MARKET OVERVIEW

The global oil and gas sector is clearly undergoing major changes as supply and demand dynamics continue to shift away from the traditional power players in the Middle East to up-and-coming resource plays in North America.

24.3 % of the world’s total primary energy supply comes from the Americas.

North America makes up 17.5 % of the world’s crude oil production.

Canada ranks second in hydro electricity production globally, followed by fourth for crude oil production and fi fth in natural gas production.

The US is the number one producer of natural gas, ranking at 20.7% of the world’s natural gas production.

Canada will need more pipelines built through to 2030 to transport an additional 1.3 million barrels per day of oil sands production to markets across North America and around the world.

The International Energy Agency forecasts that fossil fuels will still account for 77% of the world’s energy use in 2040.

Despite the growth in energy demand, International Energy Agency projects that 540 million people will remain without access to electricity in 2040.

Consumption of all forms of energy continue to grow over the forecast period of 2014 to 2040.
