See you at the canteen: Nicole and Paulina GREEN MEAN MACHINE (GMM) NEWS The Mean Green Machine had a special guest last Friday when Mr Rowley from Griffith Re-cycling came to talk to us. He and Nathan had prepared a very informative slide show presentation. We learned lots of fascinating things about recycling and how important it is. Did you know that corrugated cardboard is actually made from three sheets of recycled paper?

Reece and Scott with their lettuce pots

Dads, we hope you liked your Father’s Day lettuce pots. Your child planted the seeds in August and has been caring for them since then. If you keep them well watered and in a sunny spot, you should be harvesting juicy lettuce leaves in a matter of weeks! The GMM did some recycling of their own recently, when Year 3 and 4 members got creative and made some attractive looking wind chimes and bird feeders out of old household and farmyard “odds and ends”.

These will be entered in the Griffith Cottage Gallery’s Exposed Art competition later his month. Music Count us in At 11:30am on Thursday 1st September, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 gathered to sing a song called ‘We’ve Got the Music’. We were joined by Federal Minister, Peter Garrett, John Foreman, Shannon Noll and 600 Sydney school students who performed it outside Sydney Town Hall. The band Uprising (as seen on Australia's Got Talent) performed it in Melbourne. Cricket legend Adam Gilchrist joined the stars of Wicked, the WA Police band and 1200 singers to perform on the steps of the Perth Concert Hall. 40 singers joined us from on board an Adelaide tram! All in all some 500,000 performers sang simultaneously around Australia at 11:30am. What a great event to be part of - Well done everybody! Check out www.musiccountusin.org.au Mr Pendlebury 2Y News The Concert.......... Eutalia – I feel a little nervous because there’s going to be a whole crowd. Wish me good luck. Aidan – I feel nervous because there will be lots of people watching us perform. Sam and I are Bashful.

Viliami – I feel happy for the concert because everyone is going to one item in each class. There are people who are going and it’s going to be fun doing the item. I am a dwarf and my name is Happy. Talina – I love my part because when I’m next to Abby I feel excited for both of us. I thing the boys in their item are going to be good. I feel nervous and surprised. Corben – The concert is going to be amazing because we will be singing and digging in the mine. Dannielle – I think that everyone will love us. If you make a mistake all of the parents will see. I am a bird with Jaali and Lara. Ashley and Ella is Snow White. Caleb – This Year GNPS is having a concert. We’re going to be brilliant, better and amazing!! There are 400 seats. Come quickly before there is no more tickets Ashley – Ella and I are Snow White. Damien – I feel happy that we are going to the concert. Elijah and I are Grumpy. Samuel – Having the concert coming has made me feel very nervous because of the very, very big crowd. I feel very worried about getting on the stage. We have to carry picks, shovels, wheel barrows and rocks. My friend Aidan and I are Bashful. We are the ones who lead everyone on and off the stage. Ella – The concert will be a bit scary because I’m Snow White and I get stage fright sometimes. The worst thing about practicing is when Mrs Young changed part of the song. The best thing about it is that I’m the character that I wanted to be. Marco – the concert is going to be great. We are practising a lot and Oscar and I are Dopey. Elijah – The concert is going to be fun because you can do anything you want and when we dress up we will feel awesome.

Jaali – When the concert is on I am going to be a bird with Lara and Danielle. We’re going to be embarrassed and we’re singing and whistling while you work and we’re cleaning the kitchen. Jaysah – I feel a little happy and scared at the time. Caleb and I are Sneezy. We have to collect the rocks. Noah – For the concert I think we are going to be the best. When we go to one side to another Sophie always said “1, 2, 3, and 4”. I am a Deer with Ola. We are washing the plates then I pass it to Sophie and Ola does the same thing on the other side of the stage. Sophie – I think the concert will be great because everyone will have their costume on and I hope the costumes will look great and lots of people will clap loudly. I feel really proud about the concert. I think that the boys are really nervous. Kyle and Connor are Doc. Oscar and Marco are Dopey. The boys in 2Y are dancing with shovels and picks.

2H News Mrs Higgins - 2H is working extremely hard. We love Smartboard activities and our favourite site is “Get Smart”. This week we have played the Treasure Ship personal pronoun game and the multiplication fish game. We would like to thank Mrs. Codemo for her fantastic sewing efforts.

Ryan - In 2H we have been putting a lot of effort into our concert practice. We are doing 3 songs, Dancing Queen, The Gambler and Staying alive. Luke – We are practising basketball. I shot at the goals the goals are really high. Matthew got 3 goals. Georgie – We are having lots of fun in 2H. We liked visiting Happy Harold and Being Brave. In Literacy we have different groups. Some are in Mrs Young’s, some in Mrs Higgins’ and some in Mrs Triggs’ class. In our class we are doing random acts of kindness and last week Sarah took the stone and she helped her mum. Sarah – In our class we have been learning about homophones. We do reading groups and math’s groups on Monday’, Tuesday and Wednesday. It is fun to do reading groups and math’s Groups with Mrs Higgins and Mrs Young

Trent Barrett Shield Grand Final 2011 On Wednesday 31st August, eleven Year 4 girls travelled to Wagga to play the Grand Final of the Trent Barrett Shield. They were Andria, Lilly-Belle, Emma, Rebecca, Isabelle, Mariah, Liliani, Lara, Maddison, Amy and Anna. The event was held at

Parramore Park and is in its 11th year of operation. During 2011, 193 schools (teams) were involved across our region, which shows that this is great for the development of both Rugby League and League Tag in our students. We were privileged to have Trent Barrett himself present on this day, it was a thrill to hear him speak and inspire the students. GNPS was in Pool 2 which meant we played Trinity, Harden first and we won with a score of 5 – nil. Then we played St Joseph’s, Leeton and won, 6 - 1. In the semi – final we were up against South Wagga who showed some very “scary” defence strategies. We remained focussed and maintained good sportspersonship to win this game 2-nil. It was interesting that we travelled all the way to Wagga to have to then play Griffith Public School in the Grand Final. They had a strong team with a fast and tricky centre player who tried her best to get past us, but was unable to score. Emma scored our only try of the match and was awarded “The player of the day”. This proved a very difficult decision as ALL girls showed that they too could have received this award. Lily-Belle Misiloi spoke on behalf of the team with Dean Whymark (National Development Officer – Riverina ARL), but was unusually shy when accepting the winners medal and shield. Andria was presented with a special medal for being the best player of the Grand Final. This is the first time this award has been presented. An outstanding achievement, congratulations Andria! These successes are not possible without the support and assistance from you, their wonderful parents. Thank you all, but a special mention to Lesley Girdler who gave up her lunch times to assist coaching. You should all be very proud of your girls, as I am, for their fine behaviour both on and off the field. I sign off looking forward to next year. Ms Maloni
