It is that time when people from all parts of the country visit friends, families and also go on holiday. It is a time for families to get together and reflect on the year gone by and celebrate the New Year. It is also time for prayers and happiness.
While Christmas is a time of joy and happiness it may also be a time of sadness, anguish and despair. Accidents on our roads, unwarranted crime and alcohol abuse could steal our joy. It all depends on our behaviour, attitude and conduct.
Mogalakwena Municipality is known as the place of legends, the home of peace, loving people and hospitality. Road accidents owing to reckless and negligent driving are the root causes of our sadness and result in injuries and death of our loved ones. Abusing liquor and drug substances are the main contributory factors.
We request pedestrians to be careful when moving along the road, during the night they must wear bright clothes so that they can be seen by motorists.
Parents should take care of their children and should not allow them to play close to the main roads or cross the roads alone during this busy
time of the year.To the class of 2012, I am hopeful that you will make us proud
by passing with flying colors. My very best wishes go to those who are sick at home or in
hospital this Christmas and I wish you a speedy recovery. As we enter into the festive season, let us be mindful of the
responsibilities entrusted upon us, in the spirit of Christmas to care for the needy and the underprivileged by sharing with them what we
can, both materially and spiritually As the Mayor, let me on behalf of the Mogalakwena
Municipal Council wish all our residents, tourists and those who will be traveling to and from our municipal area, the best Merry
Christmas and all the love and blessings

2012 is one of those years that were filled with remarkable activities. Our municipality, just like our neighbouring municipality, changed political heads less than a year after being voted into office; all in the name of fast-tracking service delivery.
As municipality we have hosted more than five national ministers and our president this year, all of them were on service delivery missions.
We hosted MECs of LEDET, Agriculture, Education, Sports Arts and Culture as well as the MEC of Health. Each of them on a developmental mission. Our strategic planning session resolved to change the vision of this municipality to “Build a vibrant city and become the energy hub of Africa”.
In sports we celebrated with one of the local soccer teams, Seleka Callies, as they pummeled their competitors and gained promotion into the Vodacom league.
We await Grade 12 results with great optimism. As we enjoy different fiestas, please let us not miss the true
meaning of Christmas. Christmas must always be celebrated as the time to give and rejoice. The time pervaded with the spirit of togetherness and goodwill.
We must always remember that there is a monster called HIV/AIDS on the rampage. Let’s not allow the festive mood to fool us and make us ignore this monster.
Christmas holidays are also days of traffic congestion as our people will be going on holidays and pilgrimages. Our request is that anyone who is behind the steering wheel must be there soberly. That seat has been declared a no-drinking area. So, don’t drink and drive.
The flip-side of don’t drink and drive is don’t drink and walk on the road. Arrive Alive! Lephalale municipality has planned to start
the festive season by having an interdenomina-tional prayer day for road safety and wage war against substance and drug abuse.
Enjoy Christmas with your friends and families. Make New Year resolutions and get into next year with rejuvenated spirit.

Good news for Limpopo learners is that the Department of Education announced on Saturday that it met all its deadlines for the delivery of textbooks in the province. Minister Angie Motshekga earlier promised that the problems encountered in Limpopo in the four grades that were phasing in the new curriculum will not happen again in 2013. The department made headlines earlier in 2012 after it emerged it had failed to deliver study material for grades 4, 5, 6 and 11. Motshega reportedly admitted that 2012 was a challenging year for her department and promised to improve in 2013.
The Department of Basic Education has also implemented a high tech system that allows for every step of the delivery process to be tracked in real time.
“The freight management report (FMR) that our service provider, UTI, will be supplying us can and will be used to verify the delivery details of each school, whilst we will also receive a disc with images that can be used to retrieve individual images of delivery signatures which will be verified. The Department will be loading information on this progress on our website on a weekly basis so as to ensure that we are transparent”, the Minister concluded.
In another first for textbook delivery in South Africa, the Department has established a website which allows the public to track deliveries to schools in Limpopo, www.schoolmaster.org.za.

Elke jaar is ‘n besige jaar in ‘n koerantkantoor. Vir Noordelike Nuus het die jaar afgeskop met baie drama in die lewens van twee baie spesiale dogtertjies, Pippie en Mikayla. Maar hulle was nie die enigste nuusmakers vir 2012 nie. Ons burgemeesters het vir baie opwinding gesorg, renosters is onverpoosd deur die jaar afgemaai en stakers het gesorg dat daar gereeld vlamme op ons voorblaaie pryk. Hier volg ‘n opsomming van die jaar se hoogtepunte en laagtepunte:
1 Januarie – Klein Isabella Kruger (Pippie) oorleef haar eerste dag in ICU in die Garden City Kliniek in Brixton, Johannesburg waar sy behandel word vir 3de graadse brandwonde op 80% van haar lyfie. Pippie het oujaarsaand op die plaas Friesland net buite Lephalale gebrand toe ‘n bottel vuuraansteekmiddel in haar pa, Erwin Kruger, se hande ontplof het.
11 January – Bob Naidoo receives a permanent appointment as Lephalale municipality’s municipal manager. This despite of Mayor Johanna Mojela’s objections and her refusal to sign his contract.
