Arts & Venues announce 2015"P.S. You Are Here" GranteesDenver Arts & Venues is revealedthe 2015 "P.S. You Are Here"(PSYAH) grantees. As part ofIMAGINE 2020, Denver's CulturalPlan, Arts & Venues' PSYAHprogram is a citywideneighborhood revitalizationinitiative that helps fundtemporary, collaborative andcommunity‐driven projects inDenver's public spaces. Theprogram is designed to transformunderutilized gathering spacesinto valuable neighborhoodassets and to inspire innovativeideas by community memberswho would be impacted by theprojects.
Dear Friends, The NDCC is finishing 2015 with a bang! Earlier thismonth, the State of Colorado's Economic DevelopmentCommission voted to support the National WesternCenter with $121.5 million in state tourism fundingthrough the Regional Tourism Act. The funding allows usto take the next step toward implementing the boldvision for the National Western Center. The funds will be used to construct elements of theNational Western Center that will drive new tourists tothe future campus. Buildings such as the new LivestockCenter, Stockyards/Events Pavilion and the EquestrianCenter will create new tourist opportunities that will drivevisitor spending. In addition, RTA funding will also supportthe revitalization of the riverfront and new infrastructurethat will help connect the surrounding neighborhoods. As the year comes to an end, we reflect on this significantaccomplishment and others across all six NDCC projects,allowing us the opportunity to serve our community. Thisis also a time to reflect on the many lessons learned. Weare humbled by the many residents who are greatpartners and continue to stay engaged in the NDCC.
Together, we've made great strides in advancing projectsin GES. As we welcome 2016, the same passion and senseof urgency remains. The NDCC looks forward tocontinuing to engage the community and our growing listof partners on all NDCC Projects. On behalf of the NDCC family, we wish you and yours aspirited holiday season. National Western Center Campus
National Renewable Energy Laboratory toAdvance Efforts for a "Net Zero" District atthe National Western CenterThe NDCC and the Colorado State University System (CSUSystem) announced in December that the U.S.Department of Energy's National Renewable EnergyLaboratory (NREL) will help develop sustainable strategiesto create a "net zero" district at the future NationalWestern Center (NWC), placing the project among themost sustainable in the region and creating a nationalexample. Located in nearby Golden, CO, NREL is the only federallaboratory solely dedicated to the research, development,commercialization, and deployment of renewable energyand energy efficiency technologies. The partnershipleverages NREL staff expertise to help create advancedsustainable strategies for the NWC district and to developtechnical resources that allow those strategies to beduplicated in Denver and beyond. Through their involvement, NREL aims to develop newtechnical resources that will help cities, utilities, and theprivate sector work together to achieve net zero districtsacross the United States. Researchers at NREL believethat approaching energy planning at the district scale canunlock new opportunities for cost‐effective energysavings through economies of scale and district energysystems that put to use energy that would normally bewasted.
Acquisition On Monday, December 21, Denver City Council voted topass an ordinance that allows the NDCC to beginacquisition within the National Western Center's campusboundaries. The acquisition team has already beenworking on several acquisition opportunities this pastyear. The ordinance gives the team a green light to beginacquiring property within the boundaries. Platte to Park Hill: Stormwater SystemsThe Platte to Park Hill: Stormwater Systems project willprovide phased community improvements for 5 to 100‐year flood event protection, enhanced multimodalconnectivity, water quality, innovative placemaking, andother amenities to the Cole, Globeville, Elyria, Swansea,River North, Clayton and Northeast Park Hillneighborhoods. The kick‐off public meeting took place onNovember 17th at Bruce Randolph School. Conceptualdesign alternatives currently being considered include:
1. The potential creation of a brand new detentionarea with open channel in the Cole neighborhood ‐or‐
2. Redesigning City Park Golf Course to integrate thegolf course and storm water detention, withadditional open channel opportunities in the Coleneighborhood

Continued Outreach for RiNo Park A fresh public outreach strategy for River North Park nowincludes laminated sheets that are distributed in publicplaces around the RiNo, and adjacent, communities. 2laminated sheets (4 printed sides), are zip tied together tofences, benches, light poles, etc. The sheets include a planof the preferred park concept, a QR code linked to theRiver North website, a narrative, and directions for use. The website will link to an audio link of what people in thecommunity are saying about the park and the preferredplan; and also give people the option to leave feedback.Intended to be a fun discovery, the laminated sheetsprovide an essential link between the community thatRiver North Park serves and the design team. In spring2016, this outreach strategy will be taught to students atsurrounding community centers and Jr. High Schools, whowill learn interview and audio editing skills. Meant as acapacity building strategy as well as a public outreachtool, the laminated sheets function to help keep RiverNorth Park a public process.
38th & Blake Station Transit OrientedDevelopment: Construction UpdateConstruction is underway and progress is being made onthe 38th and Blake Station TOD project! Work is onschedule to be completed this spring, in conjunction withthe opening of RTD's East Rail Line, for all three projectcomponents:
Construction of the 35th/36th Street PedestrianBridge: This new pedestrian and bicycle bridge willconnect Wazee with Blake Street over the railroadtracks between 35th and 36th streets.
Replacement of the Blake Street bridge over 38thStreet: The bridge is being redesigned for better

Visual Design Workshop RescheduledDue to poor weather conditions, CDOT's Visual DesignWorkshop on December 15th was cancelled. The newdate is January 11th. Additional details will be sent viaCDOT and the NDCC. Stay tuned.
Release of Final Environmental ImpactStatementThe Final EIS for I‐70 East will be released on January 15.A 30‐day public review period will follow along withpublic hearings on Feb 1, 2 and 3. The EIS will be availableon the I‐70 East website and in locations throughout GES.More information on the hearings and document reviewlocations will be sent via CDOT after the first of the year.

University of Colorado ‐ A Line A few updates as RTD prepares for the opening of the ALine in April 2016.
Platform bench install on the platform at the38th/Blake Station in Denver has been completed.Continued testing of the trains, signaling and safetysystems on the CU A Line between Union Stationand DIA is taking place.Construction of sidewalks in the plaza at the38th/Blake Station will begin soon.

Denver's Corridor of Opportunity The Corridor of Opportunity represents a nearly 23‐mile stretch between linking I‐70 and East Commuter line from Denver Union Station to Denver International Airport. The corridor is one of the most compelling commercial investment opportunities in the world, withthousands of developable acres. With nine commuter‐rail stations along RTD's East Line alone(slated to open in 2016), future plans for the area include transit‐oriented development withhousing, strategic locations for corporate headquarters and abundant options for additional openspace. The variety of opportunities, both existing and future, make this corridor a focal point for Denver'sfuture economy, with nearly 40,000 new jobs through new and expanded businesses and $2.6billion in economic impact expected over the next three decades, including $13.4 million annuallyin additional city revenue.

The North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative was founded by Mayor Michael B. Hancock onJanuary 25, 2013. Recognizing a convergence of upcoming projects in the Elyria‐Swansea and
Globeville neighborhoods, the Mayor identified an opportunity to energize a cornerstone of theCorridor of Opportunity and create an updated gateway to downtown by aligning individual efforts
into one coordinated vision. Kelly Leid manages the general oversight, planning, strategiccoordination, financing and implementation of the six primary projects.
