1. Competitors are governed by the rules and regulations of S.O.B.H.D. 2. Entries will be divided into categories after the closing date. The Competition Committee reserves the right to combine, split, or delete/cancel classes or events at their discretion. 3. The competitors age will be taken as of March 6, 2015. 4. All competitors must present their current 2015 SOBHD registration cards to receive awards and must remain in costume for all award presentations. 5. Competitors dance in inverse order of entry. Any competitor not on hand when his/her event is called will forfeit his/her entry in that event. 6. All fees are non-refundable. 7. In the event that a class combines dancers under 16 yrs of age with danc- ers 16 yrs & over; prize money for the class will be set as for 16 yrs & over. Prize Money will be awarded to Premier dancers as follows: 1 st - $50, 2 nd - $45, 3 rd - $40, 4 th , 5 th & 6 th - $35 8.. No one other than the Competition Committee shall communicate with the judges. 9. Dancers must fill-in for Reels as required. 10. Pre-Premier status changes must be reported to the Competition Commit- tee (780) 467-2973 or email [email protected] before March 1, 2015. 11. Perpetual trophies are the property of E.H.D.A. and must be returned eleven months after the competition. Winners are responsible for name engraving and care of the trophy. Repairs, other than normal maintenance will be the responsibility of the dancer or parent/guardian.. Any damage should be reported to the competition committee well in advance of the next year’s event. 12.. Protests must be in writing, signed and handed to the Competition Committee before the end of the competition with a $25.00 fee. This workshop is an approved CPD session for all SOBHD Adjudicators. Professionals are welcome to attend any session.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

Parents and siblings are NOT allowed in the studios during the workshop

All dancers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time

Water only allowed in studios

Proper dance attire and shoes required

Please bring practice swords.

The class limit for each session is 30 dancers. Priority will be given to EHDA dancers until February 14, 2015, at which time the remaining spots will be

open to all dancers based on a first come first serve basis.

EHDA Marvelous March Workshop will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at

Step by Step School of Dance, 449 Sioux Road, Sherwood Park

This workshop is free for EHDA members holding a current 2014/2015 EHDA Membership. Please provide your membership number during registration.

The fees for non-EHDA dancers are as follows: Primary—$25.00 Beginner, Novice & Intermediate—$40.00 Premier—$65.00

Refunds for both EHDA and non-EHDA dancers will ONLY be considered in cases of illness (if accompanied by a doctor’s note) or at the discretion of the EHDA workshop organizers.

Shendl was born and raised in Ayr, Scotland where she studied highland dance under world- renowned teachers May Falconer, Willie Cuthbertson and Elspeth Strathearn. She is a former Scottish Champion and 1st runner up in the World Championship. As a teacher herself, Shendl’s achievements have included training the 2004 Adult World Champion.

She is a Member of the World Wide Judges’ Panel of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing; a Fellow member and Examiner with the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance. After serving as Chairman for 10 years, Shendl currently holds the position of President of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing, the world governing body.

Shendl continues to teach, adjudicate and conduct workshops throughout Scotland, Canada, United States, Australia and South Africa. After spending 27 years as a Head Teacher, 3 years as a Quality Improvement Officer and 8 years as an associate government inspector of schools working with Education Scotland, Shendl has taken early retirement.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jacques did most of his dance training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School where he graduated from their Professional Division Program in 1988. He went on to tour with the company in the production of “The Nutcracker“ which toured across Canada and “Romeo and Juliet” which toured the former Soviet Union. He was also invited back to dance in the school’s 25th Anniversary Production of “Don Q”. Jacques has also performed with and choreographed for “Le Cercle Moliere”, a French Theatre Company and danced and toured extensively with L’ensemble Folklorique de la Riviere-Rouge, both from Winnipeg. His folk dancing has taken him around the globe. Travelling to Ivory Coast-Africa, Istanbul-Turkey, France, Spain, USA and across Canada to participate in several International Dance Festivals. After 4 years of Dancing in Edmonton he went back to Winnipeg to study with the RWB and receive his teaching qualifications in 1996.

For the past 17 years, Jacques has been teaching for The Edmonton School of Ballet and on his 10th year with Step by Step in Sherwood Park. He has also taught for The Strathcona School of Highland Dance with Kelly Abrahart and Bill Troock. He helped choreograph the opening cere-monies for the Canadian 2000 Championship Series of Highland Dancing, held in Edmonton where the New Dress Alberta Tartan was presented to the whole world. He has worked with the Edmonton Opera, restaging “Aida’s” dance section and danced in “La Traviata

Jacques has trained in all three major ballet syllabi, Vaganova, R.A.D. and Cecchetti. Teaches Ballet, Pas de Deux, Repertoire and has also taught Jazz and Step Dancing. He is an examiner for the Edmonton School of Ballet “Junior Grades” program and enjoys adjudicating at dance festivals and competitions.

From April – July 2010, Jacques spent 4 months studying and training in the UK with Kate Simmons and Gillian Hurst and has successfully pasted his Master Enrico Cecchetti Diploma and his Fellowship exams.

Ann Milne’s passion for dance has lead her around the entire world. This love started at the very young age of 3, with a 20 year competitive career yielding: the Australasian and Champion of Champions, 13 Ontario, 12 Canadian and 4 World Championship titles in Highland Dance. Ann also has extensive training in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap and Ballroom.

Professionally, Ann has her full teaching Fellowship with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and is an Examiner and lifetime member of BATD. She is also an active member of the Judges panel for the SOBHD. Ann continues to travel across North & South America, Scotland, Australia, and Japan teaching and adjudicating.

After her competitive career, Ann accepted the position of Director of Dance at The College of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts of Canada based in Summerside, PEI. Furthering her profession-al dance qualifications, Ann became a certified Ballet teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) , teaching Highland, Ballet and Jazz.

Ann was the Artistic Director of Celtic Accent, performing across North America, Britain, produc-ing several videos, a BBC recording and was featured in CBC’s Adrienne Clarkson Presents.

For over 20 years, Ann has owned and operated her own dance schools in PEI, Toronto and Owen Sound. Her students have gone on to attend dance at the National Ballet School of Canada, Quinte Ballet School of Canada, the Randolph Academy of Performing Arts (Toronto), York University, and Markham Performing Arts Secondary School. Many of her Highland stu-dents have followed in her footsteps, winning the Ontario’s, Canadian’s and North American Championships as well as the BATD North American Scholarship for theory and Choreography.

Ann has also produced several dance shows including Dancing for Life (2009), Dancing for Life…Because You Can (2010), which combined raised over $80,000 for many local charities.

Nadiene Gibney began her highland and ballet dance training at the age of 3, with Gladys Forrest-er. By age 9, she won her first highland Championship and was also accepted to the full time program at Canada’s National Ballet School.

After 4 years at the National Ballet School, Nadiene went to an Arts high school to further explore other forms of dance including modern and jazz, where she was the recipient of the several dance awards.

Upon graduation from high school, Nadiene spent 3 years in the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School, from which she graduated with Honours. Nadiene has been teaching ballet for 19 years, and holds her Cecchetti Licentiate. She has been Director of Ballet at prestigious studios in Ontario, and has taught at Canada’s National Ballet School and American Academy of Ballet in New York city.

She has had her own highland studio for 13 years and has trained Ontario and Canadian Champi-ons, as well as World Championship finalists. She has performed both locally and internationally with the companies Celtic Accent and the Scottish Dance Company of Canada. She was also in the production “Needfire”, in Toronto, at the Princess of Wales theatre.

Nadiene enjoys teaching both ballet and highland throughout North America and has been on the

SOBHD judges panel since 2004.
