DIRECTOR’S CORNER

Hello Family,

We are off and running in 2015 with bigger and better accomplishments in focus. The HIVE has two major events this year (25th Anniversary, Fun Day) that I am looking forward to and hoping to see each and every one of you in attendance. We have had several events in January and although the weather has not been too cooperative on occasions we have been out in force.

1 Jan – Polar Bear/Chapter Breakfast (Pictures on the web) The morning started off a little brisk but everyone (7 bikes) was dressed for the occasion and ready to

go. Ken Trass has put together a short ride that lasted about an hour and some change and the traffic was relatively light considering most folks were still in recovery from the night before. About 5 miles away from our destination my stomach started to growl in an-ticipation of the hearty meal that was in store for us at the Conway’s. We pulled up in the driveway and got ourselves situated, but before going in George Hampton had to get his annual safety awareness speech from Bruce Hill about using a car tire as the rear tire on a wing. Hampton Conway came out to greet us a few minutes later and we made our way downstairs to where the rest of the HIVE members were hanging out. It was great seeing and fellowshipping with so many HIVE members and guest. After a few minutes of hugs and greetings and enjoying the setting with the fireplace going, it was time to enjoy the wonderful meal prepared by the Conway’s.

I want to send a BIG shout out to Hampton and ShaRon Conway for making the HIVE feel at home and as always providing us with an OUT-STANDING breakfast (Thank You).

4 Jan – Visit Chapter “I” Several of us met at the WAWA and we took a HIKE down to visit Chapter "I" at their new location. I thought we would need a gas stop by the time we got there but that was not the case (just kidding). We had a good time with the family and I also got the opportunity to introduce the HIVES 2015 Couple of The Year (Charles & Shirley Dorsey). We will have to take the golf clubs on the next visit and get 9 holes in after the gathering as their gathering place sits right off the golf course. 6 Jan – Chat-n-Chew (Famous Dave’s) Unfortunately our first Chat-n-Chew of the year was cancelled due to inclement weather.

8-10 Jan – Winter Thing (pictures on the web)

Toni and I had a great time! We arrived late on Friday but just in time to hear Chapter “B” being men-tioned for several awards and witness Hamp & ShaRon in their spiffy duds (pics on the web). The HIVE

was there in force and I want to thank everyone for all your time and support throughout the year. Your efforts were highly recognized and paid off in a BIG WAY in the awards that we received. We had over 20 members present (GO HIVE). Just to brag a little on the HIVE, here are some of the honors that the HIVE

walked away with.

Jimmy Colbert Memorial Award (Lillian Cruz) Yes family, our very own Queen Bee brought home the WELL DESERVED honor and it’s a testament to her pride and dedication to the HIVE and GWRRA. This is the most prestigious award given at Winter Thing.

Top Male High Mileage 28,962 (Ken Trass) This was pretty much a no brainer although his numbers were down slightly for the year he continues to put the competition in a distant second place. I guess in the future it will be changed to the (Ken Trass Award). Top Female High Mileage 21,999 (Sharon Simmons) Another pretty much no brainer and she too takes her yearly trips across the United States. WELL DE-SERVED!!!

Chapter Visitation 2,430pts (1st) Chapter "B" We put in alot of time on the road visiting our family members throughout the year and it paid off. We have a pret-ty aggressive schedule for this year and looking forward to bringing home this award next year again. We also were awarded $100.00 for our efforts (GO HIVE). Chapter High Mileage 145,164 (3rd place) Great showing family, lets strive to put a (1st) in that column this year. Chapter Top 10 (3rd Place)

District Director Award (ShaRon Conway) WELL DESERVED award to our Queen Bee for her enthusiasm and promotion of GWRRA. Also, everyone at the table got a clean bill of health from their ear doctors as (ShaRon won a basket) SO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!!!! We truly appreciate the both of you for everything you do in support of the HIVE. I don’t think the contents of the basket made it back home as that basket was opened at the table. 17 Jan - Chapter Gathering Toni and I arrived a little earlier than usual just to get settled and be able to sit down and enjoy breakfast before eve-ryone started to arrive and that worked for the most part. We had family from chapter’s I,J, and L show up in force which was pleasing to see. I tried to cut Spanky and Danny off from speaking (good luck) but that failed and they were able to put all chapters on notice that they participating in the Chapter of The Year competition. Well, the HIVE definitely has something to say about that and we will be taking no prisoners as we claim what is OURS!!! I was a little grumpy during 50/50 because they had told me earlier that the gift card machine was down and would not be available until the next day. We were in luck because I was able to give away some kick stand assist plates instead. 18 Jan - Visit Chapter "J" We rolled in on chapter “J” (all in SUV’s) as the weather was a little nasty but we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and gathering with the family. We had a couple stick their head in on the meeting as they were curious about just what was going on with all the vest and things coming towards the back room. They both showed their support for the military as the young lady was active duty. Chapter “J” almost had two new members (we tried) but they seemed to be on their way out the door. 25 Jan - Visit Chapter "H" A good time was had by all (Charles Simms, Lillian Cruz, Tony Bonner, Dennis & Charlie). I ended up being the only one riding that day and for a moment I considered jumping in with one of the drivers but I just needed that therapy ride and it was a good one. The gathering was excellent and several of their members are looking forward to attending our 25th Anniversary and Fun Day. They also put out that the Chapter B has registered in force for the Spaghetti Bingo pre-registrations (thank you).

ShaRon Conway and Steve Norby receive the Region "B" Director's Fun Pin

UPCOMING EVENTS; Chapter “B” 25th Anniversary Our Chapter 25th Anniversary is fast approaching (Mar 14th) and I am looking forward to a stellar HIVE representa-tion. We are limited to 80 tickets for the event so let’s get pre-registered and spread the word to friends, family, co-workers etc to come out for a joyful occasion. Tickets are moving fast so get your tickets NOW. The cost is $40.00 and the flyer is on the website. This event is by PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY, there will be no transactions at the door. HIVE Based on OUR significant accomplishments in 2014, and YOUR continued support in making Chapter "B" the best in Mar-yland, its time that its made official and recognized by others in bringing home the Chapter Of The Year award in 2015. My vision is the HIVE not only being recognized as the largest chapter in attendance at Winter Things 2016 but also being recognized as the 2015 Chapter Of The Year. We have other Chapters stating their claim but they don't swarm like the HIVE. Lets bring it home in 2015 family, the time is NOW! Everyone take care and hope to see you all at the next gathering on 21 Feb 2015.

RIDE SAFE AND “BEE” BLESSED!

AARON AND TONI CAIN DIRECTORS, CHAPTER B

Hampton ShaRon Conway check out their District Director’s Award. The Conway’s do so much for GWRRA and they were extremely deserving of this recognition. It would take many pages and a thousand stories to list their accomplishments and

contributions to GWRRA and Chapter B. CONGRATULATIONS HAMP AND SHARON!!!!!!!!

January 4, MD-I Gathering, The Riverview Restaurant at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course, 35794 Aviation Yacht Club Road, Mechanicsville, MD. It’s a new location for them. Departing from Wawa’s in Brandywine, MD. Attendees: Aaron Cain, Tony Bonner, Charles & Shirley Dorsey, Harry Dockery, Dennis Johnson, and I. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and the cost for the meal is only $10. A good time was had by all. Gerry Yager stepped down as Chapter Director and Keith and Wanda Johnson are the new Chapter Directors for MD-I. Congratulations to all!!! January 6, 2015, Chat-n-Chew was cancelled due to weather. January 8-11, WinterThing 2015, 25

th Anniversary, Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel,

10100 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD 21842. Those in attendance were Bruce Hill, Regi-na Smith, Hampton & ShaRon Conway, Charles & Shirley Dorsey, Aaron & Toni Cain, Ken & Deidra Trass, Charles & Gloria Simms, Harry & Margaret Dockery, Dennis Johnson, Charley Fogg, McAlister Bradford, Sharon Summers, Tony Bonner, and I. Various training seminars were held which many of us attended. This was the first year the District had guest from Ontario, Canada, 16 plus in attendance. The reason we had guest from Canada is because the Maryland District has visited Region K’s Rallies regularly. We have established a strong family bond as a result of those visits. Their visiting us is noteworthy because of the distance and weather they traversed. In my conversations with the Canadians, it was obvious how excited they were to be there. For many of them, this was the furthest south in the States they had been. Also for some, this was their first beach experience. This is a prime example of what can be accomplished via the visitation program…friends for fun, safety, and knowledge… I want to thank our Chapter members for all the interaction and love that was shown to them. The Friday night dance was a Red Carpet ready event with a photographer at the end of the runway taking pictures as you entered. Folks were dressed in formal wear and their favorite celebrity. During intermission at the dance, gold Oscars were presented (in keeping with the dance theme). Chapter B received various awards. Way to go Hive!!! January 18, MD-J Gathering, Bob Evans, Waugh Chapel Shopping Center, Gambrills, Mary-land. Departing from Rip’s (Bowie, MD) at Routes 301 & 197. January 25, MD-H Gathering, Golden Corral, Route 40, Aberdeen, MD. Departing from Rip’s at Routes 301 & 197. Bring your EZ Pass! REMINDER: Aaron and I are accepting nominations for “Member of the Year.” Please submit your nomi-nation for your fellow chapter member including why they should be considered for this award by January 31, 2015. The recipient will be announced at our 25

th Anniversary in 2015.

RIDER EDUCATION

Being Seen In the Night

Winter time has descended upon us and the light of day hides its face early. It is dark by 5:00p.m. Moving about our usual activities in the evening is a little more challenging in the night including riding a motorcycle. The night brings a totally different perspective. What you are familiar with during the day is not the same at night. As mo-torcycle riders, we face many risks while riding; other traffic, pedestrians, animals, weather and the road itself. These risks seem to grow to the size of Godzilla when it’s night time. We must enlighten others to our presence and engage them in the journey. Let the people, lions, tigers, bears, thumper, bambi, etc. know you are out there as

well.

Things to consider to make night riding liveable:

* Clothing with bright colors and extra reflective material or tape on your jacket, pants and helmet. Line

the side of rims with reflective tape, wheel tape or lights. The brighter the better.

* Maintain your windshield and helmet shield. Small scratches and nicks can produce light prisms making it difficult to see. Especially in the rain or when headlights reflect on it in a certain way. Keep them clean, pol-ished and free of debris.

* Equip your bike with bright headlights, LED lighting. Properly align them. * Try to avoid looking directly into bright headlights. It can temporarily blind you.

* Ride rested and attentive. Keep your daydreaming in check. Utilize the power of a clear mind.

Exercise good judgment, be seen and ride safe!

District Directors, Bruce Hill & Regina Smith

First I want to thank all of you for the cards and well wishes, and thoughts and Prayers. I’m still not absolutely sure what was going on. The important thing is that I’m out and trying and still re-covering. I’m slowly getting back to normal. That is if I was ever normal.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a happy celebration of the arrival of the New Year. Now as we look toward our activitiesWe do not have to attend 100% of the activities, but partic-ipation is

infectious. The more you do the more fun you can have and wish to join in more frequently.

We hope to see everyone at the first event of the year, WinterThing 2015, please come and bring a friend. Everyone is welcome, both GWRRA members and non-members alike. Bring all your friends. We have room at the table. If not we’ll shift a little and make room. Remember to bring your items for the hospitality room and the food bank. Listed below are dates of importance that are coming up rather quickly that you need to keep in mind and react to:

January 2 - Deadline for mailing WinterThing registration. (After Jan 2, you must bring it with you to WinterThing.)

January 8-10 - WinterThing 201 5 Ocean City, MD

January 11 - First District Meeting for 201 5, Sunday morning after WinterThing.

March 8 – District Bowl-A-thon the Same place as last year. More detail are forth-coming

Please keep these dates in mind when you have your Events/Ride Planning Meeting if you haven’t already. If you have, just add these dates and events. Remember, each Chapter should be looking to each other for support for your events. This helps to strengthen us as a family. Most of these events will be posted on the district web page also.

With the New Year upon us, we hope it will be as much fun as the past year. Here are some ac-tivities to help in that fun.
