Greetings!
A lit t le over 35 years ago, a group of commit ted citizens joined forces to improve the area known as Nor th Flatbush Avenue. These commit ted citizens, along with the assistance of elected of ficials and city agencies, brought renewal to Flatbush Avenue beginning with the “Triangle Parks Commission” and the Nor th Flatbush Avenue Bet terment Commit tee that ultimately gave rise to the Nor th Flatbush Business Improvement District (NFBID). This corridor along Flatbush Avenue from Atlantic Avenue towards Prospect Park connects residential communities like Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Pacific Park and bustling Downtown to the peaceful Prospect Park and beyond with a slew of transpor tation links and the Avenue traveling from the Manhat tan Bridge to the bay.
Over the years, the members of the NFBID Board of Directors, which still includes many of the BID’s founders, have strived to create a cohesive identity for the BID that would be responsive to the changing demographics. The non-profit ’s budget is small by comparison, but dreams are big. The district is currently undergoing a $60 million infrastructure project updating utilit ies and improving pedestrian safety and continuing investments in our beloved “Triangle Parks”.
The BID continues to suppor t its members—residents, proper ty owners, and businesses — through liaison work with city agencies, supplemental sanitation services, beautification, promotional activities, holiday decorations, adver tising oppor tunities, and community events. You are encouraged to review this information and join us in suppor ting this vibrant community in Brooklyn.

The BID advocates for street and sidewalk improvements through writ ten proposals to government of ficials. Currently, the BID is working with the NYC Depar tment of Transpor tation and the Depar tment of Design and Construction on a $60 million capital streetscape and water service project. We intend to create enhanced public spaces with planters, way-finding and benches as a quick respite for shoppers.
NFBID launched the district ’s most recent beautification programming on Ear th Day 2016. Initially installing large-scale street planters full of blooming flowers and seasonal plantings at select intersections, the BID is expanding this project to include ongoing maintenance, additional street trees, and more locations. Sponsorship/par tnership oppor tunities are available.

NYC is a massive urban experience. So, we pitch-in and support the City’s resources with extra hands. All to make North Flatbush Avenue a pleasant place to shop, dine and experience.
Let us help you get the word out! The BID provides the Nor th Flatbush community with ongoing events, merchant workshops, speaking oppor tunities, street banner sponsorships, social media feeds, shopping guides and more. The BID works closely with local news outlets to spread the word about new initiatives and programs.
G R A F F I T I R E M O V A L
The Nor th Flatbush Avenue BID provides street sweeping services to assist businesses in maintaining a clean appearance along the twenty six-block commercial zone. Our maintenance vendor (StreetPlus) is at work 7 days a week and empties our corner receptacles for sanitation pick up.
The BID provides members with complimentary graf fiti removal services for main doors and gates to create a clean and more appealing sidewalk environment for shoppers and residents. Any district proper ty owner can contact our of fices for information on graf fiti removal.

Before their current home in Downtown Brooklyn, in the 1980s, the Brooklyn Tabernacle purchased the former Carlton Theatre at 292 Flatbush Avenue at 7th Avenue, converting the 1383-seat theatre into a church. After many years of declining membership, the church was revitalized as a non-denominational congregation, and became well known as
the home of the award-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. The church remained in this location until 2002.

Stirling Plaza (Carlton Ave/Park Place/Flatbush Ave) was named after William Alexander (1726 – 1783), known as Lord Stirling. He was an American Brigadier-General during the American Revolutionary War.
Lord Stirling commanded the 1st Maryland Regiment that fought at the Battle of Long Island. He lost the battle and was captured but his actions allowed General George Washington’s troops to escape.

An eco-friendly addition to the neighborhood! As the BID continues to press for streetscape upgrades, we have installed 21 Bigbelly trash cans in prime locations. These receptacles have space to install signage for your business’s shor t-term, seasonal or long-term promotional campaigns. Touch base to discuss your needs.
These uniforms are worn by the maintenance staf f in the Nor th Flatbush district. These wearables would include a full array of warm and cold weather pieces — shir ts, jackets, hats, etc. What a great way to reinforce your brand as our team diligently traverses the district keeping things tidy.
We install eye-catching banners on our historic street light poles along Nor th Flatbush — promoting a sense of unity and place in the neighborhood. These banners can include your logo and will be hung in high-traf fic areas near Barclays Center and Grand Army Plaza — see our transpor tation counts for daily reach. Discount pricing available for multiple banners — call our team to discuss.
Nor th Flatbush has piloted the installation of large scale sidewalk planters full of evergreen and brightly colored annuals. Currently there are 14 locations but will soon expand to over 50 locations throughout the district. Greening the district with more plants and trees helps create a hospitable environment and adds visual interest to the corridor. If you want to suppor t our ef for ts and receive acknowledgement with an in-planter plaque, let ’s chat.
