The year and season 2013 will be remembered as one of manychallenges and great change for the Northern Territory FootballClub, as we completed our 5th year of competition on the backof the previous 2 years of appearing in the Senior Grand Final finishing 7th.

Although this is not the result all involved with the club were hoping or planning for, we did have some fantastic highlightsacross the season with outstanding wins against 3 x AFL Clubs(Brisbane,Gold Coast and Sydney) and seven (7) of our Championsrepresent at State Level .There were a number of superb personalachievements during the year that were recognised through the NEAFL and Thunder Awards. The names and details are providedlater in this Annual Report. Congratulations to all award recipients.

In line with our objectives, the NTFC gave opportunities to 136 players from across 15 different locations to represent our clubat Seniors, 18’s, 16’s and 15’s which is an amazing amount of talent that is being exposed to the high performance environmentof NT Thunder, a fact all associated with the club should be extremely proud of at all times . I would like to thank every one of those 136 players for making the commitment to represent the NTFCin 2013, and acknowledge the support these players have had from their families allowing them to do what they love.

Our achievements on and off the field are only possible due to the contributions of so many who have participated in the many areas of activity required to support a football club playing in an interstatecompetition. Our people including players, volunteers, administration staff, coaches, AFLNT staff, support staff, trainers and medical staff can be very proud of the contribution each has made to ourclub, the game of AFL and the community. I thank all of you for the over and above effortsand sacrifices you have made every day to enable the club to continually grow and develop.

The costs associated with supporting a team at the professional level to participate in theNEAFL are high as detailed in this Annual Report. Participation in this competition and theopportunities and pathways for our local players are only possible due to the tremendous support we receive from our partners.

NTFC CEO Jarred Ilett

2013 presented a year of challenge and change with thedeparture of experienced personnel, major injuries to keyposition players and an ambitious effort to provide as manyopportunities for Territory players far and wide. The obstacles of distance were felt more this year with anunprecedented 34% of the playing group based outside ofDarwin. Despite the above challenges we continue to support, develop and achieve significant milestones across all coreobjectives and KPI’s as highlighted throughout this report.

Although a tough year, a few stand out performances need to be highlighted. Darren ‘Boof’ Ewing kicked 94 goals and claimed the Ray Hughson medal for the third time(2009, 2011 & 2013), taking his career tally for NT Thunder to 439 goals at an average of 4.43goals a game. His service to the club has been outstanding over five years finishing the seasonon 99 games and continues to be the most prolific goal kicker in the league.Cameron Ilett continues to lead from the front with captaincy honours for the State team, runnerup in the Grogan medal and named in the NEAFL team of the year.Bayden Ngalkin’s home town of Hermannsburg is 131km southwest of Alice Springs. In his debutyear he achieved 13 games with NT Thunder on top of a ‘Best on Ground’ performance on the MCG during the Footy Means business program. His performances also earned an invite to the AFL State Screening session in preparation for the 2013 draft. Chris Dunne quietly goes about his business with no fuss or frills however has been a consistentcontributor for the club over the last two years in front of goal. His elite running ability has led to a career high achievement of 54 goals this year.

Once again the Northern Territory Football Club is privileged and humbled by the passionate supportfrom our volunteers, support staff and members. The regularity of familiar faces at every training session and every game is invaluable. It is the time and commitment by these people that generatesa friendly and professional environment at our club. Finally, the support, contribution and investment by our avid sponsors provide the blood line for theclub. What has been a tough and challenging year in the business world with a change of Government, both locally and nationally has impacted the local economy. Despite these significant events, the clubcontinues to receive unwavering support from our loyal sponsors.

It is the belief in the club, the concept and the results that continue to drive our people at NT Thunder.Lessons learned through a year of change and challenge have made us wiser and more determined to tackle 2014.

DANIEL ARCHER 2013 HEAD COACH

Many positives resulted from the 2013 season, however in the cut throat business that is football the bottom line is that we finished the season in a disappointing 7th position. Many factors contributed to this result that will be explored further in this report, however the positive that must not be overlooked is that the club continued to remain true to its values and beliefs. In particular, from a football perspective further was contributed towards the following:

• Added further to the NT Thunder brand in its aim to become the highest profile club outside of the AFL that generates greater football interest, promotes growth, development, participation and support for Australian Rules Football within the Territory.• Maintained and promoted a high performance club based around home grown Territory talent.• Assisted in further inspiring young Territorians to participate in sport in order to contribute to improved education, employment, training, health, leadership and wellbeing in Indigenous communities across the Northern Territory.• Continued to provide and look to improve the pathway for Territorian players to the elite AFL competition.• Aimed at providing a quality environment that contributed to the development of local coaches, umpires, administrators and medical staff.

Numbers at a Glance (Statistics are based on end of seasons data):

Ladder Position: 7th Games Win/Loss: 9/9 Players Used: 44 Indigenous % List: 52% Local % List: 78% Darwin Based: 28 Alice Springs Based: 8 Remote Based: 7 Brisbane Based: 1

2013 Leadership Group Leadership is the most important quality of any environment. It lays the platform for the attitude andeffort of those within. Again this year as a group we worked towards evolving and maturing the BROTHERHOOD to suit the 2013 list.

Darwin – Cameron Ilett (Captain), Bradley Vassal, Aaron Motlop, Kenrick Tyrrell, Jack LawlerRemote – Austin Wonaeamirri Alice Springs – Matthew Rosier, Jayden Prior

XAVIER CLARKE 2014 HEAD COACH

My appointment as Head coach at NT Thunder is an exciting opportunity for meto help develop Territory football. I want to see more Territory boys at the elite levelwho have come through the Thunder program and most importantly, I want to see NT Thunder become a successful team again.

The Thunder program plays a vital role in the NT communities, through education, health, employment and leadership. Every individual will be given the best opportunityto develop into both great players, and great leaders. This can only be built through respect, honesty and hard work, in a system that both challenges and supports theperson, and the player.

There will be many challenges, as in any coaching role. We, as a team need to havefull trust in each individual to play their role. I know I will have great support from myassistant coaches and the NT Thunder Board.
