First Nations of British Columbia Fast Facts about Northern BC The area served by Northern Health lies roughly between 53 and 60 degrees north latitude and covers 617, 271 square kilometers. This region accounts for nearly two- thirds of the land area of British Columbia: an area the size of France. Local Health Areas (LHAs) are administrative units used by the province of British Columbia to facilitate the planning and delivery of health and other services. Aboriginal People and Communities in Northern BC Approximately 17.5 % of northerners (or about 52,000 persons) identified themselves as Aboriginal (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) during the last Canadian Census in 2006. There are 54 First Nations Bands located in northern BC. Many of these bands have more than one community under their governance. The last census (2006) indicated that there were more than 80 inhabited First Nations communities in northern BC. The table below lists the numerous First Nations Bands in the North. Fast Facts about Northern BCThe area served by Northern Health lies roughly between 53 and 60 degrees northlatitude and covers 617, 271 square kilometers. This region accounts for nearly two-thirds of the land area of British Columbia: an area the size of France. Local Health Areas (LHAs) are administrative units used by the province of BritishColumbia to facilitate the planning and delivery of health and other services.

Aboriginal People and Communities in Northern BCApproximately 17.5 % of northerners (or about 52,000 persons) identified themselvesas Aboriginal (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) during the last Canadian Census in 2006.

There are 54 First Nations Bands located in northern BC. Many of these bands havemore than one community under their governance. The last census (2006) indicated thatthere were more than 80 inhabited First Nations communities in northern BC.

The table below lists the numerous First Nations Bands in the North. We have includedthe INAC identification numbers for clarification purposes as there is often confusion.
