National Apology Tomorrow, February 13th marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations by the Australian Government, a powerful moment of healing in our nation’s history that must never be forgotten. As a school, we acknowledge and respect the traditional owners of the land our school stands on, the Wiradjuri People, and pay our respects to the elders both past and present. May we continue to work together to strengthen our relationship within our school community. Arriving at School on Time Arriving at school on time is very important for all students as it:

• ensures that students don’t miss out on the important learning activities scheduled early in the day when the students are most alert

• helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine

• gives students time to greet their friends before class and therefore,

• reduces the opportunity for classroom disruption.

Lateness is recorded as partial absence and must be explained by parents or carers in the same way as other forms of absence. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time to start the day!

affect how others feel. If you consider others and not just yourself, you will make people around you feel happy. Examples of considering others include, allowing others to join your game and to be first in line, and when playing sport making sure everyone gets a turn. Enclosed in this week’s newsletter is a brochure about PBL in our school. Please take the time to read the brochure, especially if you are new to our school. Chess Clubs Volunteers This year for our Chess Club, we are asking for parents or grandparents who would be interested in coming one lunchtime per week to help teach the students chess. The volunteers will be working with a teacher who coordinates the Chess Club. If you are interested, please contact Ms Bourne.

need to attend one of the meetings. Take your pick of which time suits. Regards, Paul Barlow Strings tutor 0434 537 976. Parent Teacher Information Evening/ Disco On Thursday 21st February the school will be hosting a disco.

• K-2 - 5.30pm – 6.30pm • 3-6 - 6.30pm - 7.45pm

During the evening most classroom teachers will be holding their Parent Information Evening, so that while students are at the disco, parents can be finding out more about their child’s classroom expectations and meeting the teacher. Kindergarten classes will be held on a different date as these will take longer than Years 1 to 6. Teachers will send out individual class notes with their times on them, however Year 1 and 2 will be held between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and Years 3-6 will be held between 6.30pm and 7.45pm. The cost of the disco will be $2 and snacks and drinks will be sold at the disco. Zone Cricket Trials On Wednesday Meli and Kieran will trial for the Griffith Zone Cricket team. We would like to wish them all the best for these trials.

Zone Tennis Trials This Thursday Jo will trial for the Griffith Zone tennis team. We would like to wish Jo goodluck for the tennis trials. Girls’ Uniform The new girls’ uniform is looking great. There will be a transition period of three years, so students can continue wearing the old style dress until they are ready for a new dress.

If you have purchased a new dress and would like to donate your old dress to the clothing pool that would be greatly appreciated. Once the dresses are fully implemented, we plan to donate our old uniforms to students overseas who do not have uniforms, so please do not throw any old dresses out.

Thank you

Library Bags It is a good idea for all students to use a library bag to help protect our books and keep track of them. Library bags are available from the school canteen @ $16.00. Other commercial or home-made library bags are also acceptable. Plastic bags are not acceptable. All Kindergarten, Year 1 & 2 students need a library bag to borrow from the school library.
