    2009 RECORDS - - Iowa is 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten. TheHawkeyes are ranked 15th by both the Associated Press and theUSAToday/Coaches poll. The Hawkeyes are ranked 13th in the BCSpoll. The Hawkeyes beat Northern Iowa (17-16), Arizona (27-17),Arkansas State (24-21), Michigan (30-28) and Indiana (42-24)before losing to Northwestern (17-10) in Kinnick Stadium. Roadwins have come against Iowa State (35-3), fourth-ranked PennState (21-10), Wisconsin (20-10) and Michigan State (15-13). TheHawkeyes lost, in overtme, at Ohio State (27-24) last week.

    Minnesota is 6-5 in all games and 3-4 in league play. Minnesotahas wins over Syracuse, Air Force, Northwestern, Purdue, MichiganState and South Dakota State. Losses have come against California,Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State and Illinois.

    THE SERIES - - This is the 103rd meetng between the two schoolsand Minnesota leads the series 59-41-2. The Hawkeyes have wonseven of the last eight and 12 of the last 16 meetngs.     Iowa (9-2, 5-2) hosts Minnesota (6-5, 3-4) Saturday, closing the regular seasonwith Senior Day. Kickoff is 11:02 a.m. at Kinnick Stadium (70,585). The game

    ESPN (HD) will televise the game to a national cable audience. The game wilalso be available online at ESPN360.com. Dave Pasch, Bob Griese and ChrisSpielman will call the action.

    RADIO BROADCAST

    Iowa games are broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network. Gary Dolphin handlesthe play-by-play, with color commentator Ed Podolak and sideline reporter RobBrooks. The Hawkeye Radio Network includes more than 40 stations throughouthe state.

    Iowa has played 1,127 games since beginning football in 1889. Iowas overall record is 577-510-39 (.529).     ON THE LINE

    Iowa can clinch no worse than a tie for second place in the Big Ten with a winSaturday. An Iowa win and an Ohio State loss at Michigan would earn a title sharefor the Hawkeyes with as many as four teams. Wisconsin (at Northwestern) andPenn State (at Michigan State) also enter the final week of conference play withtwo losses. Ohio State has the tie-breaker advantage for the Big Tens spot in the

    FLOYD OF ROSEDALE

    As a result of a bet between the governors of the two states in 1935, possession ofFloyd of Rosedale is at stake Saturday.     DOUBLE FIGURE VICTORIESIowa is seeking to win as many as 10 games in a season for the seventh time in

    school history. Iowa has won 10 or more regular season games in just three seasons(1985, 1991, 2002).

    Iowa has won at least 10 games in three previous seasons (2002, 2003, 2004)under Coach Kirk Ferentz, including a school-record 11 wins in 2002.

    SENIOR TRIBUTESenior members of the Iowa football program will be introduced Saturday duringpre-game ceremonies.

    The Iowa seniors include LB Pat Angerer, OL Kyle Calloway, DB Joe ConklinOL Dan Doering, OLB A.J. Edds, OL Rafael Eubanks, DL Chad Geary, FB BryceGriswold, DB Taylor Herbst, OL Andy Kuempel, DL Travis Meade, TE TonyMoeaki, RB Jayme Murphy, OL Dace Richardson, DB Chris Rowell, TE KyleSpading, and WR Trey Stross.

    IOWA IN BCS RANKINGS

    Iowa is ranked 13th in the BCS rankings. Iowa was ranked as high as fourthearlier this season, its highest BCS ever. The Hawkeyes were ranked fifth duringthe final three weeks of the 2002 season.

    The BCS rankings are a combination of the Harris Interactive poll, the USA Todaycoaches poll and computer rankings. Iowa is 12th in the computer rankings, 15thin the coaches poll and 14th in the Harris poll. Iowa was first in the computer polin the Oct. 25 rankings.

    Prior to this season, Iowa appeared in the BCS top 25 on 24 occasions, includingeight weeks in both 2002 and 2003, seven weeks in 2004 and one week in 2006Iowa was ranked as high as 11th in 2003 and 2004 and 23rd in 2006.

    IN THE RANKINGSIowa is ranked 15th in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches rankings

    The Hawkeyes are also 13th in the BCS Standings and 14th in the Harris Poll.Iowa ranked as high as sixth in the coaches poll and eighth in the AP earlier this

    season, the highest for the Hawkeyes since they were third in both the AP rankingand the coaches poll in December, 2002.

    Around the Big Ten, Ohio State is 9/8, Penn State is ranked No. 13/12 andWisconsin is 17/14. In addition, Arizona is listed among teams receiving votes inboth rankings.

    In pre-season rankings, Iowa was ranked 10th by College Football Insider, 15thby The Kickoff Magazine, 20th by Phil Steeles College Football Preview, 21st inUSA Today coaches poll, 22nd by the Associated Press, 23rd by Athlon Sports and24th by Sports Illustrated.

    Iowa is ranked 18th in the latest Sagarin Ratings.

    EVASHEVSKI REMEMBEREDFormer University of Iowa Football Coach and Athletic Director Forest Eva-

    shevski, died Oct. 30th at the age of 91. He is a member of college footballs Halof Fame. He coached the Hawkeyes (1952-60) to three Big Ten titles and two RoseBowl victories. He died at his long-time home in Petosky, MI. The Hawkeyehonor his memory with an EVY helmet sticker.

    BEST DECADE FOR IOWA FOOTBALLIowas football record in the 2000 decade stands at 78-45 (.634), a record that ranks

    among the best decades in Iowa football history. Iowa posted a record of 77-40-4(.652) during the 1980s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2 (.538) in the 1990s.

    Weekly Football Press ConferenceIowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz holds his weekly press

    conferences every Tuesday throughout the season.

    The press conferences are held in the auditorium of

    the Hayden Fry Football Complex. Coach Ferentz ad-

    dresses the media at 12:30 p.m. and requested players

    will be available following the press conference. In case

    of poor weather, player interviews will be conducted

    inside the bubble.

    Media need to submit their Tuesday player interview

    requests to Phil Haddy near the conclusion of the previ-

    ous Saturdays football game. Media not in attendance

    should e-mail their requests to Haddy. True freshmen

    are not available for interviews.

    Media can access video highlights of Ferentzs weekly

    press conference, plus player clips and highlights via

    satellite. The time is from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. (CT). The

    satellite feed is available on C-Band Analog, Galaxy 19,

    Transponder 8.

    Part of the Hawkeye success is due to the stability in the program, as Iowa hashad just two head coaches since 1979. Hayden Fry took over prior to the 1979season and coached through the 1998 season, posting a record of 143-89-6. Current Coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry and is now in his 11th season. Ferentz alsoserved as Iowas offensive line coach from 1981-89 under Fry.

    IOWA WINNING THE CLOSE ONES

    Iowa won four games by three points or less for thefi

    rst time ever in openingthe season with nine straight wins. The two Iowa losses have been by seven andthree points in overtime. Iowa won three games by three points or less in 20041987 and 1986. In 2004, Iowa won by margins of 6-4, 23-21 and 29-27, all inconference play. In 1987 Iowa had one point wins over Arizona and Wyoming anda two point decision over Ohio State. In 1986 the Hawkeyes defeated MichiganState and Minnesota by three points before a 39-38 Holiday Bowl win over SanDiego State.

    Iowa, in 1996, won two games by a single point and one game by seven. In 1993Iowa had victories by one, three and four points. The 1985 championship seasonincluded wins by two, three and four points. Iowas 9-1 season, in 1956, includedtwo wins by a single point and two six point victories.

    IOWA OPENS WITH NINE STRAIGHT WINS Iowa opened the season with nine straight wins for the first time ever. TheHawkeyes won their first seven games on the way to the 1985 Big Ten title. Iowaalso won its first seven games in 1900, 1921 and 1922. The Hawkeyes playedjust seven games in both 1921 and 1922 and posted a 7-0-1 record in 1900.

    Iowa has won at least five conference games for the sixth time in 11 seasonsunder Kirk Ferentz.

    Iowa won 13 straight games before a loss to Northwestern. The Iowa win streakwas its longest since a 20-game streak between 1920 and 1923.

    Iowas strength of schedule is rated 12th strongest in the nation, based on op-ponents played to date. Iowas 11 opponents, to date, have compiled a 69-46(.600) record.

    Iowa has won four games by a total of eight points, with wins by one, two, twoand three points. The Hawkeyes have trailed in nine of 10 games, with the largest deficit being 14 points in the second half against Indiana. Iowa trailed by10 points in wins over Northern Iowa, Penn State and Wisconsin. Iowa trailedIndiana by 10 points in the fourth period before winning 42-24. Iowas twolosses have been by seven and three points in overtime.

    Iowa has collected 26 turnovers in 11 games, including 19 pass interceptions.Iowa is tied for second in the nation in interceptions and tied for eighth in totaturnovers. The Hawkeyes had 23 interceptions in 13 games last season.

    Iowa is tied for 20th in fewest fumbles lost (six), fourth in penalty yards pergame (35.8) and fifth in fewest penalties per game (4.5), and 33rd in time ofpossession (31:05).

    Iowa has lost six fumbles, two of those in the opening game and two vs. North-western. Iowa did not lose its only fumble at Iowa State in week two and lost itsonly fumble at Wisconsin in game seven. Iowa had two fumbles on punt returnsvs. Indiana, losing one of the two. Iowas second fumble against Northwesternwas just the second this season by an Iowa running back.

    Iowa has committed 24 turnovers in 11 games, with 15 of those taking place inthe six Iowa home games. Iowa has nine turnovers in five road games.

    Iowa won its final three regular season games a year ago (PennState, Purdue, Minnesota) and defeated South Carolina inthe 2009 Outback Bowl before opening 2009 with wins overNorthern Iowa, Iowa State, Arizona, Penn State, ArkansasState, Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Indiana.

    Iowa had the longest road winning streak in Big Ten playwith wins at Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michi-gan State over the past two years before the overtime loss aOhio State.

    MINNESOTA COACH TIM BREWSTERTim Brewster is in his third season as head coach at Min-

    nesota. His overall record stands at 14-22 and 6-17 in BigTen play. Brewster became Minnesotas 26th head footballcoach Jan. 17, 2007 after spendingfive seasons in the NationalFootball League, including the last two as tight ends coach forthe Denver Broncos.     MOEAKI ON MACKEY MID-SEASON LISTSenior TE Tony Moeaki is one of 22 players named to the

    John Mackey Award Mid-Season Watch List, which was an-nounced Oct. 20. Moeaki collected a career-best 10 receptionsin a win over Northern Iowa. Moeaki gained 83 receivingyards and scored on a six-yard reception. He returned toaction against Michigan after missing three games and ledIowa with six receptions for 105 yards and two scores. Hewas named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. He hadthree catches for 55 yards, including a 24-yard touchdownin the win at Wisconsin and he had 23 yards on two catchesvs. Indiana. Moeaki battled through injuries, again, in 2008finishing with 13 catches for 144 yards and one touchdownin nine contests. He has accumulated 72 receptions for 868

    yards and 11 touchdowns during his injury-plagued career.

    Head Coach Kirk Ferentz

    Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,rhymes with parents) is in his 11thseason as head football coach at theUniversity of Iowa. His latest contractextension, signed this past summer, runsthrough the 2015 season.

    Ferentz is one of 15 semi-finalists forthe 2009 George Munger Award, pre-sented by the Maxwell Football Club tothe College Coach of the Year.

    Ferentz was honored as the 2002 As-sociated Press and Walter Camp National Coach of the Yearand was the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year that season aswell. He was named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Yearin both 2002 and 2004. Ferentz guided Iowa to Big Ten titlestwice in the last seven years and five January bowl games,

    including three New Years Day bowl victories (2004 OutbackBowl, 2005 Capital One Bowl and 2009 Outback Bowl). Iowahas posted a 68-31 (.687) overall mark and a 41-22 (.651) BigTen record the last seven-plus seasons. Ferentz has guidedthe Hawkeyes to seven first division finishes.

    Ferentz, at Iowa, holds an overall record of 79-55 (.590)and a 48-39 (.551) mark in Big Ten games. In 13 seasons asa college head coach his career mark is 91-76 (.545). Ferentzboasts the second-most victories by a Hawkeye head coach.

    Fifty of Iowas 134 games under Ferentz have been decidedby seven points or less (24-26) and 38 were played against op-ponents who were ranked in the top 25 at the time (15-23).

    Ferentz joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant head

    coach and offensive line coach of the NFLs Baltimore Ravens.He had been part of the Baltimore (Cleveland Browns priorto the move) staff for six years.

    Ferentz was named head coach of the Maine Bears in 1990and held that position for three years. Ferentz was a member ofHayden Frys Iowa staff for nine years as offensive line coach(1981-89). He coordinated Iowas running game during hisfirst coaching stint with the Hawkeyes. Iowa appeared in eightbowl games during the time Ferentz was an Iowa assistant,posting a 4-4 record. A pair of Rose Bowls (1982 & 1986),two Holiday Bowl appearances (1986 & 1987) and a pair ofPeach Bowl visits (1982 & 1988), along with appearances inthe Gator (1983) and Freedom bowls (1984) highlighted his

    previous Iowa stay. Iowas record in those nine years was 73-33-4 and included two 10-win and two nine-win seasons.

    Ferentz was born in Royal Oak, MI, and attended high schoolin Pittsburgh, PA. Kirk earned his bachelors degree in EnglishEducation from the University of Connecticut in 1978, wherehe was a football captain. Kirk received the DistinguishedAlumnus Award from the Neag School of Education at theUniversity of Connecticut in May, 2009. He was inducted intothe Upper St. Clair High School Hall of Fame in September,2002 and the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hallof Fame in May, 2003.

    Stanzi (6-4, 218) is a native of Mentor, OH, who quarterbacked the Hawkeyes toa 9-1 record before missing the Ohio State game due to injury. Stanzi has passed for2,186 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He has posted a 17-4 record as Iowasstarting quarterback. He was injured in the second period vs. Northwestern anddid not return. He is one of two Big Ten quarterbacks among the semi-finalists.

    Two Iowa quarterbacks have won the Davey OBrien Award as the nations topquarterback. Chuck Long won the honor in 1985 and Brad Banks was recognized

    in 2002.

    SASH IS JIM THORPE AWARD SEMI-FINALISTSophomore DB Tyler Sash is one of 12 semi-finalists for the 2009 Jim Thorpe

    Award, which goes each season to the top defensive back in the nation.Sash has established a new Iowa record for career interception return yards with

    350 yards on 11 interceptions. The previous best of 202 yards (18 interceptionswas held by Devon Mitchell. He has six interceptions this season for 203 yardsHe had an 86-yard touchdown return in the win over Indiana, the fifth longest re-turn in school history. His six thefts in 2009 tie for sixth best in a season and hi203 return yards are a single season record. He is third on the team in tackles (76and fifth in tackles for loss (5.5). He tied Iowas single game record with threeinterceptions in the win at Iowa State (63 return yards).

    He tied for the team lead last season with five interceptions for 147 yards. TheIowa single season record is eight interceptions and the career mark is 18.

    ANGERER IS CHUCK BEDNARIK SEMI-FINALISTSenior linebacker Pat Angerer is one of 16 semi-finalist for the 2009 Chuck Bed-

    narik Award, which honors the top defensive player in the nation.After leading the team in tackles a year ago, Angerer has led Iowa in tackles in

    the last eight games. Angerer had 12 tackles in wins over Indiana and Michiganand nine at Michigan State. He collected a career-high 17 tackles in the loss toNorthwestern. He had five solo stops among his 13 tackles at Ohio State.

    Angerer recorded four solo stops and eight assists vs. Indiana, including 1.5tackles for loss. He also had a forced fumble vs. the Hoosiers as he surpasses 200career tackles. He is tied for 36th in career stops with 232.

    He led the team with nine tackles at Wisconsin, including one tackle for loss anda pass break-up. At Penn State he recorded 14 tackles (four solo). His interception and 38-yard return in the fourth quarter led to an Iowa touchdown and he alsocaused a fumble to stop another potential Penn State scoring drive. Angerer had11 tackles against Arkansas State. He recorded 12 tackles vs. Northern Iowa andfour stops against Iowa State. Angerer led Iowa with 107 tackles while playing inall 13 games in 2008. He leads the team with 119 tackles this season.

    DONAHUE IS GUY SEMI-FINALISTJunior punter Ryan Donahue has been named one of 10 semi-finalists for the Ray

    Guy Award, which goes to the top punter in the nation.He is averaging 41.9 yards on 48 punts, with 23 punts inside the 20 and just five

    touchbacks. Iowas opponents have 18 punt returns for 84 net yards, as Iowa ranks13th in the nation in punt return defense (4.7). He has at least one punt of at leas50 yards in 16 of Iowas last 22 games. Donahue holds three of the 10 longespunts (82, 76 and 73 yards) in school history.

    Donahue averaged 42.8 yards on five punts in Iowas opening win. He averaged39 yards on four punts at Iowa State and had a 51-yard average on five punts vsArizona. He had a 62-yard punt vs. Arizona as four of his five punts covered aleast 50 yards. Donahue averaged 50 yards on his three punts at Wisconsin, witha long of 58 yards. Donahue averaged 44.7 yards on six punts at Michigan Statewith three kicks inside the 20. He averaged 47 yards on five punts vs. Northwest-ern, with a season-long 73 yard boot.     Junior offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde has been selected to theESPN TheMagazine/COSIDA Academic all-District Seven second all-America team. Vander-velde is a religious studies and English major boasting a 3.47 GPA.

    This marks the second time the Davenport, IA, native has earned the honor; hewas recognized on the academic all-district first team a year ago. He is also atwo-time academic all-conference honoree. He has played in 10 games this yeaat offensive guard for the Hawkeyes, playing both the left and right guard spotsHe did not play in the opening game due to injury.

    HAWKEYES EARN WEEKLY RECOGNITION Several Iowa players have earned weekly honors this season. Iowa TE Tony Moeaki was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week by

    the Nassau County (NY) Sports Commission for his play in Iowas 30-28 win

    over Michigan. He was also selected as Big Ten Offensive Player of the weekMoeaki caught six passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. He had scoringreceptions of 34 and 42 yards. He was also named national Tight End of theWeek by the College Football Performance Award committee and OffensivePlayer of the Week in the Big Ten by ESPN.com.

    DE Adrian Clayborn was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week forhis play against Penn State. Clayborn also earned the AT&T All-America Playerof the Week award vs. Penn State and was named ESPN.coms Big Ten SpeciaTeams Player of the Week. He had two tackles and a blocked punt returned fora touchdown against fifth-ranked Penn State. His 53-yard touchdown returngave Iowa an 11-10 lead in the fourth quarter. Clayborn played a solid gamein Iowas win over Arizona, being recognized on ESPN.coms website as thedefensive player of the week in the Big Ten. Clayborn was also named Big Tenco-Defensive Player of the Week against Michigan State. In the 15-13 win aMichigan State, Clayborn had four tackles, two sacks for a minus 19 yards andthree tackles for losses totaling 21 yards. He also forced a fumble.

    LB Pat Angerer was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his playat Penn State. Angerer was also named the national Defensive Player of theWeek by the National Football Writers Association, the Lott Trophy IMPACTPlayer of the Week and was named Linebacker Performer of the Week by theCollege Football Performance Award committee. The IMPACT Player Awardcomes with a $1,000 check for the Universitys general scholarship fund.Angererhad a team high 14 tackles, an interception (returned for 38 yards) that set up atouchdown and forced a fumble that helped seal Iowas 21-10 win.

    Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk SeriesIowa State holds a 6-5 advantage in the sixth annualHy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series with Iowa State. Iowa scoredthree points with a win in football and two points for a2-0 soccer win. Iowa State won the volleyball matchand placed higher than Iowa in mens and womenscross country at the NCAA regionals.

    Iowa holds a 3-2 advantage in the in-state competi-tion that began in 2004-05. The Hawkeyes capturedthe Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series a year ago by a 21-4margin.

    Last season, Iowa captured victories in football, wom-ens soccer, womens cross country, mens basketball,womens basketball, wrestling, womens gymnastics(twice) and softball. The Cyclones recorded wins in

    volleyball and mens cross country.

    Along with the series win a year ago, Iowa capturedthe inaugural Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series (13-8) in2004-05 and won again in 2006-07 (13-8). IowaState won the competition in 2005-06 (13-8) and2007-08 (18-9).

    The 13-event series awards two points (except foot-ball, which is worth three) to the winning school ineach head-to-head match-up between the two insti-tutions. Additionally, two points are awarded to aninstitution if the graduation rate of its student-athletesis greater than the national average as reported eachfall by the NCAA. Womens tennis has been added tothe competition for the first time in 2009-10.

    A commemorative Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series Cup,which stands 31 inches tall and weighs 19 pounds, isdisplayed on the winning teams campus for an entireyear after a victory. Replica cups are also presentedas traveling trophies for individual victorious teamsin the head-to-head competition.

    Punter Ryan Donahue was the Big Tens co-Special Teams Player of the Weekfollowing the win over Arizona. Donahue averaged 51 yards onfive punts, witha long of 62 yards and four kicks of at least 50 yards. Two punts were insidethe 20 and Arizona had just one return for four yards.

    DB Tyler Sash was the Big Tens co-Defensive Player of the Week for his play inIowas win at Iowa State. Sash was also named the national Defensive Performerof the Week by the College Football Performance Award committee. He tiedIowas school record with three interceptions (63 return yards). He also causeda fumble and recorded eight solo tackles and two assists, including two tacklesfor loss. Sash was also named national Defensive Performer of the Week for hisplay vs. Indiana, as he had an 86-yard interception return and seven tackles.

    LB Jeremiha Hunter was the Big Tens co-Special Team Player of the Weekfollowing Iowas season-opening win over Northern Iowa. Hunter came up bigat the end of the game, blocking Northern Iowas second field goal attempt onthe last play after Broderick Binns had blocked the previous attempt. Hunteradded nine tackles against the Panthers.

    WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was named national Kick Return Performer ofthe Week by the College Football Performance Award committee for his playat Ohio State. DJK had a 99-yard KO return for a touchdown as Iowa rallied inthe fourth period. He had three KO returns for 154 yards and added three passreceptions for 71 yards.

    HAWKEYES AMONG SINGLE SEASON LEADERS Several Hawkeyes rank among Iowas single-season leaders this season. RB Adam Robinson has 703 rushing yards, becoming the 32nd player to surpass

    700 yards in a season. His total is the most ever for an Iowa freshman. QB Ricky Stanzi is 15th in passing yards (2,186) and 16th in total offense(2,145).

    WRs Marvin McNutt (625) and Derrell Johnson-Koulianos rank 31st and 32ndrespectively, in receiving yards. McNutt is tied for 10th with seven receivingtouchdowns.

    PK Daniel Murray ranks 18th in scoring with 77 points. DB Tyler Sash is tied for sixth with six interceptions. His 203 return yards are

    a single-season record. LB Pat Angerer is tied for 28th with 119 tackles.

    HAWKEYES AMONG CAREER LEADERSTwo Iowa seniors, LB Pat Angerer and OLB A.J. Edds, rank among Iowas career

    tackle leaders, as Angerer has 232 career tackles and Edds 213. Angerer is tied for36th and Edds is tied for 49th.

    Angerer has 86 solo stops and 146 assists. With 12 tackles in the win over Indiana, he became the 61st Hawkeye to surpass 200 career tackles. Edds has 69 solotackles and 144 assists, surpassing 200 career stops vs. Northwestern.

    Sophomore DB Tyler Sash is tied for sixth in career interceptions (11) and holdsthe career record for interception return yards (350). His total return yards rankfifth best all-time in the Big Ten Conference for all games.

    On offense, junior WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has 1,745 career receiving yardson 116 receptions. DJK ranks ninth in receptions and 12th in receiving yards.

    IOWA, MINNESOTA NOTES Iowa has won two traveling trophies and will gun for a third Saturday. The

    Hawkeyes defeated Iowa State 35-3 (Sept. 12) at Ames to maintain possessionof the Cy-Hawk Trophy and defeated Wisconsin 20-10 (Oct. 18) at Madison tokeep the Heartland Trophy for a second straight year. Floyd of Rosedale currentlyresides in Iowa City, as Iowa has won the last two meetings with MinnesotaIowa has won six straight trophy games, dating back to a win over Minnesotain 2007.

    The Iowa depth chart includes six seniors who are listed as starters (four offense

    two defense) and just 10 seniors overall. Minnesota is ninth in net punting (39.26) and Iowa is 18th (38.1). Minnesota is 38th in KO returns (23.41) and Iowa is 41st (23.11). Iowa has three players on its roster from the state of Minnesota, including regular

    starters in OL Rafael Eubanks (St. Paul), DE Broderick Binns (St. Paul) and DTKarl Klug from Caledonia.

    Iowa has allowed just two 100-yard rushers this season. Iowa States AlexanderRobinson rushed 19 times for 100 yards in Iowas 35-3 win and OSUs BrandonSaine had 103 yards on 11 carries. Iowa allowed just one 100-yard rusher in 13games in 2008.

    No current Hawkeye players were born during the week of Nov. 15-21. Playerswith birthdays remaining in November include QB James Vandenberg (Nov23), LB Shane DiBona (Nov. 26) and LB Troy Johnson and QB John Wienke

    (Nov. 29).

    COACHING CONNECTIONS Iowa Defensive Coordinator Norm Parker was the defensive line coach at Min-

    nesota from 1972-76. Minnesota Coach Tim Brewster played at Illinois and was a graduate assistan

    coach at Purdue. Minnesota assistant Tim Cross was the defensive line coach at Syracuse when

    Iowa defeated the Orange in two overtimes in 2006. Minnesota assistant Kevin Cosgrove has also coached at Wisconsin and Illi-

    nois. Minnesota assistant Ronnie Lee has also coached at Michigan and Wisconsin. Minnesota assistant Tim Davis coached offensive linemen at Southern Cal in

    2002 when Iowa and the Trojans met in the 2003 Orange Bowl. He was also onthe Arizona staff in 1987 when Iowa defeated the Wildcats and has also coachedat Wisconsin.

    Minnesota assistant Thomas Hammock was the running backs coach at NorthernIllinois in 2006 when Iowa defeated the Huskies 24-14 and has also coached aWisconsin.

    Minnesota assistant Derek Lewis was a graduate assistant at Texas when Iowamet the Longhorns in the 2006 Alamo Bowl.

    THE LAST MEETINGIowa closed the regular season with a 55-0 win at Minnesota, keeping Floyd of

    Rosedale in Iowa City. The win was Iowas largest margin of victory ever over

    the Gophers.The Hawkeyes dominated play on both sides ofthe ball. Iowa maintained possession for 37:37and totaled 483 yards of offense, compared to134 for Minnesota. The Gophers rushed foronly seven yards on 21 attempts. Iowas defenseforced three turnovers, while its offense turnedthose miscues into 21 points.

    Sparking the Hawkeyes, offensively, were RBShonn Greene, QB Ricky Stanzi and WR DerrellJohnson-Koulianos. Greene amassed a game-high 144 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, becoming Iowas single-seasonrushing leader in the process. Additionally, he topped 100 rushing yards for the

    12th-straight contest, the only FBS tailback to accomplish that feat in 2008.Johnson-Koulianos caught seven passes for a career-high 181 yards and a score

    He recorded long catches of 29, 30, 48 and 50 yards. The 181 receiving yards arethe eighth-most by an Iowa receiver in a single-game.

    Stanzi completed 15-28 passes for 255 yards and three scores and rushed sixtimes for 17 yards.

    Six different Hawkeyes scored touchdowns: Greene (2), Johnson-Koulianos, RBJewel Hampton, TE Brandon Myers, TE Tony Moeaki and DB Amari Spievey.Spievey returned an interception 57 yards for a score in the final minute of thesecond quarter. The 57-yard interception return ties as the 12th-longest in schoohistory. SS Tyler Sash returned a theft 58 yards in the fourth quarter.

    Ohio State responded with an 11-yard touchdown run on itsnext possession to take a 17-10 advantage with 13 minutesremaining and increased the advantage to 14 points less thantwo minutes later. The Buckeyes scored their final pointsin regulation on a 49-yard run on the first play following aninterception.

    Iowa responded immediately, as Derrell Johnson-Koulianos

    returned the kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown. The KO returnis the first for an Iowa touchdown since the 2003 Orange Bowand ties as the fourth longest in school history.

    Iowa allowed just one first down on OSUs next drive andstayed alive when the Buckeyes missed a 47-yard field goaattempt. The Hawkeyes drove 70 yards in eight plays, gettinga 10-yard touchdown pass from Vandenberg to McNutt with2:42 left to play to tie the score at 24.     HAWKEYES RANK HIGH IN GRADUATION RATES

    The Iowa Hawkeyes were among the nations leaders in academicsuccess for college football teams that competed in bowl games fol-lowing the 2008 season.

    Iowa ranked 16th in graduation rate for its football student-athletes,according to data collected last fall by the NCAA among the 68college football teams that participated in the 34 college footballbowl games.

    Iowas graduation rate of 75% ranked third among teams that ap-peared in the 2008 final top 25 rankings.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

    A year ago, three Iowa players were named to the ESPN The Maga-zine/CoSIDA District Seven first all-academic team.

    Under Kirk Ferentz in the last 10 years, 13 Hawkeye players havecombined to earn academic all-America honors on 24 occasions.Four players, DL Aaron Kampman, OL Andy Lightfoot, LB MikeKlinkenborg and DB Adam Shada, were three-time honorees. Cur-rent junior Julian Vandervelde earned regional honors a year ago asa sophomore.

    Iowa, in 2006, was the only Division I program in the nation tohave three players earn first team academic all-America recognition.In addition, Iowa players have been honored 130 times over the past10 seasons with academic all-Big Ten recognition.

He had a 58-yardcompletion to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos in the third period and a 33-yardcompletion to McNutt on the third period touchdown drive to tie the game. Hissecond scoring pass covered 10 yards to McNutt with 2:42 remaining.

    WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos had a 99-yard KO return for a touchdown in thefourth period. The KO return for a score is the first for Iowa since C.J. Joneshad a 100-yard return vs. Southern Cal on the opening play of the 2003 OrangeBowl. DJK had three KO returns for 154 yards vs. OSU. The 99-yard returnties as the fourth longest in school history.     MINNESOTA STOPS SOUTH DAKOTA STATEMinnesota became bowl eligible with a 16-13 non-conference win over South

    Dakota State at Minneapolis. Eric Ellestad booted a 25-yard field goal with 2:22remaining to lift the Golden Gophers. Ellestad made three of four kicks in thegame. He gave Minnesota a 6-0 advantage in the first period with kicks of 23 and26 yards.

    South Dakota state took a 10-6 lead on an interception return, but Minnesotaresponded with a three-yard fumble recovery for a score, taking a 13-10 halftimeadvantage. South Dakota State tied the score on a 34-yard field goal with 8:27remaining. Minnesota recovered a fumble at the SDSU 11-yardline with 4:20 toplay to set up the game winning field goal.

    Minnesota QB Adam Weber completed 10-21 passes for 94 yards, but was sackedfour times. Kevin Whaley rushed 16 times for 56 yards.
