HUMAN GENOCIDE? Not On Our WatchBY DON CAMPBELL

The SituationSo many of us are shuttered, closed up and kept in the dark when

it comes to the horrors that our fellow humans face in countries and

continents not so far from our own homes. If we were watching a film,

the vast majority of us who choose to turn our backs to the suffering

of children, would be villainized and rightly so because once you know

the truth, deciding to not act, makes you part of the problem and not

part of the solution.

I had the pleasure of speaking with a pair of remarkable women

who have chosen to encourage people into positive action. What they

showed me was a brazen and enlightening truth that made me look at

myself and ask whether my priorities were in the right place.

NOT ON OUR WATCH - A Book That Opened Eyes

The NOT ON OUR WATCH PROJECT is a powerful humanitarian

mission aimed at ending mass atrocities around the world. Utilizing

the influence of artists, activists and cultural leaders they provide

lifesaving humanitarian

assistance and protection for

those who are vulnerable,

marginalized and displaced.

Founded by A-List celebrities

Don Cheadle, George Clooney,

Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, David

Pressman and Hollywood Film

Producer Jerry Weintraub,

Not On Our Watch encourage

governments and those in power

to take immediate action to

protect those in need, to stop

mass atrocities and giving a much

needed voice to the victims of

this crimes.

However, ending the horror

of war crimes victims, the

starvation of entire nations

and the unnecessary deaths of

children is not the responsibility

of world famous actors or human

rights activists it belongs to each

of us at every level of society.

When we look at celebrities

we imagine that they live in a

different world to us and are able

to create much more significant

change than we are, but this is

not true. And the message that

everyone can make an important

difference to someone’s life has

been brought to us by Heloise

Agelou and Prudence McNellis.

“I really wanted to continue

doing some charity work as I

Not On Our Watch focuses global attention and resources towards ending mass atrocities around the world. Its most recent efforts have included funding the implementation of The Satellite Sentinal Project—an innovative early-warning satellite monitoring system—to draw widespread and meaningful notice to Sudan and Southern Sudan, supporting schools in the Darfur-Chad region, supporting emergency relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, and funding medical and educational efforts in the Burma region.

artists. To finish the day there

will be an evening party at The

Brompton Club with a line-up of

entertainment with International

DJ’s, Fashion Show and some

famous live artists performing.

Every guest will be going there

with a spirit of open minded

giving.

Doing Their BitPeople are either talkers or

doers. Heloise

and Prudence

are definitely

the latter.

Prudence brought to the event

the experience of high-end event

management, her network of

High Profile guests and extensive

fundraising experience.

“I have spent years being

involved in charities and

fundraising,” Prudence explains,

“I feel it’s part of my DNA and

when I read the book Not On

always have since a very young

age and I knew that through the

powerful racing world I could

make a difference to those

suffering in Sudan,” Heloise

Agelou of Agelou Horse Racing

LTD reveals, “And the partnership

provided a unique opportunity

for us to make a real difference

by combining our skills, networks

and experience.”

“Being a voice in the

racehorse industry that people

listen to Heloise was the perfect

partner,” Prudence explains,

“Having read the book ‘Not On

Our Watch’ by Don Cheadle and

John Prendergast, I knew that

I could help give a voice to the

people of Darfur.”

The Not On Our Watch Race

day and Fundraiser on the 15th

June will create an atmosphere

of positivity instead of guilt

and is a celebration of people’s

willingness to help others. It’s a

day of horse racing, socializing

with celebrities, a live auction

and performances by guest

“When I read the book Not On Our Watch it struck me as more a calling to help rather than an inspiration. I saw no choice in the matter.” - Prudence McNellis

Our Watch it struck me as more

Working together, Heloise

and Prudence Co-Founded Not

On Our Watch race day event.

Heloise delivered the perfect

location and setting, a fabulous

horseracing day, combining the

who’s-who of the horseracing

world, including jockeys, owners

and sponsors. Drawing from a

circle of influential people who

favour her opinion she provided

the leverage to bring in the names

that would attract attention. The

ultimate aim was to create a day

to give a voice to the Not On Our

Watch mission and at the same

time invite companies to get

involved in sponsorship.

“Offering the opportunity

of brand exposure and the

recognition of their corporate

support to the charity was the

key,” Prudence tells us, “By also

giving the public an opportunity

to be a part of the fundraiser

and reward them with a day of

entertainment and the chance

to bring together like minded

people.”

Bringing together likeminded

people to create opportunities

and significant change has

become a very well used tool of

Prudence.

“A common friend thought

that we should meet as he

believed there were some great

synergies between us. I have

always loved horses and spent

many days at the races, when

I met Heloise she gave me an

insight to the world of racing

and I loved her knowledge, this

inspired me to become more

involved in the horse racing industry.”

“We believe the most important result from this event would be

exposure to the world on the issues of genocide that still happen in

2013,” Prudence explains, “We need to encourage the world to work

together with the people in power who can stop these atrocities and

massacres from happening. If we can make a small difference, there is

always the ripple effect.”

“The strength of the charity comes from the conviction of its main

founders who include the likes of Jerry Weintraub, George Clooney,

Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, John Prendergast and Don Cheadle,” Heloise

says, “For them this is about stopping genocide, full stop, and for us

too.

Prudence’s company Prudence Production has taken on the task

of organizing the production of both the race day and the after party to

providing the guests a day of excitement and fantastic entertainment.

“This event is about creating a memorable experience for the

guests, “ Heloise concludes, “And most importantly, raising awareness

and money for a truly worthwhile cause.”
