“It’s Summertime summertime sum sum summertime”—but it is NOT time to “shut them books and throw ’em away!”

While the music composer, and famous Fenway Park Red Sox announcer, Sherm Feller, may have had good reason to want us to give up learning for the summer (so we could all watch baseball during the hazy lazy days of summer)—we all know that summer is the perfect time to take advantage of all the offerings at North Shore Community College! Come in from the heat and take some of our wonderful culinary classes in our state‑of‑the‑art industrial kitchen at our Middleton Site (at the North Shore Business Center). We will keep you cool and fed—whether you are learning Basic Culinary practices, the art of little bites “Tapas” or how to make the best ceviche from here to Boston in our Scales to Tails class! Now that we are all settled on our

Danvers Campus, please take a look at all the wonderful career classes we are offering in our new classrooms. Whether you are improving your computer skills, wanting to add expertise to your existing aesthetics license with workshops in Manual Lymphatic Massage or Body Exfoliation and Wrap, or become a Certified Nurse Assistant, we have opportunities for you! And not only are there courses for YOU—there are so many classes for your children! Whether they are in first grade or are in high school—send them to us for a week or the entire summer and they can take something different each week! If your teenagers have an interest in the health care field, send them to SCRUBS so they can experience what it is like to work with

patients! If they have an interest in becoming the next winner of junior master chef make sure they register for Pastry Making or our popular Secrets of a Restaurant Chef! There is something for everyone at NSCC! Whether you want classes on our Lynn or Danvers campus, our Middleton site, adults or children, career or enrichment, or a customized program for your workplace, we have it for you at NSCC. Call us at 978‑236‑1200 for more information.

HEALTH CAREERS

Emergency Medical TechnicianNorth Shore Community College’s Emergency Medical Technician course prepares students to be EMTs, medical providers trained to assess, treat and transport patients suffering from medical conditions or traumatic injury.

EMT training prepares students to evaluate scene safety, use tools and observational skills to assess patients for varied injuries and illnesses, provide care to stabilize and comfort, administer medications, and safely move and transport patients to hospitals.

EMT certification is required of all ambulance providers, but is also commonly a qualification to working in law enforcement and fire services. Additionally, many programs that train nurses, physician’s assistants, physical therapists and physicians require field experience in patient care before acceptance – EMT work in the field or in-hospital can provide this prerequisite experience in a meaningful and challenging way.

The North Shore Community College program is offered as a semester-long fall, spring or summer course, with an optional intensive section that meets three mornings/afternoons per week during the summer. Successful completion of the program earns students 9 college credits and eligibility to take the State and National exams for certification.

Summer classes are offered: From May 16 to August 15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00PM to 10:00PM on both the Danvers and Lynn Campus. From July 5 to August 15 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00AM to 2:00PM on the Danvers campus.

The cost for the 9-credit class is $1,701 ($189 per credit) for Massachusetts residents. For more information, please contact Cheryl Gebhardt at [email protected] or 978-762-4000 x6285.
