DUAL CREDIT GUIDELINES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Welcome to Dual Credit at Northwest Missouri State University. We are happy to have you as a member of our student body and are confident that you will find your Dual Credit experience to be both challenging and fulfilling.

BENEFITS

As a Dual Credit student through Northwest Missouri State University, you are entitled to specific benefits. The benefits include:

■■ Earning college credit while still in high school;

■■ A discounted tuition rate;

■■ Textbooks that are provided at no cost;

■■ Receiving a Bearcat Card*, which gives you access to the library and athletic events;

■■ Receiving your own Northwest email account;

■■ Access to your online degree audit, showing how your Dual Credit classes will apply to a degree at Northwest.

*You may obtain your Bearcat Card by visiting the I.D. Office on Northwest’s campus, on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union.

LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS

CatPAWSCatPAWS, our student computer system, is available on the Resources tab at the top of www.nwmissouri.edu. Your User ID# is provided on your class schedule printout. Your initial PIN is your date of birth (MMDDYY) or the last six digits of your User ID#. If you have accessed CatPAWS previously, you may use the hint question to reset your PIN if you cannot remember it.

EmailTo obtain your Northwest email username and password, log in to CatPAWS and select Retrieve Initial Northwest Email Username and Password from the Personal Information menu. You can then access your Northwest email by going to www.nwmissouri.edu and selecting Student Email from the Resources tab at the top of the page.

eCompanionIf you are enrolled in a Dual Credit course being offered with eCompanion, login instructions will be sent to your Northwest email account. Your email (S…) will be your eCompanion User ID, and your User ID# (919…) will be the eCompanion Password. eCompanion can be accessed via the Resources tab at the top of www.nwmissouri.edu.

STUDENT POLICIES

As a Dual Credit student, you are required to follow the same policies and guidelines as on-campus students. For additional information on this, visit www.nwmissouri.edu/studentaffairs.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE

The fee for Dual Credit courses is set each academic year and is a discounted rate of the standard fees for in-state students.

Bills will be sent to your home address. Payment plans are available.

To make special arrangements for payment, call the Bursar’s Office at 660.562.1583.

You may not enroll for subsequent trimesters until all accounts are paid in full. No copies of transcripts will be released or further enrollments confirmed if any financial obligations are outstanding.

DROP VS. WITHDRAWAL

You may drop or withdraw from dual credit courses in which you are enrolled before the two-thirds point of any trimester or until Christmas break for year-long courses. Withdrawals (where all Northwest dual credit classes are dropped) must be initiated through the Advisement Assistance and Orientation Office at 660.562.1695 or advise@nwmissouri.edu. All tuition charges will be removed and a $50 processing fee will be assessed. If you withdraw, a “W” grade will be recorded on your Northwest transcript for each course.

If you drop a course but remain enrolled in at least one course, the tuition will be removed and the processing fee will not be assessed for the dropped course. To drop a dual credit course, contact the Office of Admissions at 660.562.1428. Students wishing to add, drop or withdraw from classes after the deadline must follow the appeals process as outlined in the University’s Undergraduate Academic Catalog, available on the Northwest website, www.nwmissouri.edu/academics/catalog.

TRANSCRIPTS/TRANSFERABILITY

Grades and credit hours will be recorded on your Northwest transcript and included in your cumulative GPA.

For students enrolling at Northwest after high school graduation, Northwest agrees to apply Dual Credit courses to any baccalaureate degree or certificate program.

Northwest has adopted the Policy Guidelines for the Delivery and Transferability of Credit obtained in Dual Credit Programs Offered in High Schools, dated June 10, 1999, as its Dual Credit policy. To see these guidelines visit www.dhe.mo.gov/files/policies/dualcreditpolicy.pdf.

Northwest will not limit the number of Dual Credit courses accepted in transfer from any Missouri higher education institution in compliance with the 1999 CBHE Dual Credit Policy Guidelines. This Dual Credit transfer policy is consistent with Northwest’s articulated transfer agreements with other institutions.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

If you plan to enroll at Northwest following your high school graduation, you must complete the first-time freshman application. You will be contacted if we need additional items to process your application. If you have questions about how a Dual Credit course would apply to a degree at Northwest, contact the Advisement Assistance and Orientation Office at 660.562.1695 or advise@nwmissouri.edu.

If you plan to enroll at a college other than Northwest following your high school graduation, contact that college to learn its major course requirements, general education course requirements and the transferability of Northwest coursework. Some majors have directed general education requirements or specific courses that students must take. Students should verify with the college of their choice that the Dual Credit course will fulfill degree requirements.
