target AudienceThe symposium is designed for urologists and urologic allied health profes-sionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of the current diagnostic andtherapeutic modalities in urology.
Purpose and ContentThe Paul C. Peters Urology Symposium will review current recommendations,issues, and controversies in the management of urologic conditions, with anemphasis on topics relevant to the general urologist. Point-counterpoints willfocus on highlighting the management and therapeutic options for selectedurologic disease processes. Live surgical cases will be televised and moder-ated to emphasize important aspects of patient selection and surgical tech-nique. Additionally, through case discussions management of practical casesin urology will be reviewed, with audience participation.
educational objectivesUpon completion of this symposium, the participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies (Medical Knowledge andPatient Care) and be able to:
• Diagnose and treat patients with pelvic organ prolapse and/or urinary incontinence.
• Diagnose and surgically treat BPH. Understand the risks, benefits, and expected outcomes of novel surgical techniques for BPH management.
• Review contemporary surgical techniques for the treatmentof erectile dysfunction.
• Describe the indications and approaches for contemporary medicaland surgical management options of upper urinary tract stones.
• Recognize the diagnostic workup and treatments for male factor infertility. • Employ contemporary treatments for prostate cancer including both
locally invasive and advanced disease. Understand the efficacy of and risks associated with these treatments.
• Identify and adopt strategies to improve urologic practice management.• Integrate care for patients with congenital urologic disorders as they
transition from adolescence to adulthood.• Recognize contemporary approaches to bladder cancer diagnosis
and understand how to apply tri-modality treatment strategies.
