62nd Annual Program

ENERGY UNLIMITED

Scientists tell us our natural sources of energy are dwindling ata time when the population is increasing. A crisis could ensue un- less bold, imaginative and innovative methods are devised to coun- teract the crisis.

In the field of health there has been such a drain on currentresources in terms of both manpower and means that changes

must be made to meet current needs. Unless changes are made,

we face a crisis which' could undermine our strength and will as

a people.

In the case of the natural energy crisis, the answers must beprimarily technological—in the case of the whole health crisis, the

answers must be primarily human but also technological.

Public health is one facet of the health complex. Presuming thatpublic health workers cannot order change in the entire realm of

health, they must start with their own spheres— their institution

and themselves. What can and should we do?

Out of our own understandings of the needs and the opportunities

not from the drawing boards of Washington or Raleigh—should

come creative ideas to help energize ourselves and others whocovet resolution of the health crisis.
