Emergency Services Encampment this sum-mer was a fantastic experience. Before I left

for this 9 day long endeavor, I was completelyunaware as to what a ground team was. Ibarely understood what the Emergency Ser-

vices division of CAP was. My only experiences had beenat squadron, and a few wing activities. After going to thisencampment though, my eyes were opened to all of theamazing opportunities that cadets have inEmergency Services.

This encampment was geared com-pletely towards getting all of the studentstheir ground team qualification. The trainingincluded extensive first-aid, navigation, compass work, andmethods of searching for ELT’s (Emergency Locator

Transmitters) which are used in aircraft. It was truly an experience, having no showers, no

running water, and having to cook your own food for 9days. I wouldn’t have wanted it any differently, however.

The friendships that I made at that en-campment will last a lifetime. Through thepeople I met at that encampment, I’vebeen able to instruct at training classes,as well deploy on a recent mission in El-

lensburg. I highly recommend to anyone who wants tohave a new experience in CAP, to next year’s Emergency

Services Academy.c/MSgt Tyler Jensen

the crowd really got excited when the national anthem wasfinishing, I can see how it would be hard for quarterback’sto call their plays when it gets that loud”.

This event marks the end of a verybusy and successful color guard/

honor guard season for our cadets. After winning the Washington stateColor Guard championship lastMarch, the team has escorted aU.S. Congressman, Army Generaland a host of other dignitaries atparades, professional baseballsgames, soccer tournaments, etc.

We should be proud of our cadetsas they have represented our squadron and the Washington Wingvery well over the last 6 months.

Editor’s note...We were fortunate tohave this color guard story picked up by the national CAP News. It appeared online and on page 3 of the CAP News.

Color Guard try-outs for the 2005 team will be sched- uled sometime late fall/early winter. If you are inter- ested in trying out, contact 1st Lieutenant Jensen.

Seattle, WA– In front of a sell-out crowd of 66,709,the Northshore Squadron’s Color Guard Team, presentedthe colors at the Seattle Seahawks home opener vs. theSan Francisco 49ers.

“The Seahawks Football team is

doing a great job of reaching out toinclude thecommunitythese days”says 1st Lieu-tenant BarbaraJensen. “Theytreated us likeroyalty and weenjoyed pro-viding themwith the ser-vice”.

The team arrived at the stadium at10:00 AM for a 1:00 performance andhad two hours to practice. Once we allcame out of the tunnel 10 minutes be-fore performing, saw and heard the crowdnoise, I think the cadets were glad to havepracticed in the peace and quiet of anempty stadium.

“It was exciting, Qwest field is very big and very loud”said c/MSgt Tyler Jensen, the Color Guard Team Com-mander. “I had to really yell my formation commands as
