The Computerized Petrol Engine Test Rig is urgently needed for the Propulsion Lab (5AN5) of the Aeronautical Engineering branch students at UCE, RTU Kota for the current session 2013-14. The specification of the same is hereunderS.No.

Specification Requirement

1 Equipment Description Computerized Petrol Engine Test Rig (four cylinder four stroke) with an arrangement to cut off the ignition to conduct Morse test.

2 Purpose To test four cylinder, four stroke petrol engine to determine specific fuel consumption, bhp, ihp, brake thermal efficiency, mechanical efficiency, air consumption, volumetric efficiency and prepare heat balance sheet.

3 Components Complete equipment along with suitable operation and control unit. Complete manuals for all experiments.

4 Software Windows based licensed software with ability to record, analyze and retrieve all types of instrumentation data as per user requirement in any windows file format.

5 Qualifying Requirement Quotations from Manufacturers preferred. In either case the manufacturer should have at least 6 to 8 years experience in this field. Manufacturer should have supplied at least ten similar equipments. Supplier client list to be furnished by supplier.

6 Utilities Requirement: Information on requirement of various utilities such as power, cooling facility (if required) etc are to be furnished.

7 Equipment Layout Plan Information on the requirements for proper layout plan for erection and installation of equipments with set off dimensions to be furnished along with the offer in order to enable us to check suitability in the identified location.

8 Safety Devices Equipment to be provided with suitable Safety and fire prevention devices. Any other safety information/training to be provided during training.

9 Control assistance Manufacturer has to assist in establishing suitable control parameters during trial run of testing in the laboratory. Manual/proper work instructions are also to be provided.

10 Instrument capability Equipment has to be demonstrated for continuous operation of 1 hour without disturbance.

11 Technical Specifications Parameter Description

Engine Type Maruti/Hyundai/ HM(Ambassador) MPFI four cylinder four stroke water cooled petrol engine with power at least 50 bhp.

Dynamometer Loading

Hydraulic dynamometer to load engine up to at least 20% of full capacity.

Dynamometer capacity: Atleast 50 hp.

Temperature sensor

“K” type Thermocouple with range 0-1000 ºC with digital display on panel.

Engine Cooling

Water cooled petrol engine consists of suitable inlet and outlet piping with flow control valve. Rota meter to measure the rate of flow of cooling water and Thermocouple with pocket connections for measuring inlet and outlet water temperature.

Exhaust gas calorimeter

Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger to measure the heat going with exhaust gases.

Engine RPM and torque measurement

A non contact type proximity sensor with digital indicator (Tachometer of range 0-9999 rpm). Digital torque indicator with calibration facility.

Controls (Manual)

a. Ignition switch control for engine starting.

b. Manual throttle control.

c. Manual control for dynamometer loading.

Air intake measurement

Air tank fitted with a suitable orifice plate, manometer and thermocouple for measuring the exhaust gas temperature.

Fuel measuring

Fuel tank, burette mounted on panel board and supplied with fuel piping from fuel tank to Engine, and a Stop clock.

Engine starting

12 V DC electrical system

Support structure

Strong steel frame. All instruments should be mounted on separate frame with anti vibration mount so that no vibration is transferred to instruments.

Computer hardware

Branded P.C. (Hp or Dell) with Intel 3rd generation i-3 processor, 8 Gb RAM, 1 Tb HDD, 14” LCD monitor, Windows O.S., keyboard & optical mouse

Data Acquisition and Display System

Computerized versatile data acquisition system (with compatible Software) which is able to display and record all types of instrumentation data including bhp, air flow rate, cooling water and exhaust gas temperature etc.
