Monthly Highlights--Collaborative Lessons

Students in Mrs. Price’s Environmental Science class created a Wikispace page with information about a biome. The classes will then view their peers’ pages to learn and study from during the unit.

Many classes are creating “Facebook pages” for characters or historical figures, including characters from Romeo and Juliet and current political party figures, using a Google Presentation template for the “Facebook pages.”

Ms. Trocchia’s Fine Arts class created museum walking tours for Henri Rosseau using Voicethread.

Students in Mrs. McGowan’s AP Language classes explored current events related to the novel, Fahrenheit 451. They curated their topics using Scoop.it.

Monthly Highlights--Events in the Media Center

The Media Center purchased 6 Nook Simple Touch E-Readers. After parents and students signed the permission slip, all six Nooks were circulated to students. The e-readers contain a library of the latest and most popular young adult reads, and students are welcome to suggest titles for the e-reader library as well. There is now a wait list for the Nook, and the Media Center hopes to acquire more in the future to meet student demand.

The book club met twice in December to discuss Wendy Maas’s best selling novel, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. The book club selected the next novel, Room, by Emma Donohue for February meetings. We are inviting staff members to read the novel and join us for discussion at this meeting as well.
