    - Satisfactory completion of a written examination covering operational characteristics, controls, and

emergency control skills, such as response to fire, power line contact, loss of stability, or control malfunction,

as well as characteristic and performance questions appropriate to the crane type for which qualification is

    being sought.

    - Demonstrated ability to read, write, comprehend, and use arithmetic and a load rating chart, in the language

of the crane manufacturers operation and maintenance instruction materials.

    - Satisfactory completion of a combination written and verbal test on load rating chart usage that covers a

selection of the configurations for the crane type for which qualification is being sought.

satisfactory completion of an operation test

    - Demonstrating proficiency in performing lifting, lowering, booming, telescoping, and swinging functions at

various radii as well as shutdown. Testing shall also include proficiency in prestart and poststart inspection,

    - Ability to distinguish colors, regardless of position, if color differentiation is required.

    - Adequate hearing to meet operational demands, with or without hearing aid.

    - Sufficient strength, endurance, agility, coordination, and speed of reaction to meet the operation demands.

    - Normal depth perception, field of vision, reaction time, manual dexterity, coordination, and no tendencies to

    dizziness or similar undesirable characteristics.

    - A negative result for a substance abuse test. The level of testing will be determined by the standard practice

for the industry where the crane is employed and this test shall be confirmed by a recognized laboratory
