When to travelNorthern Cyprus is blessed with the most pleasing climate inEurope. The winters are mild and rarely extend beyondFebruary. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, thetemperature can reach into the 70s as early as March. In April,May and June, Northern Cyprus is at its most beautiful, withfields of wild flowers in full bloom, and the weather not unlikethat of a good English summer.

July and August are the hottest months and ideal for sunworshippers. September and October are the most popularmonths, when the weather is still wonderfully warm (rarely below80°F), but the evenings are fresher and more comfortable.

Restaurants and fantastic cuisineThere is a wealth of restaurants to choose from in NorthernCyprus, offering everything from simple local fare to gourmetFrench cuisine. Eating out is not expensive and manyrestaurants can arrange for you to be picked up from yourhotel and dropped back off after your meal, usually withoutcharge. For traditionalists, the cuisine of Northern Cyprus owesits heritage to a mixture of Mediterranean and orientalinfluences. Local dishes are delicious and prepared from freshingredients. Meze is a particular treat – a Cypriot specialityconsisting of a large number of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres,such as different salads, meats and fish dishes. It is servedeither as an appetiser or as a main course. Grilled haloumicheese and sigara borek (feta cheese rolled in filo pastry anddeep-fried) are two delectable dishes often served in a meze.

Other typical dishes of the region include yalanci dolma (vineleaves stuffed with rice, onions and tomatoes); shish kebab(marinated lamb, skewered and grilled over charcoal), kleftiko(leg or shoulder of lamb baked in tomatoes), mousakka (layersof mince, potato and aubergines baked with a cheese topping)and lahmacun (thin Turkish pizza, with minced lamb, salad andspicy peppers wrapped in flat bread). Fish is also particularlygood, and is usually served grilled or as a kebab. Choicesinclude sea bream, red snapper and sea bass.

Typical desserts are lokum (Turkish delight); halva (extremelysweet slices of ground sesame seeds and sugar) and baklava(made from mille-feuille pastry, nuts, honey and syrup), andfinally, the traditional thick Turkish coffee. Waiters will alwaysask how you want it: ‘Sah-de’ means no sugar, ‘Ortah’ meansmedium sweet, and ‘Shekerli’ means sweet. Wine-lovers willenjoy trying the local options. The most popular and deliciousdry, white wine is known as Chankaya. Kavaklidere is thetastiest and best value of the reds.

Enjoy superb value shoppingDuring the summer months, most shops in Northern Cyprusare open Mondays to Saturdays from 8am to 1pm and 3.30pmto 6.30pm. In the winter, they keep the same hours but do notclose at lunchtime. For typical souvenirs of Northern Cyprus,shop for embroidery, lacework, sheepskin rugs and handmadebasketry. Try to avoid the large pottery and ceramic shops, asprices charged are often exorbitant. Better to hunt around inthe smaller gift shops, where prices are much morereasonable. Shopping has an etiquette in Northern Cyprus,especially in the more traditional stores. It can sometimes bemore important to accept a cup of tea or Turkish coffee from ashop owner if offered, and stay for a chat, than to actually buyanything. Food, toiletries and general day to day items can be

purchased from the larger supermarkets, which can be foundin and around the main towns of Kyrenia and Famagusta. Thesigns ‘Lemar’ and ‘Tempo’ indicate two of Cyprus’ biggestsupermarket chains.

Make your money go furtherThe currency of Northern Cyprus is the New Turkish Lira (TRY) –the exchange rate at the time of going to press was about 3.59TRY to the pound sterling. Please check rates with your UK bankprior to departure. You can purchase TRY before departingfrom the UK, but changing sterling at banks and bureaux dechange in Northern Cyprus usually produces a slightly betterrate. Also, sterling is quite often quoted and accepted aspayment in restaurants, shops and hotels. If that is not thecase, inform your supplier that you would like to pay in poundswhen you ask for your bill. Most establishments will translateyour bill into pounds using the exchange rate quoted in thatday’s newspaper. Change will almost always be given in TRY.

Credit cards are gradually becoming more accepted in NorthernCyprus and there are many cash machines in main town centreswhere Turkish Lira may be obtained. Using a debit or credit cardin Northern Cyprus can often attract a hefty commission charge.Check with the retailer or bank before passing over your card.

1. Our Agreement With You.Your contract is with CYPRUS PREMIER HOLIDAYSLTD trading as CYPRUS PARADISE , having itsRegistered office address at 311 Ballards Lane,Finchley, London , N12 8LY. When you make abooking you guarantee that you have the authorityto accept and do accept on behalf of your party theterms of these booking conditions. A contract willexist as soon as your booking is confirmed, at whichtime you will be given a unique booking number.This contract is made under the terms of thesebooking conditions, which are governed by EnglishLaw, and the jurisdiction of the English Courts. Youmay however, choose the law and jurisdiction ofScotland or Northern Ireland if you wish to do so.

2. Your Financial ProtectionWe provide full financial protection for our packageholidays. When you buy an ATOL protected airholiday package from us you will receive aConfirmation Invoice from us (or via our authorisedagent through which you booked) confirming yourarrangements and your protection under our AirTravel Organiser’s Licence number 9345. In theunlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensurethat you are not stranded abroad and will arrange torefund any money you have paid to us for anadvance booking. 3. ABTAWe are a voluntary Member of ABTA, membershipnumber Y2916. We are obliged to maintain a highstandard of service to you by ABTA’s Code ofConduct. We can also offer you an arbitration schemefor the resolution of disputes arising out of, or inconnection with this contract. The arbitration schemeis arranged by ABTA and administered independentlyby IDRS, part of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.It provides for a simple and inexpensive method ofarbitration on documents alone with restrictedliability on you in respect of costs. The scheme doesnot apply to claims for an amount greater than £5,000per person. There is also a limit of £25,000 perbooking. Neither does it apply to claims which aresolely in respect of physical injury or illness or theirconsequences. The scheme can however deal withcompensation claims which include an element ofminor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,000 onthe amount the arbitrator can award per person inrespect of this element. Your request for arbitrationmust be received by ABTA within twelve months ofthe date of return from holiday. Outside this time limitarbitration under the Scheme may still be available ifwe agree, but the ABTA Code does not require suchagreement. For injury and illness claims, you canrequest the ABTA/IDRS Mediation Procedure and wehave the option to agree to mediation. Furtherinformation on the Code and ABTA’s assistance inresolving disputes can be found on www.abta.com.

4. Your Holiday Pricea)We reserve the right to alter the prices of any ofthe holidays shown in our brochure. You will beadvised of the current price of the holiday that youwish to book before your contract is confirmed.

b)When you make your booking you must pay a non-refundable deposit of £75 per person. Higher depositsor flight balance may be due at the time of booking forcertain flights/airlines and may be non-refundable(please enquire at time of booking). Certain holidaypackages may also require full non-refundablepayment at time of booking. The balance of the priceof your travel arrangements must be paid at least 8weeks before your departure date. If the depositand/or balance is not paid in time, we shall cancel yourtravel arrangements and we shall retain your deposit.Payment by credit card will incur a 1.95% non-refundable surcharge unless otherwise notified at thetime of payment that there has been a change in thisrate. No charge is made for payment by debit card. Allmonies you pay to the travel agent are held by themon our behalf at all times. Any variation to this pricingpolicy will be notified to you at time of booking.

c) Changes in transportation costs (including the costof fuel, dues, taxes or fees chargeable for servicessuch as landing taxes or embarkation or disembark-ation fees at ports and airports) and exchange ratesmean that the price of your travel arrangements maychange after you have booked. However there will beno change within 30 days of your departure. We willabsorb and you will not be charged for any increaseequivalent to 2% of the price of your travelarrangements, which excludes insurance premiumsand any amendment charges. You will be charged forthe amount over and above that, plus anadministration charge of £1.00 per person togetherwith an amount to cover agents’ commission. If thismeans that you have to pay an increase of more than10% of the price of your travel arrangements, you willhave the option of accepting a change to anotherholiday if we are able to offer one (if this is ofequivalent or higher quality you will not have to paymore but if it is of lower quality you will be refundedthe difference in price), or cancelling and receiving afull refund of all monies paid, except for anyamendment charges. We will consider an appropriaterefund of insurance premiums paid if you can showthat you are unable to transfer or reuse your policy.Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you mustexercise your right to do so within 14 days from theissue date printed on your final invoice. Should theprice of your holiday go down due to the changesmentioned above, by more than 2% of your holidaycost, then any refund due will be paid to you.However, please note that travel arrangements are notalways purchased in local currency and some apparentchanges have no impact on the price of your traveldue to contractual and other protection in place.

5. If You Change Your BookingIf, after our confirmation invoice has been issued,you wish to change your travel arrangements in anyway, for example your chosen departure date oraccommodation, we will do our utmost to makethese changes but it may not always be possible.Any request for changes to be made must be inwriting from the person who made the booking oryour travel agent. You will be asked to pay anadministration charge of £50 per change, and anyfurther cost we incur in making this alteration. Youshould be aware that these costs could increase thecloser to the departure date that changes are madeand you should contact us as soon as possible. Note:Certain travel arrangements (e.g. Flight Tickets) maynot be changeable after a reservation has beenmade and any alteration request could incur acancellation charge of up to 100% of that part of thearrangements.

6. If You Cancel Your HolidayYou, or any member of your party, may cancel yourtravel arrangements at any time. Written notificationfrom the person who made the booking or yourtravel agent on your behalf must be received at ouroffices. Since we incur costs in cancelling your travelarrangements, you will have to pay the applicablecancellation charges up to the maximum shown inaccordance with the table below. Note: If the reasonfor your cancellation is covered under the terms ofyour insurance policy, you may be able to reclaimthese charges. Please note your booking deposit myincrease or there may be a charge payable for someaccommodation, holidays or flight bookings where itis necessary to secure specific facilities with fullpayment at the time of booking.

7. If We Change or Cancel Your HolidayIt is unlikely that we will have to make any changes toyour travel arrangements, but we do plan thearrangements many months in advance. Occasionally,we may have to make changes and we reserve theright to do so at any time. Most of these changes willbe minor and we will advise you or your travel agentof them at the earliest possible date. We also reservethe right in any circumstances to cancel your travelarrangements. For example, if the minimum numberof clients required for a particular travel arrangementis not reached, we may have to cancel it. However, wewill not cancel your travel arrangements less than 6weeks before your departure date, except for reasons

of force majeure or failure by you to pay the finalbalance. If we are unable to provide the bookedtravel arrangements, you can either have a refund ofall monies paid or accept an offer of alternative travelarrangements of comparable standard from us ifavailable. If it is necessary to cancel your travelarrangements, we will pay to you compensation asset out in this clause.

In accordance with EU Regulation 2111/2005 weare required to advise you of the actual carrieroperating your flight/connecting flight/transfer.Any changes to the actual airline after you havereceived your tickets will be notified to you as soonas possible and in all cases at check-in or at theboarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be aminor change. Other examples of minor changesinclude alteration of your outward/return flights byless than 12 hours, changes to aircraft type, changeof London Airport (i.e. Stansted, Luton, Heathrow orGatwick), change of accommodation to another ofthe same or similar standard. If we make a majorchange to your holiday, we will inform you or yourtravel agent as soon as is reasonably possible if thereis time before your departure. You will have thechoice of either accepting the change ofarrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travelarrangements

of comparable standard from us if available (we willrefund any price difference if the alternative is of alower value), or cancelling your booked holiday andreceiving a full refund of all monies paid. In all cases,except where the major change arises due toreasons of force majeure, we will pay compensationas detailed below:

The compensation that we offer does not exclude youfrom claiming more if you are entitled to do so. ForceMajeure - We will not pay you compensation if wehave to cancel or change your travel arrangements inany way because of unusual or unforeseeablecircumstances beyond our control. These can include,for example, but not limited to, war, riot, industrialdispute, terrorist activity and its consequences, naturalor nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions,epidemics and pandemics, unavoidable technicalproblems with transport.86

BOOKING CONDITIONS

8. If You Have A ComplaintIf you have a problem during your holiday, pleaseinform the relevant supplier (e.g. your hotelier) andyour resort representative immediately, who willendeavour to put things right. If your complaint is notresolved locally, please follow this up within 28 daysof your return home by writing to our CustomerServices Department at Cyprus Premier Holidays Ltd,Rowlandson House, 289-293 Ballards Lane, NorthFinchley, London N12 8NP giving your bookingreference and all other relevant information. Pleasekeep your letter concise and to the point. This willassist us to quickly identify your concerns and speedup our response to you. It is strongly recommendedthat you communicate any complaint to the supplierof the services in question as well as to ourrepresentative without delay and complete a reportwhilst in resort. If you fail to follow this simpleprocedure we will have been deprived of theopportunity to investigate and rectify your complaintwhilst you were in resort and this may affect yourrights under this contract. Please also see clause 3above on ABTA.

9. Our Liability to YouIf the contract we have with you is not performed or isimproperly performed by us or our suppliers we willpay you appropriate compensation if this has affectedthe enjoyment of your travel arrangements. Howeverwe will not be liable where any failure in theperformance of the contract is due to: you; or a thirdparty unconnected with the provision of the travelarrangements and where the failure is unforeseeableor unavoidable; or unusual and unforeseeablecircumstances beyond our control, the consequencesof which could not have been avoided even if all duecare had been exercised; or an event which we or oursuppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee orforestall. Our liability, except in cases involving death,injury or illness, shall be limited to a maximum oftwice the cost of your travel arrangements. Ourliability will also be limited in accordance with and/orin an identical manner to the contractual terms of thecompanies that provide the transportation for yourtravel arrangements. These terms are incorporatedinto this contract; and any relevant internationalconvention, for example the Montreal Convention/Warsaw Convention in respect of travel by air, whichlimit the amount of compensation that you can claimfor death, injury, delay to passengers and loss,damage and delay to luggage. We are to beregarded as having all benefit of any limitation ofcompensation contained in these or any conventions.Under EU law (Regulation 261/2004) you have rightsin some circumstances to refunds and/orcompensation from your airline in cases of deniedboarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full detailsof these rights will be publicised at EU airports andwill also be available from airlines. Howeverreimbursement in such cases will not automatically

entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us.Your right to a refund and/or compensation from us isset out in clause 7. If any payments to you are duefrom us, any payment made to you by the airline willbe deducted from this amount. If your airline doesnot comply with these rules you should complain tothe Air Transport Users’ Council on 020 7240 6061www.auc.org.uk

10. InsuranceIt is a condition of booking your holiday with us thatyou immediately take out relevant travel insurancewith an adequate amount of cover for your chosenholiday. This is your responsibility and it will not bechecked by us. If you chose to travel withoutadequate insurance cover, we will not be liable forany losses howsoever arising.

11. Special RequestsAny special requests must be advised to us at thetime of booking, e.g. diet, room location, a particularfacility at a hotel etc. Whilst every effort will be madeby us to try and arrange your reasonable specialrequests, we cannot guarantee that they will befulfilled. The fact that a special request has beennoted on your confirmation invoice or any otherdocumentation or that it has been passed on to oursuppliers is not confirmation that the request will bemet. Failure to meet any special request will not be abreach of contract on our part unless the request hasbeen specifically confirmed by us in writing.

12. Building WorkNorthern Cyprus permits building work by law, andwe cannot legally prevent this. If disruption in yourresort is severe we shall offer you an alternativeCyprus Premier Holidays accommodation of thesame or similar standard at no extra cost, subject toavailability.

Prompt assistance in resortIf the contract we have with you is not performed or isimproperly performed as a result of failuresattributable to a third party unconnected with theprovision of the services, or as a result of failures dueto unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyondour control, the consequences of which could nothave been avoided even if all due care had beenexercised, or an event which we or our suppliers,even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall,and you suffer an injury or other material loss, we willoffer you such prompt assistance as is reasonable inthe circumstances.

14. Passport, Visa and Immigration RequirementsYour specific passport and visa requirements, andother immigration requirements are your responsibilityand you should confirm these with the relevantEmbassies and/or Consulates. We do not accept anyresponsibility if you cannot travel because you have

not complied with any passport, visa or immigrationrequirements. British passport holders do not requirea visa to enter North Cyprus. Visa is required to enterTurkey, which can be applied online via the TurkishGovernment website www.evisa.gov.tr prior to travel.

Currently, the cost of the e-visa is 20 US Dollars.

15. ExcursionsExcursions or other tours that you may choose tobook or pay for whilst you are on holiday are not partof your package holiday provided by us. For anyexcursion or other tour that you book, your contractwill be with the operator of the excursion or tour andnot with us. We are not responsible for the provisionof the excursion or tour or for anything that happensduring the course of its provision by the operator.

16. Data Protection PolicyCyprus Premier Holidays Ltd is a data protectioncontroller for the purpose of the Data Protection Act1998. It is necessary for us to collect certain personaldetails from you to ensure your booking is processedcorrectly and your travel arrangements meet yourrequirements. These will include, where necessary, thenames and address of party members, credit/debitcard details or other payment details, telephonecontact details and special requirements such asthose relating to any disability, dietary or medicalcondition which may affect the holiday arrangement. Ifwe do require additional personal details, we shalladvise you before we obtain these from you.

17. Brochure AccuracyOur holidays are planned many months in advance ofbrochure production and may not reflect the truesituation at the time you are on holiday. Hoteliers andsuppliers may withdraw or change a facilitytemporarily or otherwise, for local reasons, some ofthe outdoor facilities may not be open early or late inthe season or in the winter or some indoor facilitiesmay be kept closed in the summer. Some advertisedamenities including sports facilities may carry a localcharge. Some facilities may be curtailed as some maybe improved. These are beyond our control. When weare told of any significant changes we will let you knowbefore you travel. Brochures are our responsibility asyour tour operator. They are not issued on behalf of,and do not commit the airlines mentioned herein orany airline whose services are used in the course ofyour travel arrangements. Please note that inaccordance with Air Navigation Orders in order toqualify for infant status, a child must be under 2 yearsof age on the date of its return flight.

18. Price Changes, Pricing and Factual AccuracyEvery attempt has been made to ensure the accuracyof pricing and factual information presented in thisbrochure. However, prices are subject to changewithout notice, and rare pricing errors may occur in

this brochure. Similarly, inadvertent factual errors mayoccur. Cyprus Premier Holidays Ltd will not be heldresponsible for such errors. However, we will takeprompt action to correct any errors that are broughtto our attention.

19. Conduct While TravellingWe reserve the right to refuse to accept you as acustomer or continue dealing with you if we , oranother person in authority, believe your behaviour isdisruptive, causes unnecessary inconvenience, isthreatening or abusive, you damage property, youupset, annoy, disturb or put any other traveller or ourstaff or agents in the UK or resort in any risk ordanger, on the telephone, in writing or in person. Ifthe Captain of your flight or any of our resort staff oragents believes that you could be disruptive or thatyou are suffering from a contagious disease, they canalso refuse to let you proceed with your travelarrangements, restrict your movements on board,disembark you from aircraft or remove you from youraccommodation or excursion. If you are disruptiveand prevented from boarding your outbound flight inthe U.K. we will treat your booking as cancelled byyou from that moment and you will have to pay fullcancellation charges. If this occurs abroad you willthen you will become responsible for your own returnhome and any other members of your group who willnot or cannot travel without you. In any of thesecircumstances no refunds or compensation will bepaid to you and we may make a claim against you fordamages, costs or expenses
