The Problem

• In a lecture environment it is difficult to write down all of the important information the professor presents while still paying attention and having time to ask questions and be actively engaged in the class.

• Taking extensive notes can be especially difficult if a student is disabled in any way.– Ex: hand injury

The Problem

• Currently the only option is to record the class and later listen to the lecture again to capture important information.

• This is extremely time consuming and still requires the students to write or type all of the notes.

The Solution

• We propose a device that records the class lecture and then turns the recording into text on a computer.

• A microphone and recorder captures the professor speaking. The student then plugs the device into a USB port on a computer and the lecture comes up as a word document that can easily be edited and printed.

The Solution

• This device will save students a considerable amount of time taking notes and will offer more time for studying them.

• Focusing less effort on furiously taking notes in the classroom will also allow the student to concentrate more on the material being presented. There will be time to ask questions and receive clarification. No longer will students feel rushed to everything that is said.

The Technology

• Software like Dragon from Nuance proves that the technology is present to make this happen. – http://nuance.com/talk/

• Dragon also has an iPhone app that turns talk into text. – http://wellconnectedmom.com/blog/2010/01/23/fre

The Technology

• The only difference from the previous software and our idea is that we would like to record voice and then transcribe it into text at a later time rather than doing this process live.

The Specs

• Compatible with many word processing programs like Word and TextEdit.

• Small enough to easily fit in pocket; not much bigger than a flash drive.
