The v2.0 firmware update for DT-series amplifiers introduces a host of new options for external control via MIDI. Any device capable of sending MIDI Continuous Control messages will work suitably, but it’s also possible to use an iPhone® or iPad®. This document describes how to configure your iOS device to control your DT-series amp using the TouchOSC app and a MIDI Mobilizer™ II interface.

Note: Although the following instructions apply to MIDI Mobilizer II, the original MIDI Mobilizer works as well. See below for display differences between MIDI Mobilizer II and MIDI Mobilizer in the TouchOSC application.

You’ll need:

• An Apple iPhone or iPad, compatible with the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer II (or original MIDI Mobilizer). For more information, check: http://line6.com/midimobilizer/mmii/specs.html

• A computer with iTunes® installed (preferably the computer you normally

use to sync and manage the files on your iPhone® or iPad®)

• An iPhone/iPad 30-pin sync cable

• A Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer II (or MIDI Mobilizer) interface

• The TouchOSC application, from hexler.net: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/touchosc/id288120394?mt=8

• The Line 6-provided DT Control Map file for TouchOSC

• A Line 6 DT25 or DT50 amp with 2.0 firmware installed. For more

information, check the accompanying FIRMWARE READ ME document included in the same folder as this one.

iPhone/iPad Setup Instructions:

1. Install the TouchOSC application on your iPhone or iPad. Make sure it launches successfully before moving to step 2.

2. Connect your MIDI Mobilizer interface to your device and follow any

prompts that may appear. It may prompt you to install MIDI Memo Recorder.

3. Note where the DT Control Map file resides on your hard drive, so you

can browse to it from iTunes later.

4. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer via the 30-pin sync cable, and launch iTunes.

5. Once iTunes mounts your iPhone or iPad, it will appear in the list on the

left side of the screen:

 6. Click on the name of your device next to the icon:

 7. You should see the Summary screen for your device:

 8. On the top panel of the device view, you should see a series of tabs,

starting with Summary. Click on the Apps tab.

9. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, where you’ll see a list of applications that have the ability to natively transfer files between the computer and your iPhone/iPad over USB.

10. Using the scroll bar if necessary, scroll the application view so that the TouchOSC application is visible in the list, and click on it.

11. You’ll now see a list of all of the files stored in TouchOSC on your iOS device. Click the Add button on the bottom of the file window to add the appropriate DT controller profile.

12. Navigate to the location on your hard drive where you placed the

TouchOSC Control Map file. Select it and click the Open button.

13. Click the Apply button and iTunes will sync with your iOS device. Depending on how much data you have on your device, this may take a few minutes.

14. Once completed, the Control Map file is on your device—you’re almost ready to control your amp!

Go to the next page to learn how to set up TouchOSC on Your iPhone or iPad

Setting up the TouchOSC Software on Your iPhone or iPad

1. Connect your MIDI Mobilizer interface to the 30-pin dock connector on your iOS device, and open TouchOSC by clicking on its icon.

2. You should see a screen that looks similar to the shot below.

3. If you’re using an original MIDI Mobilizer, the MIDI Mobilizer field should show that your device is connected after a few seconds.

If you’re using a MIDI Mobilizer II, it shows up on a difference page (due to the fact that MIDI Mobilizer II is iOS class compliant). If you click the CoreMIDI tab, you should see the following screen, indicating that your MIDI Mobilizer II is connected and working properly.

4. Go back to the main menu and click the field under Layout to bring up the map selection dialog, and select the Control Map file you imported from the list. Here, we’ve chosen the “DT50.touchosc” file.

5. If you’re using an original MIDI Mobilizer, your screen should now look much like this:

And if you’re using a MIDI Mobilizer II, your screen will look more like this:

6. Click the blue Done button.

7. You’ll now see the Control Map for the DT amps.

 8. The buttons along the top are tabbed pages, allowing access to groups

of different types of amp parameters.

 9. By pressing any of the virtual buttons, you should see a corresponding

green light in the upper right-hand corner of the TouchOSC app. You should also see a red light on the MIDI Mobilizer II, indicating that a MIDI message is being sent out the MIDI Out jack.

10. Now connect the included MIDI cables from your MIDI Mobilizer to your

DT amp.

The MIDI Mobilizer II jacks aren’t labeled with text. Instead, arrows are used to indicate the flow of data. The arrow pointing away from the screen is the MIDI output jack, and the arrow pointing towards the screen is the MIDI input jack. Connect the MIDI Mobilizer II output jack to the MIDI input on the DT amp, and connect the DT amp’s MIDI output jack to the input of the MIDI Mobilizer II.

11. With the Voicing I/II/III/IV switch on the front of the DT amp, select which

one of the four default configurations you’d like to overwrite.

12. At this point, you may begin sending MIDI commands to the amplifier. By exploring the various pages in TouchOSC, you’ll see that you have a host of new control options, ranging from reverb type to operating class and feedback topology. Once you’ve made changes, the amp will remember the last state it was in before you change to a new Voicing position or turn it off.

13. By moving the Voicing switch on the front of the amp to the other three

available configurations, you can load up to four different setups on each channel—giving you eight total custom configurations. You can regularly dive in and come up with new sounds, or you can set up eight custom configurations and leave them in the amp for as long as you like.

DT-Series Amp Reset Procedure

With the power turned off, simply push the I/II/III/IV Voicing Switch down while pushing the Pentode/Triode switch up at the same time (essentially pinching the two switches together) and turn the amp on. This will set the DT amp back to a factory-fresh default state.
