The United States is divided into five regions. These regions are the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and the West.

The U.S. is broken up into fifty states. Each state has a capital city which is normally one of the biggest, most exciting cities within the state.

The Midwest: Wisconsin

As you know I live in the state of Wisconsin – the best of the fifty states; home of the Green Bay Packers and all things wonderful. Wisconsin is apart of the Midwest Region of the U.S.

There are many farms in Wisconsin and rural small towns, but there are big cities as well including our capital, Madison.

The Northeast

New York

The Northeast Region of the United States is the oldest region and varies from the largest city (New York City) to the smallest state (Rhode Island). This area is rich with history, culture and economic opportunities. There are eleven states in the Northeast. Six are known as the New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The other 5 states are known as the Middle Atlantic States: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., is also a part of the Northeast.

The Statue of Liberty is a huge sculpture that is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The formal name of the statue is "Liberty Enlightening the World." It pictures a woman who has escaping the chains of tyranny (the broken chains lie at her feet). Liberty's right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty.

The SouthwestThe southwest is home to the second largest state in the U.S. that being Texas. Texas borders are neighbor to the South, Mexico. The Rio Grand River separates the two countries.

Texas

Each state also has a state flag. The flag of Texas is pictured above. The colors of the flag; red, white and blue represent bravery, purity and loyalty.

The West

Yellowstone National Park is located in the state of Wyoming. There are geysers, water falls and hot springs with beauty beyond compare. There is also a lot of wildlife including bear, buffalo, wolves, coyotes, deer, big horn sheep, moose and many different species of birds that find safety in the park.

The west is the home of some of the most beautiful landscape in the country. There are mountains as touching the sky and meadows as far as the eye can see.

The Southeast Louisiana

In the U.S. each state has a quarter with things that are unique to its state on it. Louisiana’s is pictured to the right. On it there is a pelican, the state bird, as well as a trumpet symbolizing the love of music in Louisiana.

Louisiana celebrates Mardi Gras which is English translates to “Fat Tuesday”. There are parades and huge carnivals and celebrations for the day before the Lenten Season starts.
