Non-Profit Organization Survey Summary for Pulaski County
The Community Foundation of Pulaski County conducted an electronic survey of Pulaski County non-profit organizations to assess the status of local nonprofit management. Survey results will allow the Foundation to determine needs for capacity building and to develop educational sessions and assistance to help nonprofit organizations advance their mission.
This survey included 53 questions covering several areas in the management of a non-profit organization, including mission, planning, impact, governance, financial management, human resources, fundraising, culture, information technology, volunteer management and marketing.
Of the 55 electronic survey invitations sent out in Pulaski County, there were 43 responses, resulting in a 78% response rate. This is significantly higher than the current average email response rate of 30%!
Survey Highlights:
Where respondents indicated their opinions about their organization’s health in various
management areas, the following “trouble spots” were identified (based on number of
respondents who “disagreed” or “somewhat disagreed” with proposed statements)
• Planning
• Information Technology – donor databases, websites
• Fundraising
• Governance/Board of Directors
• Volunteer Management
• Marketing
Respondents Role in Organization
• Executive leadership (50%)
• Board member (31%)
• Volunteer (31%)
• Staff (9%)
Focus of Organization as identified by respondents
• Community Economic Development (29%)
• Health (25%)
• Human services (25%)
• Other - cemetery, government, religious (25%)
Annual Operating Budget
• Up to $50,000 (48%)
• $100,000 – $249,000 (16%)
• $250,000 - $499,000 (16%)

• Governance/Board of Directors (25%)
• Grant identification, writing, administration (25%)
• Planning (21%)
What is the best day of the week and best time of the day for a nonprofit training session?
• No one day was clearly identified, but Friday was the least chosen and morning was
slightly preferred over afternoon.
If a monthly series of nonprofit management seminars were offered that result in
certification, would you find that valuable?
• Yes - 64%
• No - 32%
How much would you be willing to pay for a 3-4-hour training session regarding various
non-profit management topics?
• Do not have dollars for training (59%)
• Would pay $30-$49 per session (25%)
• Would pay $50-$99 per session (14%)
Would you prefer a web-based or in person training session?
• In person training (75%)
• Web based training (25%)
It is worth considering that of the 43 respondents, the number of participants who opted out of certain questions (primarily questions 43 – 52) at times reached 37%. There could be a variety of reasons to consider for that response pattern since the survey questions covered a wide array of areas as noted above. Based on the response rate, these results will provide reliable insights for understanding the opportunities that exist to support nonprofits in Pulaski County.
