are, God will be with us. If we are faithful and attentive, God will be guiding us. That alone will make it a Happy New Year!

If not yet, the Christmas tree will soon be down, the lights and ornaments boxed up and life will be starting to return to normal. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year! Christmas is an exciting time and at Ox Hill— it is on the same level as an old-fashioned revival — a time of genuine spiritual renewal.
