INFORMATION PROVIDE BY KRISTINA SMITH Pros and Cons of Wix vs. Wordpress for NWSPNC Website

The Wix platform was created by a team of designers and is easy to navigate and their templates are beautiful and also totally editable. With the Wordpress platform once you choose a template, there are restrictions on adding items beyond the template. You can add plug ins but even then you are limited on how the plug in will look and fit into the template/site. (Most of the issues are how the borders will look and placement of the content to look exactly how you want it to look). COST ANALYSIS: The cost to change to Wix: Currently you pay $180 per year for hosting. Wix is slightly higher at about $204 and could go a bit higher if more server space is needed as documents keep being added. The Cons of switching to wix would be the tedious job of uploading all the archived NWSPNC agendas/minutes/documents to a new Wix site. It is time consuming so that would require paying for the labor which would probably be around $250.00 in addition to the cost of creating the new wix site which would run about $250. So changing to wix would mean voting on a total cost of about $704. An SSL certificate is included in the Wix Platform (SSL is to have the site show as SECURE). If we continue using Wordpress but upgrade to a newer template (which is becoming necessary in order to get security upgrades), we can move the archived files more easily into the new wordpress server on GoDaddy (which is the hosting company I suggest). They have a built in feature that allows you to migrate all the files from the old server into their servers. Hosting runs about the same as Wix about $200 per year. Creating the new suite would cost labor of about $250. So this upgrade would have a total cost of about $450. There is also the cost of an SSL certificate at around $200 which I believe you already approved but that upgrade hasn't been completed yet because we can't do that on the old site). Total cost to upgrade to Wordpress on GoDaddy is about $650.00 If we do nothing: If we leave the site the way it is, hosted on current server, we run into an issue of not being able to add an SSL certificate to this old server so the site will remain UNSECURE. Some people will get a security alert when trying to access the site before the site actually opens for them which does not reflect well on the NC. Samples of Websites: Here is a sample of how the new wordpress template could look: http://wg2.152.myftpupload.com/ Here are samples of Wix sites that neighborhood councils and the budget advocates are using: http://www.budgetadvocates.com/ (sample of their new website that I'm currently creating) https://www.hermonneighborhoodcouncil.org/ https://www.echoparknc.com/ https://www.losfelizhelps.org/
