Dear Resident,

As we move into this new normal battling the Corona Virus it is important for you to know about the actions

we are taking here at Christian City to protect our residents as well as some of the things that we will be

moving toward. Some of these things will be unpopular and difficult for residents but are critical if we are to

keep everyone safe as this disease is spreading around our area.

What we have done so far to reduce the spread of the virus:

Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Buildings are now restricted to all visitors including family

Recreational programs have been cancelled for now

Many Christian City employees are “Teleworking” from their homes where possible

All residents on campus are strongly encouraged to remain in their homes as much as possible

Contact between property managers and residents is primarily via phone

The ATM in the Skilled Nursing building has been moved to the lobby area for all resident use

Transportation services have been scaled back reducing the number of people on each trip

Grocery shopping Service set up and offered by ECA Transportation

Encouraging the use of CVS & Walgreen Delivery Services for medications

Locking of HUD Apartment Buildings from 6:00 PM till 7:00 AM

What we are planning to do:

Welfare phone call checks are being implemented daily, to all residents

One on one classes being offered for ATM use, online banking and bill pay

Pharmacy service being expanded by on-campus Pharmacy

Temporary cancellation of Transportation Services

Future possible options:

Locking down of Apartment buildings around the clock (deliveries by appointment only)

Mandatory shelter in place required of all Apartment and Patio Home residents

Strict visitation and movement policies enforced campus wide

Please realize that all of these temporary actions and many more are being implemented or considered for one

reason alone…. To keep that virus off our campus. Please cooperate with staff in protecting

everyone.

This is a TEMPORARY measureto protect YOU and YOUR FRIEnDs and nEIGHBORs

Just a reminder that the community garden is open for everyone to come in and enjoy and nourish their soul, but please don’t nourish the body because gardeners put their own money and time into the produce. You can’t pick from the garden unless you have specific, written permission from the owner of the plot.

It’s that time of the decade! You should have received your official Census Bureau mail with info on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, over the phone, or by mail. The Census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and others use to provide daily services, products and support for your community. The mailing provided info on how to respond but we are including information on how to respond by phone here:

To begin: call 844-330-2020. Phone lines are open every day from 7am to 2am Eastern Time.

Note: You may receive a follow up call from the Census Bureau after responding, at the number you provided. The caller will not ask about financial information or Social Security number. They will only review the responses that you previously provided.

Notes from a Few of Your Friends

Make sure that you do some sort of physical activity! Take a walk, stretch, or do some squats. LOVE YA’LL and can’t wait to be back with you again getting fit and listening to your favorite music!!!

- Tiffany Alvarez

I pray that you will be strengthened by this trial we are facing at present. I believe we will persevere and discover new and lasting ways to support one another from a 6-foot distance! Let’s remain focused on lov-ing people, obeying the command-ment to love your neighbor. The Lord will take care of the rest.

- Rhonda Silvis

You have been so blessed to witness and survive other epic events in our nation. So we are looking to you, to keep showing us what resilience looks like! Stay strong seasoned saints!  - Kristie Kenney

Blessings friend, may these verses from Psalm 92 encourage you as they have me, during this uncertain time. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night” Psalm 92:1-2. Declaring His lovingkindness in the morning brings right perspective for the day, and declaring His faithfulness at night, brings peace. What a great way to bookend each day!

- Stephanie Gruber, Houseparent, Christian City Children’s Village

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”, Psalm 46:1. God is always with you. He will see you through to the other side of this season. Just do what needs to be done to get to the other side in good health.

- Miriam King

I hope all is well with you and your family during these challenging times.  As we look for ways to encourage ourselves and others there’s a very popular scripture that comes to mind. Psalm 91:1-7- God Will Protect & Rescue. - Terry Head

Hello Christian City family, Remember you are “ALV” (Appreciated, Loved, and Valued)! Also remember to keep your eyes on Jesus, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, or anyone else’s face. We pray God’s Blessings over you ALL!

- Randy Worrell

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10). Dear friend, when your heart is heavy and your spirit is down, turn to the One who can create a new heart and restore a spirit of strength within you. He is not far away, He is near you. He hears your prayers. Our God gives hope, peace and a future. - Dan Garrett

Friends, we are thinking of and praying for you during this time! Please know that even though life may seem a bit lonelier right now than usual, you are never truly alone! Joshua 1:9 Praying for your health and that we get to see you all again soon!

- Bianca Arnold

We know that we don’t live in a world lost in chaos and chance, but in a world created and sustained by our God – who is there and in control of all things. He is there just as he has always been- always present, always close. Sometimes he leads us around trials; other times, through them. He never leaves nor forsakes – he is right there where we are, with the help we need. “Therefore we will not fear…” - Carl Ryden

Below is an excerpt from a friend of mine in Northern Virginia. I don’t know where she got it from, however, in my opinion it is food for thought. It is very long, however, I only included a small part of it. “May this pandemic be used to recognize the vulnerability of each human being who seeks to live well on planet Earth.  May this serve to realize the limit of human power in the face of the great mystery that is life.  It took but a few days to change power, wealth and dogma to uncertainty, poverty and vulnerability.  We are truly one, solidarity is more than a word.  It is the way out.  It took only a few days for Africa to become a safe continent.  It took a few days for humanity to realize that it is nothing but breath and dust.  Wuhan can see blue sky.  Who are we? What are we worth? Who can we become in front of the coronavirus?  Let’s make ourselves clear and clean while waiting for providence.  Let’s celebrate humanity and what we now see as truly precious and beautiful living on Earth.  We are all connected.  Let’s love this planet again.” This was written by Moustapha Dahleb in Mali, Africa.

- Delores Epps

This quote from Joni Aldrich seems fitting- Hope … a one-syllable word that will keep you going when all the other more impressive words have failed to sustain you. - Susan Stanfield

You are in our thoughts and prayers!

You have weathered stormy times over many years, and now you serve as our much-needed example of faith, fortitude and flexibility. You know, even better than the rest of us, that all things are passing, and God never changes. - Judith H. Fuller

Dear Christian friends, as you are cloistered at CC, I am cloistered at home alone -- but not truly alone as our dear Lord is with all of us, blessings on each of you. - Nora Blair

Mark 4:35-41 ESV - On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.... He is still calming the storm...

-Lorna Okorowo

I know it’s not easy being shut off from the world and daily pleasures that we sometimes take for granted. But please take comfort in knowing that our Lord has a very specific plan for everything under the sun. Psalm 46:10-11 says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

-Tamara Finlay

During this difficult time of uncertainty and social distancing, I would like to send encouragement, love, and positive thoughts to every resident living in our community. We will get through this with faith and prayers. - Brian Teague

Christian City residents have been a blessing to me since I came to work here.  I pray for protection for you during this time.  Know that you are thought of and appreciated every day.  I can’t wait until we can gather together again and hugging abounds.

The Chaplain’s Corner

8

As I sought to articulate an article on fear for this Party Line, I received the devotional thought below. It was from a chaplain colleague, David Lescalleet. It was God’s message for me - I want to share it with you… “At our core, because fear is natural to our being, we tend to misread passages like Proverbs 3:25-26. Yes, we are commanded to Have no fear (v25). But this in no way implies bravado. We are to acknowledge that, in the natural, there are scary things in the world. COVID19 is just the latest in a long line. Yes, the Lord is at our side (v26). But this in no way eliminates the many threats to our existence. Let us also therefore not make the mistake of slipping past verse 25 in order to rest in verse 26: Have no fear…for the Lord will be at your side. To do so would imply that we are impervious to those things that inflame fearfulness, and that is just not true. So, what then is the author trying to tell us in these two verses? The author is telling us that The Lord being with us means we can now face those things that we fear and face them well. Therefore, Have no fear! …. There is another usage in the Bible for the word fear, and it sits in direct opposition to the first meaning. Over in Proverbs 28:14 we see an example of this second meaning where the author writes: Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always…” In other words, there is a fear that doesn’t bring torment but rather it brings blessing and joy. But the blessing and joy is found in the fear of the Lord. Now on the surface, that may sound strange or

illogical. But if you lean into what the author of Proverbs is telling us, you’ll understand what is being written. You see, when the Bible writes about the fear of the Lord, it is using a word to describe an inner condition of awe and amazement and wonder at the magnitude of the love and the power and the great-ness of God. You could almost translate Proverbs 28:14 this way: Blessed is the one who ‘stands in awe and wonder’ of the Lord always. Notice how this meaning is opposite of the first. It is also completely devoid of self and instead is focused on God. Therein lies the answer to how we can now begin to face those things that scare us. When we are so awed by the greatness of God’s grace, when our hearts respond and leap in wonder and amazement at all that He has done, is doing, and will yet do in our lives, when we are responding to God’s love, there will be nothing left that can torment us. During these uncertain days, may we be reminded that the Lord is at our side and that we have nothing to fear in this world, because we fear the Lord.” As we remember and celebrate the gift of God’s Son, we proclaim the truth that even death itself, the ultimate of fears, is conquered through the cross of Jesus and the empty grave. As we celebrate His resurrection, we rejoice in what He has accomplished for all – that death itself no longer has mastery over us! May your Easter be rich in God’s love and the victory won! Carl
